Random thought, but you often hear in the MLM horror stories that Hannah Alonzo reads, once someone is out of the MLM, they not only feel embarrassed but equally sad for the friendships they lost. Wishing they could reach back out and mend the bridges. If your former friend is no longer in it she may want to reconnect but feels too embarrassed to reach out first.

My best friend got into this and was like ‘hey I’m selling some makeup and you’re really good at it, I’ve told my makeup buddies about you and they really wanna see what you come up with’ so I purchased this bundle thing and tried some stuff, did some looks and next thing I know my weekly FaceTime with my friend (this was during covid) I was in a call with her ‘mentor’ I had a full time job, I was not up for selling and marketing my ‘own business’ (as they put it). The moment I declined I was slandered, my best friend was told I was horrible and abusive to them and I ended up losing her to the MLM. The irony of it all was they still used my makeup photos to advertise their products! Absolute cheek!

The thing I hate most about MLMs isn't their crappy products, it's the way they prey on people like stay at home mums who need an income and a job they can fit around the needs of their family. Rather than making any money they alienate friends and family by desperately pushing overpriced crap onto them and making them buy out of guilt and most of the time they end up out of pocket anyway. If we had a decent social set up where childcare was more affordable, bosses were more flexible with working hours and wfh was more accessable, these MLM companies would have less victims. Two single mums I know both tried Younique and both ended up with less money than when they started. I myself tried selling Avon decades ago when my firstborn was a baby, it took me 3 weeks of traipsing the streets with a baby strapped to my chest delivering and collecting catologues to earn £9.

I am old enough to remember my mother using cake mascara! Tube mascara was invented before I started using makeup in my mid teens. IIRC most of the makeup brands tried out fiber mascara in the mid to late 70s or maybe early 80s and discontinued them. Those fiber mascaras were very clumpy, the fiber did not align with the real lashes and the fiber flaked off onto your cheeks. There is a reason none of the quality makeup companies do fiber mascara these days as far as I know! It's just not a good idea
@LunarEleven
@LunarEleven 5 месяцев назад
Fiber mascara has always disappointed me ("tubing" mascara is where it's at these days, I get one from Miss A for $1.55 that I love!) I do remember when all the brands released fiber mascara in the early aughts. I kept buying different ones because I thought, if they all are doing it, it must be an innovation and I'm just getting the wrong ones... But no, they are all chunky and gross. So it is surprising to hear that it was a trend in the 70s/80s, why bring it back if it's still bad?! It's a stupid concept. Who cares if your lashes are longer and thicker if they are lumpy and flaking everywhere?

It’s BS and the people have to pay for their travel there and meet all kinds of qualifications to attend. Their FB page will share stories all the time of victims they’ve “helped”. I’m not a makeup artist and a no makeup girl, but I can tell just by seeing their makeup on people is just looks bad. Also in my opinion, a good sign that makeup is done right is when it does look realistic for every day use. Theirs doesn’t , I can tell it looks like something you would wear as part of a complete Halloween costume look, but not for everyday use.

Ugh so embarrassed to have sold this years ago. I didn't even know what an mlm was but once I found out and realized my mistake I ran. It was such a toxic environment the actual quality of the makeup wasn't even the worst of it. Those women are horrible people. So catty, jealous and total liars. I hate to see they are still going, not only them all mlms. It was definitely interesting seeing things from the "inside" however. Like a train wreck you keep watching 😂

@@dollmob1206catty, petty & (pathological) liars don't just talk - they bully others, demanding weaker members' blind loyalty. Contradictions of what they say & do occurs consistently. So when members question the flaws, catty liars usually shamed them for questioning the "great leadership" decisions + threatened them in some way, usually expulsion from the company, stripping benefits off, repossession of your gifts awarded to you from top directors before, or rank demotion. Cultish leaders make you feel guilty + try brainwashing you to think you owe them complete submission, after they have showered all their (conditional) "love" unto you.

@@dollmob1206 well I found reddit to start with lol the anti-mlm sub and one making fun of younique specifically. Then there were some really hateful comments from people who were against mlms. Which didn't say a lot for the anti-mlm cause, if you want to educate people on something usually attacking them and being cruel isn't the best way to go about it but I'm smart enough to realize there had to be a reason strangers were so against a makeup company that they would basically bully people online over it. It's wild. I hate mlms as well but I would not go about telling others the way I was told.

I had a friend who tried to rope me into being a rep. I tried several of their products, and the foundation "match" they told me would be for my Caucasian skin tone made me look like I had just gone to a really dodgy place for a spray tan! Yikes! I also tried their eyeshadow and they had no color payoff. Their mascara smeared throughout the day. Needless to say, I did not become a rep. I didn't even realize they were an MLM at that time, so thank goodness I didn't do it! Thanks for putting great info out there Robert! Your videos simply make my day!!

About a decade ago, my best friend tried to talk me into selling Younique due to her Mom pushing it onto her and then onto me as I’m a makeup artist. Luckily, I already knew better and firmly declined, but I decided to try their 3D mascara. I fully admit I LOVED it at the time! Had no issue with the fibers and my lashes looked full and great, no dry clumpy spider lashes and it was easy to remove. When I purchased it again months later, they had changed the formula, claiming “new and improved” and it was the opposite of that. It was terrible and I was so bummed out! It was the only mlm product I had ever tried that I originally loved so much that I bought it again and they went and made it horrible. I used the new formula 2-3 times before trashing it. I told my best friend I was done with using any Younique products and she quickly stopping trying to sell it herself not long after that.

I fortunately never fell for the younique mess, but an MLM still managed to get me. I was gifted whatever that color stay lipstick was that smelled like turpentine and felt like it turned your lips into plastic. (Lipsense I think?) I used it exactly once and the smell NEVER WENT AWAY. Then, when k tried to get it off my lips I couldn’t. I ended up having to scrape my lips raw to get it off. Even oil wouldn’t budge it 😭

I had “friends “ who pressured everyone into buying these products so I purchased quite a few and none really impressed me . The foundation broke me out and separated pretty quickly in the bottle and the “friend “ who shade matched me did a horrible job so what a waste of money .. mascara fibers were every where on my face and the “friends “ never spoke to me again when I didn’t give a glowing review of their makeup .. so yeah I agree with this , my experience was not a great one and costly at that !

My bff's mom back in 2016-17 sold Younique. The prices for their products were INSANE. My bff never pushed anything on me hard, but she did try to get me to try this mascara. Girl, no. My eyes are super sensitive anyway and I HATED that entire "fiber lash" trend. She stopped using the mascara soon after anyway because the fibers always got in her eyes and it just took so long to do.

I spent around 200, foundation, 3D mascara/gel, eyeshadow, makeup bag. The eyeshadow was ok, the fibers were flaking off, foundation wasn't good for my conbo kit. I just felt bad for my cousin so I bought it. Last mlm I bought from. Never again lol.

I was a rep for this brand for 2 years. I felt like you do, that if I'm selling makeup, I should actually know about makeup and be open to criticism or critique. It was weird to me that there were no trainings from "uplines" about application, so I started researching and learning on my own. What bothered me the most, and why I got it pretty fast after being roped in, was that their production couldn't keep up with how frequently they introduced products. So you'd get these products that people actually liked, but then by the time your customers would want to reorder, the product was discontinued. I was like this is not sustainable and i wonder how they're still in business. This was back when they were pretty new.

My friend used to sell younique I thought I was being a good friend by buying from her (this was before I discovered Chelsea, Savannah, Erin, JJ and friends). I brought their splurge pots (cream eyeshadow)and they were so expensive for mediocre products they dried up in a month then my friend then convinced me to buy a younique rose water to freshen up the eye shadow that was really expensive as well when rose water is £2 in boots. I'm glad people are covering yonique because it's big in UK and I don't think it gets as much coverage as the likes of monat etc.

I was actually a Younique rep for a few years in college. I made like $100/year, maybe. I didn’t ever ask anyone to “join my team”. I just posted videos of me using it in a private fb group and sold enough to support my own habit. I honestly loved their liquid foundation from the early days and the cream eyeshadows and a couple other things I liked. The products I didn’t like, I just didn’t promote, including the 2 step fiber mascara, the regular one wasn’t bad. But they discontinued all the stuff I liked and I left. Then I heard about all the behind the scenes drama that happened shortly after I left and I’m glad I got out when I did.
