There’s a movie that recently came out call Blood, that was exactly this similar premise.

FUN FACT: In the novel and the original Swedish film the character Eli is not really a girl. Among the details revealed is that Eli is a boy named Elias who was castrated when he was turned into a vampire over 200 years ago. He dresses in female clothing and is perceived by outsiders as a young girl..... I haven't seen the Showtime series yet so I don't know how different it is from the movies and the novel.

Y’all kids don’t know about the original. Call me old that movie had something that can never be recreated. Not to throw dirt on this series or the American remake (which was actually very good). I will say for a new generation this is a good adaptation for those not familiar with the book or original

I really like the original Swedish film. It's truly unsettling. I just don't like Chloë Grace Moretz and that's why I haven't seen the American remake. Seriously she was in this and Carrie...like...go away. Might give the series a shot.

I absolutely loved the Swedish film. Hated the American remake. And the TV series... was actually a good surprise! Don't know how season 2 will proceed!

I like the series so far. The acting is stellar across the board (especially the daughter and father), but I'm not sold on Isaiha. No offense to the young actor, but they missed the mark on casting him for the role. To be honest, I would have found it a bit more intriguing had they casted a young female, since they are not going by the original source material. At any rate, I'm going to continue watching!!

Let Me In is probably one of my top ten movies, I actually slightly prefer it over the Swedish version. I've been a bit reluctant to watch this one because of the changes in the story, but I may have to check it out. It does seem interesting.

I’m sure there are people out there who will disagree with my points to this topic and that’s perfectly fine………… As a horror fan I have never been really bothered or even interested in vampire films it just didn’t really appeal to me until the year 2008. titled (LET THE RIGHT ONE IN) which is as you know a Swedish movie from 2008. As mentioned I don’t like vampire movies as such but I gave this film a chance, and was I in for a surprise. I was absolutely taken back by how good this film was !! It’s so haunting and so delicately made and the two children were outstanding the performances were second to none. I can’t praise them and the cast enough. Also the author John Lindqvist who help make this gem of a movie come to life. This movie scored 98% with rotten tomatoes and rightfully so……… In 2010 you have an American remake titled ( LET ME IN) I’m not sure why we needed a remake a few years later ? This film was poor and not even close to the original, also with a poor review and acting to go with it. Just as you think it cannot get any worse we now have a series which I don’t think is a good idea at all. I mean how many times do film makers want to keep copying an original film?? If that wasn’t enough they have even taken the title from the original film which i think is wrong in every way. the Swedish 2008 movie is something quite special and will always remain special no matter how many times filmmakers try to take from it ……..

Literally one of the best series!! Can’t believe they cancelled season 2! 🤦🏻‍♂️ some other shows that are just awful have like 6 seasons ore more!!

Alternatively, here’s why you shouldn’t watch this series: it tosses out the darkest and most interesting aspects of the source material, the Author, John Lindqvist, never supported this being made and is not being compensated for it even though they’re using his title.

Let Me In might be the remake but it's the better of the two. The cinematography being the main highlight.

I thought it was good but at first but they couldn't resist dragging it out. After two episodes where the plot didn't move on at all I gave up. I can see it going into a second season and the father still hasn't met the doctor.

This show was terrible. I can say that since I watched it. Waste of time. Don’t bother.

Anytime a movie that nails the subject matter gets made into a show, we have to ask the question: what can it bring that the original piece didn't? There is an awesome RU-vid review comparing the original Swedish film to the Americanized Chloe Morentz replicant (if I can find it I'll reply with the link), and the reviewer makes a very compelling case of pwhy the Swedish version is much better, based on the d⁴ifferences in character traits and motivations, e.g. an underlying psychopathy in the boy she is recruiting to be her murdering caregiver. Typical or recent times, when I see a show get made from a movie intellectual property, it just becomes a bloated excuse for a bunch of woke corporate shills to sit in a writing room and get rid of any aspect of the original that made it unique or edgy or interesting, insert a bunch of arbitrary forced diversity and token LBGTQ xtrs or pairs, write a few uninspired B and C plotlines to fill up the extra time... and boom, like Watchmen, Resident Evil, interview with a vampire, Rings of power, Snowpiercer, etc... a compromising, pandering mediocre show now exists to leach off of a ready-made fan base. I didn't see anything in the first episode to make me believe that let the right one in was any different. The show writers obviously didn't understand the movie, as they made the girl literally the man's daughter. That defeats the entire twist that the man is an aged out version of the boy that is being drawn in. That the girl has been that young age for "a very long time" ...long enough to outlive several caregivers. So I am simply not impressed by a show that exists primarily just to replace the "white version" with a checkboxed version. It is kind of sad we live in a time when diversity means everything looks homogenously heterogenous. that politics are more important than the story itself, and every thing has to look like modern 'merica. These expanded series are so generic and mediocre and pandering. I'd take the original movie any day.
