I think either Jon or Miniac had a video on this exact subject. Experience helps, but it's most important to remember that the paint isn't permanent. Thus, it can always be stripped and/or repainted. Don't be like me and own like 3-4 amazingly awesome models, and never paint them due to painting skill insecurities. 😆

I always appreciate a good speed painting based video! I collect multiple armies and the videos definitely help motivate me to paint and to keep going while still spending longer amounts of time on things like HQs and such to really make them pop. Damn man, that last bit about putting your favorite model on a pedestal for, “one day”, is soul crushingly true. Lion El’Jonson is still sleeping in the packaging since I’m not entirely confident in my battle ready models. I’ll have a crack at him, the only person I want to be proud of my painting is my wife anyway.

I've spent the last year wanting to get into warhammer and painting, and what I've learned is that it is not a very beginner friendly hobby. That being said, I watched a TON of content during that time and you have some of the best techniques and breakdowns on youtube, hands down. Thank you sir I am inspired, gonna try this tonight. I paint super mechanically so I love any technique that can basically be applied as a template to different projects. E.g. the old school formula of base, wash, base, layer, layer, highlight (reduce surface area each time ending with sharp edges)

So glad you mentioned transitioning from grabbing pots by name and just going with the color you need and blending homebrew mixes. I've started doing this as well and it's been incredibly liberating. I know it seems pretty obvious but I think a lot of new painters to the hobby tend to get stuck on the label.

I don't know what it is about it, but that intro... It always brings a smile to my lips. Your face when you spin. :D Been watching you, Scott and Brent for a long time now, and finally painted my first minis this weekend. A set of three orcs from Reaper Bones. Pretty psyched! Started out with a CW-beginner set, but pretty much ordered a vallejo set after the first painting session. Thickness of the CW-bottles was all over the place, and I found myself really wanting dropper bottles for my home made wet pallete. I think the three of you bring an extreme amount of positivity, encouragement and tutorials for painters of all skill-levels. The collabs are also amazing. Keep slaying the gray!

Great content. I think for most of us newer and less experienced painters this level of painting and time investment is exactly what we’re hoping for. It doesn’t take forever but it looks really good and makes a great addition to our shelf of glory or at the head of our miniature army. I think you really nailed the balance between a good paint job to be proud of and also not taking so long to do it that you work harder on finding excuses than actually painting. As someone who devotes more of my hobby time to becoming a better sculptor, I like the idea that I can still bring my sculptures to life with some color and make it look great without spending too much time away from actually sculpting. (Also great tip about the enamel washes)

Watching you use enamel washes has made me feel a lot braver about using them in future projects! They always felt like they were difficult to use before but i can see they can give a nice grimey appearance with little effort :)
