Why You Should GIVE UP HOPE 

¨If you´re going to be hopeless be truly hopeless, give up altogether.." Sometimes unreasonable hope can be a heavy burden. Amazing.

My Aunt , used to say " Those who live by Hope -Die in despair." Honestly ,it talso ties into the Good Luck B.S.

This. This is why I always despise when people say “we must continue to have hope”. We can’t wish for these things, we have to take action ourselves, and that’s the second most powerful thing one can do. The most powerful thing one can do is shed hope altogether and take initiative to be their own future.

Faith and hope aren't the same to me. Faith means to trust. Hope means to wish. One is tao. One is ego.

Your argument is rational and although I find evidence in my experience for your conclusions, I struggle to fully embrace the position of giving up hope in every instance. I worked in health care for 32 years and have witnessed the positive effects of hope relative to recovery. We are both rational and emotive and there are benefits of each. It seems dangerous and irresponsible to recommend giving up hope. Prof. Robert Sapolsky of Stanford said in a lecture on human nature that our best moral decisions are dependent on our ability to balance our emotions and reasoning abilities.

Hope was a powerful force in my life, but it had to pass soon. I was deeply depressed and even addicted to alcohol until one and a half years ago. I was not hopeless, rather I deeply believed that everything is in vain. Then people came into my life and things happened that gave me hope. It began to raise the shadows and erradicate my belief in the inevitable failure of all. I had hope that life without alcohol could be managable, and that possibly not everything is in vain. But soon after that, I found I had to take the next step, because hope woldn't carry me far. I ritually burned hope, emptying space for faith. I came to believe that I can change my life for the better and actually become happy. In the end, I am the happiest when my faith is even transcended by knowing. Knowing that by remaining peaceful, the Universe will always sort out itself towards balance, and that I will be happy with however things might unfold.

Only a truly enlightened person can give up complete hope. But then there is no person left to give up hope. Hopeless is also a process of detachment with ego. You say that rather than hoping, try to change the outcome. But the outcome is never in your hands. Understanding this leads to hopelessness which is a painful transition in the spiritual journey. Because a person will only do anything only when he hopes. Even if somebody tries to change his or her situation, they are hoping that their action will lead to favorable result.

Spot on. I despise hope because it’s empty. It’s right there with the line of, don’t worry it will all be alright. I can’t get people to reality where we could agree and effect change.

Unless you're not equipped to action your hopes but someone else can on your behalf. Nothing wrong with those at rock bottom, incapable of action, hoping that someone might take action out of love and through the very existence of that potential, providing hope for the hopeless

I had a friend that use to quote, Zechariah 9: 12, "Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope...", all the time, as though hope were a good thing. I never believed this quote to mean we are to wallow in hope as it refers to us as "prisoners of hope". You summed it up perfectly again. You are helping me tremendously!

I feel just the same! But I thought I was 'wrong' for feeling like that, especially now with all that 'The Secret' and 'our thoughts create our reality' stuff (where you are supposed to be expecting things to happen) that makes us feel guilty about anything that goes wrong in our lives. When in reality, I think the only one who 'creates our reality' is source/consciousness who ultimately is the only one who has free will.

hope for something, like love in a relationship has held me back in alot, its also caused more problems then correct. all your points are valid and thank your for uploading these videos. i just found ya but they are helping. as i believe i went through the dark night of the soul. im a bit confused about it all, like can this last over 3 years? is there a certain time line or is everyone different? but 5 years later im starting to see happiness and solitude in myself. the wrongings of the world play a deep part on my suffering, ive dealth with suicidal thoughts when i hit this depression when the family i was creating just upped and left on me (because i was becoming depressed with life) jobs, relationships, future goals all seem pointless and meaningless. as if im slaving away for what? material possessions? having these possessions to impress others? people look at me and see i choose not to drive. and i get nothing but shaming language because of it. people define me as a man by what i have and not who i am. also subbed

I grew up in a town called Hopewell. Acceptance would be a better name.

Your definition of hope differs from mine. I believe that hope is what often keeps us going in life, especially when it gets difficult. It provides people with optimism and motivation. It doesn’t mean we become unrealistic. We know that when things don’t turn out exactly as hoped for, we will adjust, and our hope returns, adjusted for the next chapter in our life. People who are deeply depressed or worse usually state they’ve lost all hope.

Realize that most of the times the hope we have is that we will take action, instead of taking action. As he said, that action is not granted and most of the times when the time we hoped that we would take action arrives, we again hope again instead of doing something. I beg to differ. Hope is what gives us the determination to do what we want to achieve with our lives. Hope gives us purpose, meaning, a will to live. Giving up on it will only make things worse. Things won't ever be perfect, but that doesn't mean give up and let go.

Yes. You had to do inner work and do aciton but not so force doing action to change outer world. It's not guaranteed outcomes and when I let go and stop doing action things have changed miraculously. For example my dream house came to me.

I agree with this mostly, but hope is very useful when you are unable to do anything personally to change your circumstances, because it can keep you alive until those circumstances either change by themselves or are changed by other people. The extreme example is the Nazi concentration camps... those who had hope had more chance of staying alive until they were liberated, but those who gave up all hope were more likely to die.

I really need help.. I'm hoping for something that could save my journey which is important for my life..i have been lying about my life to everyone and living with anxiety and depressing life..i can't find any sign of the key to my journey but all my brain screaming is fail and deniable easy victory..and i can't accept my failure.. I very much agree. this is something that ive come to realize in the past year and a half. Hope keeps you stagnant. But , if i were to say anything good about HOPE , I would say that if it comes to life and death , if you are in some terrible circumstance that cradles you between life and death then i would say that that's where hope surely belongs. Because if you can just hold on a little longer and you are asking for or waiting for help than that might be the difference between LIFE AND DEATH.
