New Grass Revival! John Denver! NGDB! The Carter Sisters! Vassar Clements! And on and on... Way too much talent for one stage! I saw this on Austin City Limits back when it was new and was just wowed. It's even better now.
"We sang the songs of childhood, hymns of faith that made us strong, songs that Mother Maybelle taught us, hear the Angels sing along." Beautiful tribute to Maybelle Carter by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Start listening to the original Carter Family here on YT, and it soon smacks you directly between the eyes as to the totally profound effect that the Carter Family had, (and continues to have!), on American music, across all genres.
Bless the Dirt Boys for including Mother Maybelle on the original album, and her daughters on the followup. Helen and Anita Carter look and sound beautiful in this video.
I love this with all my heart. And I am an almost entirely classical music lover. I used to watch this entire film on every New Year's Eve with my husband and in-laws. The entire show touches my heart . Tender mercies do here abound.
I've just found this, and my god it's wonderful, no ego's, just enjoying themselves. You can't get any better than this, and John Denver looks so happy. Thank you for uploading .....RIP Henry John deutchendorf Jr, you'll always be the best.......
This is awesome and just the way I remember music growing up. If this doesn't get your motor spinning, perhaps you've already spun too many main bearings in life. Damn this is good!
@bluegrassman776 Why not> MMM was a big star then, well known and respected in country music and a great artist on his own. I think he made a fine addition to this cast. He's as country as Paulette Carlson or John Denver.
