You asked why we are house hunting and today I'm going to tell you, but first, I thought I would show you some of the DIY painting projects I've been doing around our home and show you the two consignment furniture pieces that got delivered this week. I have already had a little fun decorating the rooms once they arrived.

We moved into our unicorn home 17 years ago. Even though it meant incurring a mortgage after being debt free. I have not regretted it for one second. It's a modest 1900 sq ft., but it's a one level house with a sunroom, fireplace, and private back yard that we can grow old in. Even though we were in our early 40's when we purchased it, my husband made the main bathroom wheelchair accessible. After watching my elderly parents refuse to sell their three level home, we wanted to be proactive about preparing for our elder years.

Living in Taxachusetts myself, I totally understand wanting to move to NH. My property taxes have risen 40% in the last five years. Getting harder to live here.

That’s interesting to know. I live in Texas, and I want so desperately to move to New England. Massachusetts was my first choice if ever we make that move. So sad to hear the taxes are so high. 🙁

God blessed you with spirt and energy .. remembering when I was your age, I'm 69, and really have not slowed down... life has happened ( passing of my husband 40 yrs) down sizing.. have a very blessed life... I create each and everyday... always keep moving forward...Your ideas inspire.. that is your gift❤

Wow Marcia mellow! Good for you! I’m 42 and I feel like I’ve slowed down significantly. 😳 Chasing after my two kids wears me out. But, I tell myself everyday to try to keep going. If I stop, I might lose what little energy I have left. Lol

I am from the white mountain region of NH. I was the last generation to live in our families farmhouse there that was built in 1855. Franconia Notch area is simply majestic! Can't wait to see your unicorn house.

My previous house had been on the market for two years when I bought it. It was a well built custom home with some strange design choices that we knew we could change. After seven years we put it on the market thinking we'd look around all summer but it sold in one day. We ended up buying another that needed fixing up but had to move in. NEXT house will be found, purchased, decorated and moved into before this one has a sign out front. My last six houses have all been one story. I feel your struggle and understand your urges. Sometimes when you talk you are saying my words.

I was surprised how our physical capabilities change every five years past age 50. We don't feel 'old' but our energy and stamina levels have diminished. I can't paint all day like I used to. I can't garden for hours anymore. At 68 we are considering leaving our 140 acre, 165 year old Carpenter Gothic farmhouse for another home that doesn't require my husband to spend 6 hours mowing the yards. Thank you for taking us along on your house hunting journey - or should I say Unicorn home journey. You'll know it when you see it!

Linda, the desk and cabinet are perfect. Although temporarily decorated, cabinet looks calming and inviting. Your painting reminds me of when I get on a roll. You start and just can’t stop.!!! Ahh, sparkling white woodwork. Nothing like it to just refresh!!! Sometimes fate draws you to a home. Our last two homes were basically found that way. So I hope you and your hubby do find that Unicorn home. In the meantime we will enjoy your projects in this home. Take care.

Do keep in mind that all that lovely acreage you desire requires care and money! As you get older, more and more of it must be hired out. I love your current house but understand your desire to move for various reasons. Happy house hunting!

12 years ago we bought a fixer upper converted farm steading. We have poured our hearts and bucket loads of money ;) into renovating it. We now have a beautiful on the level home with quality classic fixtures that won’t date, right down to the heritage style lever taps and door handles . We’ve just turned 60 and hope never to move again. It’s worth doing.

We just bought property in NH for that very reason of no taxes. We’ll be renting it out in winter while we live in our house in Italy. The house is 1200 years old but didn’t need too much work.

I agree about the country, I lived in Cleveland for over 35 yrs never thought I would ever come back to a small town. But I love being in NW Pennsylvania, redoing my parents downsized home they built in 1985.i built an inground pool, patio then redid my mom's rose flower bed. Love hearing birds stars at nights. Can't wait to see tbe butler's pantry. I have the same style

I am so interested in everything thing you do. I live in Maine and 6 yrs ago my husband and I bought my family farm that my great grandparents bought in 1919. The house was built in the 1840’s and we are loving restoring it. An older home certainly has it’s challenges and expenses. I look forward to seeing how you renovate your current home. Property taxes however can be shocking to some people and they continue to climb. A portion of ours are going up 12.5% this year.

I have just found your channel and am really enjoying it! I had to chuckle because we decided in December to buy a building lot on our same street to build another house. Reason? To make the move to mostly one floor living and do it while we have energy to handle. We built our current house 27 years ago when our boys were small.....it was ALMOST my unicorn house. I live in NH. Wish you were up here to help me with designing my new home. It's a bit overwhelming this time around.....LOL!

I do love your home now but definitely understand a need for one floor living if necessary. We all will hopefully be blessed with older age and along with that can come physical challenges. Anyway, I sure enjoy going along for the tours of possibilities !!! I've never been to New England, that is on the bucketlist. I have MANY ancestors that came from there , like back in the 1600 & 1700s .

Hi Linda...I live in Maine and just moved into my forever home. It’s been a long time coming. I left a house on a Maine lake to move elsewhere in Maine that was more suitable to me as I get older. Best of luck in your search for that unicorn home. It’s out there. You’ll find it!

Of course..it’s Richmond, NH...south of Keene...and let me tell you it’s in the boonies! We have a large stone house and a brook and about 30 acres...so we will have lots of gardens and chickens, too! The house does need some TLC and a new kitchen, but I did a total kitchen remodel several years ago when we lived in Bedford, NH, and it was just beautiful, so I’m up to the task. Getting back to nature is soothing for the soul, and just what we all need during these times. I was able to retire last year, so I’m so excited to have plenty of time for projects 🌺

My family is deep New England, I was actually born in CT but have lived in the south for 26 yrs. we still go up often bc all of our family is New England. I recently learned I descend from 2 men on the Mayflower both Brewster and Bradford are my 10 XP’s grandfathers also I am related to one of the founders of Hartford Ct by the last name Butler, I also descend from the Waterman family so very deepNew England.

Many of my friends have moved from Massachusetts to New Hampshire because there is no income tax including no tax on social security and pensions. No sales tax, too. However, NH has some of the highest property taxes in the U.S. Good time to test the real estate market in your neighborhood, though, since remote working families fleeing cities have driven up the prices.

You were wondering about built ins or free standing for your butlers pantry. Well seeing you new Plantation cabinet I think free standing as you can take to your new house. Sob! The cabinet is so versatile for books or linen. The new desk looks wonderful. Love that it doesn't go down to the floor. Before you go sob ! A question, or two. Do you have a clothes washer/dryer in your kitchen or a separate utility room. How far up the kitchen wall did you take your tiles. Also how wide and long is the kitchen. We use metres here in Spain but I have a special dispensation from the Pope to work in feet and inches still. Would love if you could tell us. Love the lavender coloured ribbon tied round the lavender. So many lovely touches as you always do. So many to mention or this comment would turn into a novel. Whoever buys will love your home and be so lucky. Thank you Linda.

Wow thank you Marilyn! And the fact you noticed the lavender colored ribbon!!!! Washer dryer is in our basement and shown on today's video I took the tiles all the way up behind the stove and no tiles on other walls. I would have to measure our kitchen, it's been awhile, but it is about 26' x 20 or so.

Just love your husband’s desk 💝. Question on the desk lamps with the black shades. do they have a gold interior which would then reflect the light ? Is the light dim as a result of the dark shade ? You did a beautiful job painting! The stair came out fabulous! Now this will sound perhaps a bit ridiculous but I have a problem and I’m asking for suggestions. Many places in my place need caulking. I noticed that caulking gun in your hands! I have tried to use a gun like thatZ I have tried to use squeeze tubes. I have purchased special tools to clean up when I spread too much caulk. Is caulking really an acquired skill because I’m failing and I love to do things around my place! I can clean and prep and area with the pros but my hands lack the strength and agility to caulk properly.
