I was thinking the same thing, but the other way around. Shimano cassette with a sram axs derailleur. I’ve been waiting for shimano to come out with a wireless drivetrain since forever, but if the axs works and still have that smooth shifting between the gears from the cassette and hyper glide chain. Might be the next best thing
I’m currently running a XTR cassette and mechanical XX1 50t rear derailleur on my XC bike and it works out pretty nicely. And I also found if you do the opposite like in the video Shimano chains are pretty crunchy on SRAM cassettes so always run a SRAM chain with a SRAM cassette, or something like a KMC would also work. But with Shimano cassettes it doesn’t matter what brand chain you run.
I'm waiting for this trp a12 coming out but taking so long it's stressful, I'm looking to see if the sram GX works with the XT cassette 10-52t shadow plus and hyperglide chain is what my new emtb came with there
@@s14tat if you see a video of the whole drivetrain the shifting looks allot smoother in my opinion and usually from my experience the shifts are quiter (not by allot tho)
@@papasouzas9703 I can't tell. First you said it's awful, now you said it could be a little quieter. Drivetrain is something that needs to be ridden to know for sure if it's adjusted right unless it's blatantly off where you can tell on video. As of right now, everything checks out good until I can feel how the effort feels on the shifter whether the tension increases.
And SRAM wants you to buy a whole new derailleur for that extra teeth, lol. The shifting itself may need a little adjustment though, when going from 42 to 52 you can hear a little crunch, not sure if it's B gap, barrel adjustment of slightly longer chain.
yeah it shift on a stand, but it doesn't shift very well under actual use in my opinion. And you are missing out on the best feature of any MTB drivetrain, HG+.
I found this very helpful as to my GX RD clutch features is worn out for just 3 months from brand new. Thank you for making this vids, helps me a lot. any long term review tho?
Does that Sram cassette only use Sram XD Hub? Is the Shimano XT derailleur an sgs long cage? Which chain is that? And how many teeth you running on the chainring? Thanks!
Interesting! As a newbie to bike mechanics, I am aware that the two companies often don’t mesh their components and function. That much I get, but is there a cost point advantage? What would be helpful to know here for someone who’s new to wrenching on bikes? Thank you for your patience.
Generally if you want better performance for your money you go shimano, spoken as somebody who uses sram. They do have different feels though and that’ll be a personal thing that you have to figure out for yourself
Sorry I’m replying to old message but to me it’s more about an availability thing. I originally have SX components but slowly am upgrading parts so I added a Shimano rear mech and shifter and it feels great and was relatively inexpensive. Considering sticking with Eagle cassette when that’s worn so this is nice to see
How did you adjust the b gap? How much space is there? Can you give me a suggestion on what to do? I have a garbaruk cassette 10-52.. my problem is it would not shift back to the 10t cog? What should i do?
I mix-matched e-13 XD freehub type 9-50t cassette with xt m8100 groupset, shifting to larger cog is flawless, but when shift back to smaller cog 1 at a time not that smooth as shift up to higher tooth range...
Works... I have the old GX 12sp and does just fine with a 10-52 (SRAM would try and have you believe otherwise). Probably new GX would shift marginally smoother on the largest cog, it clearly is a bit of jump. But it does it.
@MTB Savant I'm thinking changing my GX derailleur for a better and cheaper XT one. I have a 10/50 cassette and GX chain. Is it a gooh idea? Should a change to a shimano chain also?
The xt derailleur will work just fine with your gx shifter, chain and cassette. Been riding mismatched 12 speed components for a while. The gain with a full shimano setup is marginal.
Guess it needs b screw adjustment because of that larger gap between 52 and 42. Shimano has 51 and 45, huge difference. I wonder what pulley offset SRAM uses. Shimano is 43mm.
I have a slx m7100 rd+shifter, nx eagle cassette and crankset and gx eagle chain and sometimes my chain gets caught on the next gear causing it to slip which causes a jerking sensation when i pedal. Is there a way to fix this so I can get that same smooth feel as in this video? Or should i get other shimano components like the chain or crankset? Thanks
@@mariogwapusahay4253 will do. I found a problem in my crankset, I got the non-boost 6mm offset version. Will buy a boost compatible chainring, then find xt jockey wheels. It's difficult to source out parts here in my country but I will try your suggestion. Thanks sir.
Mate - I have 50t rear and the new M8100 rear Dee. Can't seem to shift good. Would you know? Just curious. My LBS suspects that it's the cassette due to lacking of that 1 extra tooth which the XT now has (51t)
bro, that makes no sense, do u have mixed shifter and derailleur? Some seem to say it works with sram shifter and shimano derailleur (or the other way round) but maybe matching both would be better
@@SuperGee75 what cassette do you have, SRAM NX 11-50? It may be the shift gates, I have a SunRace 11-50T cassette and a Shimano M7100 rear derailleur and it shifts fine, although the B gap needs to be slightly lower than the 51T mark on the derailleur, which makes sense since it lacks one extra teeth.
@@SuperGee75 11-50T should work just fine, you just need to adjust and B screw a little lower. I even used it with a 1x11 drivetrain and worked fine ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TuT6ZBHEyro.html
how do you find the shifting compared to a normal all sram drivetrain? I have NX eagle and I'm thinking of switching to shimano XT when this inevitably craps itself
