In this video, we delve into the psychological patterns that lead individuals who have been abused by narcissists to over-apologize. Narcissistic abuse is a form of emotional manipulation that can leave lasting scars on a person's self-esteem and behavior. We explore the tactics used by narcissists to erode their victims' sense of self-worth and the resulting tendency to excessively apologize for things that are not their fault. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for both survivors and those who support them in their journey to healing.
Throughout the video, we examine the mechanisms of gaslighting and blame-shifting, common strategies employed by narcissists to maintain control. Victims often internalize these manipulative tactics, leading them to believe they are always at fault. This constant state of self-doubt and guilt manifests in frequent apologies, even when unwarranted. We also discuss how over-apologizing serves as a coping mechanism to avoid conflict and potential punishment from the abuser, highlighting the complex interplay between fear and self-preservation.
Finally, we offer practical advice for breaking the cycle of over-apologizing and reclaiming one's voice. By recognizing the signs of narcissistic abuse and understanding its impact, survivors can begin to rebuild their self-confidence and establish healthier boundaries. We provide tips on how to practice self-compassion, assertiveness, and the importance of seeking professional help if needed. Join us as we shed light on this often overlooked aspect of narcissistic abuse and empower survivors to move forward with strength and resilience.

I always wondered why several people in my circle would swing - smiling to instant anger or rage. I always blamed myself. I apologise all the time now, trying to fix it. I didn't even know what narcissism was until a year ago. Now I understand these people seek control over others - and that is why they can mood swing in an instant. It's not my fault, nor I am I responsible for them. I used to think I was.

You might need therapy. I didn't realise how much I was doing it until I did. I would apologise for stuff I hadn't even done and wouldn't ever stand up for myself. I still have issues but it's getting there.

I had a client tell me I was the "sorriest" person he'd ever met- because I was always apologizing. It did make me realize that the behavior was a leftover from narcissistic abuse.

My partner is a relentless critic of me. I am now just observing, noticing, that no matter what I do,he finds something wrong ....not apologizing anymore. Just observing.

I had to apologize to my narc dad, by dad, though I did nothing to apologize for. It was demeaning for me. Keeping the peace(jumping at Dad's beck and call, he's never pleased) cost me my self-respect. I can't be bothered with him now!

Have you ever found yourself constantly apologizing, even when it's not your fault, after dealing with a narcissist? What steps have you taken, or can you take, to break this cycle and rebuild your confidence?

I apologize all the time because I have fear that someone is going to hurt me.

If we went shopping, he would always push in front of me to make me step back and then make a point of verbally telling me that I keep stepping back into an aisle (to avoid him) and into a shopping trolley; I kept saying sorry, and then he would say that I shouldn't keep saying sorry because it wasn't my fault, Which made me say it more often . We're not together now but I still say sorry.

Dad told me to apologize to him, I hadn't done anything to apologize for. He thought it would "humble" me. It is humiliating to/for me since he's the one abuing me, he's an asshole! He's "messed up"! I gave up on him!

Women are told to be nice, get along with people, it is pressure, to please someone else at my cost. Not worth it! Dad is my narcisisst and nitpicks at me. He's a pain in my ass. I went no-contact since Easter,. my life is improving each day without his bad influence!
