Please read for advice! The mama is traumatized and she neds to be handled with the with the greatest caution. It's great that you put the crate back in for her to have a safe space, the big open area is too stressful for her. When dealing with her I would recommend to ignore her, don't make eye contact (can be very scary and threatening), don't force interaction. Please try to act as cautious around her as possible so she starts trusting you, no loud noises, no quick movements etc. You can see how stressed she got just from when you threw the large toy in the pen. I also advice to look into calming pheromones such as “adaptil” I think it might help her. I appreciate the work you do for these dogs and I know you want to do right so I’m just trying to help out!

I agree, she reacted So scared to the mild scolding about the poops 😢 My old girl with ptsd I used to have to say “it’s ok! I’m not mad,”and console her because she was very afraid of being in trouble. Even having an accident put her on high alert and she would rather sit on top of it than have it found.

Yes! Please Joey, we are all telling you the same thing to help! High value treats (cooked chicken breast) and IGNORE HER! High value treats and ignore Mama and she will come to you! And please stop trying to pet her from above, it makes her cower. Try putting your hand on the floor with chicken under and if she sniffs it, then you can slowly try to touch the under part of her chin & neck. These are trauma dogs and you need to treat them different than your previous rescues. Please watch some trauma dog rehabilitation videos. You're doing good but you need to do some things different to help that poor little Mama.

YES couldn't have said it better! I rescue and foster cats and dogs, and you definitely have to be patient and let it happen on their own terms. Give mama dog a couple more places to hide, and start giving delicious snacks (wet food, treats, chicken, etc) to gain her trust. Mama and babies should be eating wet food anyway, they could all use the extra hydration and nutrition! Poor babies, regardless they are very lucky to be where they are with Joey and you can tell they have been through hell.

And i think it would be good to give the mama dog cbd oil so she can calm down, and the other scared dog. They are very stressed, its like ptsd, but in dogs. I had once a dog with this shaked his own body. When a dog does that it is stress and anxiety. And they need a comfort bed with a little roof. To them the space is very big because you can see thrue the walls. And the mama dog and the other dog needs to come out for a walk everyday, its not good for them to just stay in there

Some tips for you Joey: 1) put the massive plastic sheet under the entire pen and under the pee pads. 2) Chihuahuas love to burrow, so that's why they're digging up the pee pads 3) Because they like to burrow, maybe throw in some extra blankets or towels they can use to burrow. I'm not an expert on the breed, long time GSD owner here, but I did learn a few things from CIPYD.

I really hope he reads these comments. The poor babies just need some blankies. I have only had chihuahuas and they are always cold. Especially short haired. I think they would also be extremely happy with a heat lamp as well. My puppers LOVE heating pads when they are right next to me supervised the whole time. A heat lamp would probably be better though as they are puppies and Joey probably can’t watch them 24/7.

I've watched a lot of Rocky Kanaka videos where he goes to visit dogs at adoption centers. With really scared dogs like this, he tends to sit down in the room and doesn't face them or anything, and just holds a high value treat. He lets the dog make the choice to come to him. You could try that with them, and see if it helps. Maybe mount the camera so it's not another scary object coming at them. Either way, you're helping save them from such a horrible situation, so it's amazing
@LookingGlass363

Yes! I volunteered at a shelter for two years. Sitting in the far corner of their crate, away from them with treats, is a really nonthreatening way to get them to come to you.

Some dogs need an enclosed space to feel comfortable. My dog, who has never feared people or his environment, prefers his crate to sleep and rest because he's just a burrow kind of dog. If you're very concerned about the crate, maybe try putting that teepee in there that you've used in the past? It's something to help them get acclimated to something different, but also gives them a place to feel confined and covered. Thank you so much for continuing to care for the babies. And for taking the risk with the Grimace shake. I hope you recover soon. Lmao.

@slotha_ Aww, best name ever!! Oh yeah my Luna loves snuggling under the covers! Breaks my heart seeing how traumatized these poor pups, they need so so much love & patience most of all. Something that really helps a scared/shy dog warm up to your presence is to hand feed them treats! Or place the treat in front of them if they're too scared to even eat off your hand. The pupper will begin to build a positive association with you being near them
@xxxbella0119xxx
@xxxbella0119xxx Год назад
@-JoeyGraceffaVlogs Joey, since you have the blankets spread out all the way under and to the outside of the crate maybe you should probably put something to weigh it down on the outside of the crate along all the edges of the blankets are to hold the blankets down in place so it will help stop them from digging and scratching the blankets up and then maybe you won’t have a disgusting mess to clean up all over your floors. Maybe that will help with the issue. I love animals so much and thank you for being so sweet to foster these animals!❤

Chihuahuas are nesting dogs. They like to burrow in blankets for comfort. Your momma probably needs a small animal bed. The large open space is very stressful for this breed. High value treats and patience. Don’t force interaction, let her come to you. Start giving her really high value treats so she starts associating people with good things. Also let her keep her safe space until she’s ready. Just sit with treats, don’t make eye contact and no sudden movements. Also once she’s warmed up to you, start having people over to do the same thing so she gets comfortable with people in general and not just a single person. She’ll come around. Just takes time and patience. I currently adopted a shelter dog, and she has fear aggression towards men and children.

My 2 year-old chihuahua-terrier was rescued from a hoarding situation. I adopted her at @ age 4 months (the Vet thinks). She was scared to eat unless I sat beside her, and was scared to leave the yard for walks. I spent MONTHS luring her out of the yard with treats, then many more months luring her to the end of the block and back. Then more months around the block, then months walking several blocks. She now walks for 45 minutes or so, like a champ. They are more "meanders" than walks, because I let her sniff to her heart's content (I figure sniffing occupies her brain so she has less time to be scared). I also taught her to sit when she's overwhelmed, so she still automatically sits when big scary trucks or buses go by (I give her tiny treats while she watches them). So, she's close to "normal" now, but wow it was a process. She has grown so much self-confidence in the last year; it's a joy to watch!

From the abuse that they have been through and their terrible conditions they used to live in it’s going to take quite a while for them to get used to you let alone other humans. PTSD and anxiety, depression is a real thing with dogs. You have to go slowly and take time with the dogs if you want to help them heal. You could also use your dogs at a distance so your rescues can see you interact with them and how relaxed and happy they are. That can speed up the process so you don’t have to push yourself onto a dog. Thank you. You are doing a great job. May you all please take care and stay safe. Louisa.👏👏👏❤❤❤🤩🤩🤩

Chihuahuas are a bit different…..they really need to be able to burrow under blankets to feel secure. My two do it daily. On top of them just being completely traumatized from what they’ve gone through, the fact that they’re chihuahuas sorta adds on a lil extra time to the “recovery” clock. I promise you though…..the shaking and terrified looks should subside if you put a couple soft squishy blankets in there. Also, I dunno if you run your AC, but they’re also pretty sensitive to cold (another reason they need to burrow) and my final Chi tip, even my two girls get anxious if I stand over them and reach down to grab them. I think we look like giants to them. Always works better when you’re on same level ❤

You shouldn’t reach out your hand as much to the mother to get her attention, often dogs who are afraid to be touched by random people need to be ignored kind of for them to be able to trust you. Just sit in the pen and let her come to you on her own free will and her own time, that’s what I learned with my friends dog, she only comes to strangers if they don’t give her attention. I can see that it’s scaring the mom when you reach out your hand 😅

Put the tray with pee pad in there. Just remove the wire part since their feet are so little. That way they can start getting pee pad trained since most small dogs have pee pads at home

Maybe the vet can give the mom and guncle some CBD to calm their shivers? Just a thought?! They'll come around but the shaking has to be hard on them.

I don’t really watch this channel and these dogs were recommended to me on the home page so I see all of your fans being super nice and giving great advice. Start taking it, you’re terrifying the mama and aunty dog even more. There’s tons of comments on both videos of what to do you should really take it because mama looks absolutely terrified and it’s sad to see.

I have 3 chi's. Trust me when I tell you, they love to burrow under the covers. Two of mine prefer to sleep in a kennel cuddled together under a blanket. The other one sleeps in my bed cuddled under the blanket. During the day they are usually on one of their many beds throughout the house cuddled under a blanket or in my lap cuddling. They get cold easily. Try putting a few blankets in their pen and taking the top off that crate and put a blanket in there they can get under. They'll stay warmer and feel more secure. They may even stop pulling the pee pads up.

I suspect Auntie may be one of Mother's children from a previous litter, particularly the way he seeks comfort and security from her.

You can take the top of the crate off so they can acclimate better. It smells familiar to them but they aren’t entirely enclosed.

My dog used to be like that mama dog when I first got her at 5. I trained her in a few sittings to let me touch her whenever I want to. She loves ALL affection from humans now. Step one was to give her a highstake treat for sitting next to me. I let her run away and eat the snack. Then I'd rapid fire the treats so she felt she HAD to sit down and eat them, because I would take them back if she left them. The last step was to pet her while holding out the treat. She knew it was coming, and I started with a light touch and increased the time from touches to treats and touched various body parts, nice and slow. I know you're excited to help, but she needs time to get used to humans. You go too fast from what I see. Older dogs need more time and more steps to learn the things that puppies pick up in a snap.

I've had dogs so stressed that they will dig up (or out) pads to create a cave or burrow they can retreat into for safety. Agree with others- direct eye contact is a threat. Better to look at ears, or to the side, etc. ANYTHING THROWN TOWARDS THEM IS A THREAT, even if it's a treat or toy. They don't know intention, they are in survival mode. You did well just putting the toys down. Try doing that with treats for Mama but don't watch. Just ignoring her communicates it might just be okay, and it's not a trap. Thanks for taking them in, Joey.
