this old kubota L225 has been sitting for a long time with some parts removed, Jason, ( 5150mxwv ) youtuber, found this one for us, as far as we know its been sitting for 10 years due to unknown reasons. I bought it as is so lets get it on the trailer and drag it back to the shop. does it run? is it broken? is it junk? lets find out.

There is something about Mustie's videos that is good for a man's soul. We live in a world that is falling apart. Where we throw away four year old cellphones and computers. Seven year old TVs and washing machines. Ten year old cars. There is something fundamentally wrong with this. Something not just unsustainable and wasteful, but morally and metaphysically disturbed. These videos restore my faith in the fundamental balance of the universe. The fact that a man can, with the help of a friend, with a few tools, some odd spare parts and common chemicals, plus a bountiful supply of practical knowledge and experience - plus a good chunk of good humour - restore almost any piece of equipment to productive, useful life. The work of the engineers and fabricators of that Kubota won't be consigned to the scrap pile. That with a little love, attention, and skill that machine will go on to provide many years of productive life. That the owners of the property it came from will be able to make the most of it, without an abandoned and rusting machine cluttering it up. Thanks, Mustie, for your videos. And thanks for your lessons. Lessons I use nearly every day.

It never ceases to amaze me how many of these old, long neglected engines come back to life with just a little coaxing. My neighbor has a similar vintage 4wd kubota. I think it's a B7100. He keeps adding more and more capabilities as time goes by. Pretty handy little tractor.

The B7100 is a fantastic little Kubota. That was the first model my family ever bought. After some time we felt it was just too small for our needs, but dang it was so dependable. Ended up with an L3010. I’ve went on to get my own L4760 for my own place now, but I still have my dads L3010 that I keep just for me, it reminds me of him, although the first tractor he had when I was born in 73 was an IH Cub. Wish I still had that as well.

The decompression system is to aid in starting. That's what the lever is on the valve cover along with the 3 plates bolted to the top. I was taught about decompression systems when I had to help start a 50s diesel engine with the handle during my farm holidays as a teen. The battery was pretty flat, just enough juice for the glowplug (singular) so I sat in the driver's seat, glowed the engine, the farmer cranked the handle for his dear life and when the engine was up to speed, I flipped the decompression lever.

A lesson I learned long ago about working on diesel engines; always have a way to block the air intake just in case the engine starts to run away. Just shutting off the fuel is not always effective. In my case it was an EMD 567 locomotive diesel...

@@kameljoe21 V16 It hadn't been in service for a couple of years and we were bringing it back to life (nearly killed it in the process). It took two sets of batteries to finally get it to start and when it finally did the injector rack hung up. The overspeed trip had been "neutralized," which was not apparent just from visual inspection. Blocking the intake caused it to immediately stop, of course. After we got it all sorted it ran fine and ran for many years afterwards. If it had had a turbocharger instead of two roots blowers it probably would have been fatal.
@kameljoe21
@kameljoe21 2 года назад
@@BruceBoschek damn that is one huge engine. Run away diesels are rare yet there is a video that Whistlindiesel did a while back where he forced one of his trucks to run away. Though the size of that engine vs a locomotive v16 is the size of the piston or close to it. Though its exciting to see what it does. The fact that he did so much damage just goes to show that diesels can take a beating when its called for.

In PA here. where I am the water collects and floods out the area often, we had a vicious storm rip through highways had like 1-2 inches of water within minutes of the rain falling I was out in it and I couldn’t believe how quickly the highway flooded! My properly mostly spared apart from the ATV trails. main one that’s connecting all properties together was damaged and slow process to fix as part of it fell away on side of the hill and another part is underwater still or just mud but if not. Other smaller trail on my property I already fixed and made into a bypass route for people going through. But yea the storms were savage!
