In this video we resurrect a 1959 Meteor that was left for dead in the bush. To support this channel please checkout www.lgspeedkustom.com/shop Thanks for watching
Hey Lee, love the video, my mom bought my dad a 59 Meteor new for his birthday. We lived in Toronto at the time. We had it for 12 yrs then my parents traded it in for a 65 breezeway. I wished they had given the car to me, i loved that car even tho i was only 11. Im 65 now and still love the car now. Our car was a 2 door, white roof and side panels, the body was black. And 6 cyl.
More old Canadian models please! As an Aussie and fan of '50s cars I've always been a fan of the special Canada-only versions. We hardly ever get to see any of them and quite a few of them are very cool.
Great video, I just let my 59 ford custom 300 go last year it was almost identical to yours , color , paint, engine, doors, it was from Cleveland, Ohio, , thanks for posting this video, regards. Tom😊
It's just a rebaged FORD with different trim. MERCURY'S were better so the Canadians also rebaged them as monarchs. FORD is meteors. Same car different trim. Not a super rare car.
Thanks for sharing all your projects with us Lee... Your channel is great for us gear heads thats still love the old stuff. And, hopefully help influence the younger crowd. Also i live in WV and i dont know very much about Canada. I didn't know anything about meteors or monarchs... really good video. I liked this video a lot. I think your videos keep getting better and better. Definitely lookin' forward to the next
Remember when I was five going with dad to the Ford dealership and picking up a new 59 black and white Ford Fairlane . The next day while sitting and eating at a drive in we were hit by a 55 & 57 Chevy while they were racing. Next day we had another car just like it.
Nice '59! It was not a step higher than Ford. Meteor was a lower priced car that Mercury dealers could sell, while Monarch was a higher priced car that Ford dealers could sell, so the market could be covered by either dealer. Unique to Canada The valve cover seems to indicate a later 223; '59 had two studs coming thru the top of the valve cover, iirc. To add to the confusion, in '61 Canadian Meteors were different from U.S. '61 Mercury Meteor 600, and Meteor 800. These were one year only base models (including offering a 6) to the Mercury line. Further confusion; '62-3 Meteors were Fairlane based intermediates in both markets. '64 saw the return of the full size Meteor in Canada.
I have a '59 Ford Custom 300 4 door with the 223-6 except mine has an automatic. The non-power steering on it is a bear but you didn't seem to have a problem with yours. A tip for others with '59 Fords or Meteors who might read this: the correct part number for the stock master cylinder on a '59 Ford is Raybestos MC23222, it is NOT MC18000. I know from personal experience. Speaking of master cylinders I like that you converted the Meteor to a dual master cylinder but I wish you had included the conversion in the video. I would have liked to see how you did it.
I did cover the master cylinder install starting at the 52 minute mark. There isn’t really anything special about it, it bolts right on using the original studs and brake pedal push rod.
Compare a 1959 body style to the meteor and it's the same inside and out except the grill, meteor was made for Canada they made a galaxies ,Fairlane, custom, Ford made the car or otherwise it would be design copyright violation, compare the Ford to the meteor,
Never heard of a Meteor, Kind of figured it may have been Canadian, It's almost identical to the 1959 Ford Fairlane I used to have!, I bought a parts Car that had that 223 with a Fordomatic that still ran!, My Fairlane got a 390 with a C6 from a 1976 F100, Kinda wish I still had my ole Fairlane!, Sold it back in 2016 after 23 Yrs of having it!
..hi Lee....the Meteor is kinda cool, but I think with everything on your plate and with the family expanding, you are doing the right thing by moving it along......it did make for a nice 'will it run'.........
Super cool meteor my uncle had one when I was a kid super cool man I like those thanks to the video keeps me inspired kids nowadays don't even know what that is
I don’t think I would of ever thought of working on a car on a trailer. But it’s a good thing if you had rain you could back her in the shop and then do the job and park her back up outside. I think somebody said before on a previous vid that you are lucky that nobody puts there sticky fingers on your stuff. Your not going to let a youngster come and work on it then? All the best Tim.
Lee.....A thought about your current shirt offerings. Please consider printing a small classic LG logo on the front upper corner then a full/medium size in back. I love Tees but hate being a billboard in front. I believe it would sell well if not better than the norm you find. See ya. BOXCAR
Beautiful car much better shape then the 57 super 88 hardtop I’m restoring I actually almost got a fairlane 500 galaxie instead but they wanted a little too much for me
Great car and a good buy Lee, even has a 'hot rod" number plate too. First letter G last 2 letters OW . Rock Auto are great, I have even used them down here in NZ.
Ford meteor it was in production 1949 through 1976 it retired two years 1962 and 1963 it returned back and ended in 1976 that's a great find very good condition for the price unbelievable those are pretty rare I'm from the Midwest in Wisconsin and I've never seen one💯👍🏼
I like this meteor! It’s got great charm. I don’t care that it’s got two to many doors and is a runty 88 hp six popper with manual steering and manual brakes. It’s got great colors, the mint metallic green and soft white color. The way the lower trim piece on the rear fenders is what fixes the awkward proportions of this body. I get why you want to move it on. But I am a bit disappointed we won’t be seeing more of this car. I can also see that this is not a car that fits into your preferences for project cars after seeing what else is in the background in your video. This would make a good moseying around town car cruising in the 35 to 55 mph range. This car does not have the suspension, brakes or hp for anything more than that. It would be a perfect car to put an overdrive in to give it a little longer legs for on the highway driving. I myself would do a partial repaint of the top sides in those single stage original colors because where I live, patina rust turns into cancer rust pretty quick. Oh, I would also look for a 1959 Ford wheel so that last hubcap would fit. I hope the missing door panel turns up. 👍
Love the 1949 /1951 Monarch range. I think what causes alot of confusion is the cars run ford engines. Sounds like you had some great adventures with your Dad
Lee; my shed and my garage are so far apart, that I get 2 of each, when buying tools, cos walking is too much like exercise at my age. [I feel your pain.]
I’m happy you turned down my offer on it lol Yes like you I have other projects more deserving of my attention. Great video showing how ones abandoned project can be someone else’s driver for some time effort and a few dollars. Others need to take note how you are using RockAuto to get the part numbers but you’re buying the parts from a local parts store. Bumper to Bumper are franchises owned by locals and employing people in your community and that is important and we should all be following this example.
And it’s usually cheaper buying from my local parts store once you factor shipping in. Also if the part is wrong, swapping it out for the correct one is much easier
@@LGKustoms especially here in Canada we get killed on shipping and being able to exchange for a correct part is key too. Plus trips to the parts store are fun.
I’m still wondering what you ended up doing to stop the leaks in the fuel pump?? Also, if that had been a two door I’d bet it wouldn’t be going down the road.
The 59 mercury that have is very much a 59 ford in body sheet metal and a 59 Ford 2 door could be used to turn it to a 2 door but a rusty station wagon could donate its top and make it a 4 d wagon. DD speed shop went to a salvage yard in south Georgia or north Florida and a 59 wagon was there for sale very rusty floor but good top
Lee the little round sight things that are on you fenders Meteor thing or they an add on ( I have them on my 56 ford custom line and one is broken and I’m trying to find one (John from I know a guy garage)
