The County threatened me with Jail for a Pile of dirt- what will they do when they find out what I did next. The Government is scrutinizing what I am doing.

It is sad that we are told that we are in a free country that, we are so controlled by our government, and have to find loop holes because people cannot mind their own business

You're suggesting anarchy. What the founders created was "freedom with responsibility". That's called liberty. Limited government, local government, divided powers. We seem to not have taught the following generations what this means. Why do we have manners? To show others that we respect them. I'm guessing you're not going to like or understand my comment. Which, proves my point.

25 years ago we had a 12 by 24 custom built "tarp garage", 12" taller than stock with a wooden structure that my neighbor used for his boat storage and sold to us. The roof and sidewalls were one piece and layed on the ground an extra 12" for 3ft by 8inch sandbags to lay on. Same at the back. It lasted 2 years plus 14 yrs with us till a tree branch destroyed it. It never moved an inch all those years. It was on a solid gravel base. The difference is it was $3000. Back in 97! Cheers 🇨🇦
@blackdandelion5549
@blackdandelion5549 Год назад
It was also likely a much thicker tarp cover back in 97' as many companies sell these now and as a small farmer who uses them for hay, you pay a lot for the mil thickness you probably just got back in 97'. Now they literally have these coming in from China with such cheap frames and cheap tarps that they will list them for "shade use only" and MN winters will simply destroy them. For smaller ones like these you can always add a "sign" and I mean literally when they take the signs down from the highway they sell them cheap but they are several mil thick and one of the best tarps around to add extra thickness to this or simply as a tarp for boats, tractors, equipment, and hay.

A lot people from other states don’t understand is that all taxes we pay every year on our property and house and school. This does not go to local school district but it goes to the cities! I don't know if this will help in your situation but I have always been fond of the "double remodel". If you got a demolition permit and took down the house they wouldn't necessarily let you build a new house. The grandfathered structure is now gone. So, you get a permit to demolish everything but one wall and then you remodel within your footprint back to that wall. Then you get another permit. You guessed it you demolish the fourth wall and install something appropriate to match the first remodel. I would imagine that you could dig down and install a new full basement and you could build up with a second or third floor, depending on what's allowed. You might have to take the position that the second remodel was an afterthought and not a scheme to get around the grandfathering. You should probably consult local experts who can advise you what has and hasn't been approved in the past. And as always, never take a position until you know what it is.

In Minnesota you can repair, rebuild or replace. So you can take the entire house down and replace it, including the foundation.
@DavidKrznar

In Pennsylvania, a remodel that is grandfathered in, as long as one wall is original, you're good to go. So, a shed "remodel" would be just fine, even if it ends up a few square feet larger! If you catch my drift. Certain states and counties have ridiculous building codes, on top of the traditional ones. I am a contractor, and I've consulted a few lawyers for different things that have happened over the years. What I've learned, from a few lawyers; their is always a loophole! Some times you just have to be creative.

I installed a Harbor Frt 'tent' a few years back. It was subject to lots of snow/wind load (Michigan). The frame held up fine, the tarp on the roof section was good for 2 seasons before fatally ripping near the hoop bends. If it could be found, a PVC tarp (flat bed trucker type), would be the ultimate covering for this type structure. Typical PE tarps have a short life as compared to PVC tarps. Also I think wind action, friction, wears the tarps at the hoop bends causing premature fail spots. Doubling the tarp material at these points could be helpful.
@chspyderr
@chspyderr 2 года назад
I had the exact same results but nowhere near the snow, more sun down south, but I also only got 2 maybe 2 and a half seasons of it, and the metal is still good, I added stamped steel roofing/siding and it's been perfect since then

I have a older version second hand from a neighbor who had it for 10+years and it works great for my wife’s mini van. Definitely need to anchor it down good or it will blow away. Mine ended up on the side of my house because of a couple wind storms. I now have it weighted down a lot more then what I did. Also close the doors and windows on it if you know some wind is coming and that should help keep it on the ground. I took the door off of mine to make it easier to park the van. But that also made it easier for the wind to pick it up.

You could install some heavy duty shelving like what they use at Home Depot so that the palletized things can be stacked. It would give you even more room plus you could tie the racked shelving to the frame and the roof to help keep it anchored with some serious weight during the wind storms. The motorized equipment you put in there could also be used as anchors. I hope this experiment works well for you.

Do yourself a favor and add a couple of "rafters" in between each existing rafter using pipe and "end rail clamps" used in chain link fencing. End rail clamps are like a t-fitting that clamps onto the rails. This will minimize the amount that the roof tarp will sag and collect melted snow in the spring. That's what kills roofs- the weight of the snow makes sags which then collects melt water and gets worse and worse. I moved to an alpine-style (arched with a high peak) temporary shelter two years ago and haven't had any issues with snow/rain build-up on the roof.

I had a similar building like that. One thing I discovered was the pallets and the snow plow and the stuff that was up against the wall, when the wind would blow the sides around they would bang up against what was inside and ended up wearing through the outside tarp where it was rubbing up against the edges of the equipment I had inside. I ended up buying new sides for the tent and I wrapped carpet around the sharper edges of the stuff I had inside. It lasted about 6 years before a really big storm blew it down.

Ok . Word of advice . We been dealing with these for decades here in Quebec Canada 🇨🇦 because of our winter's. We put them up every late fall and remove them ever spring . I and most people and 2x4 in tween the A frames but ours come every 4 foot while yours seem to look like every 8 foot so I'd add 2x4 vertically aswell . Adds to the strength and longevity of the tarp . We also have one like you do permanently for tools and stuff . We doubled up on the roofing tarp . One becomes the sacrificial tarp from those extreme hot summer day's and during the winter it helps hold up the load with snow but you absolutely need to remove any built up of snow .

Their big thing will it handle the snow load and the wind. In our county, small storage buildings less than 120 sq ft floor space (does not include roof overhang) does not require a permit. Building codes and permits are there not for your assurance the work was done right but future owners know the building will not fail.

Nice carport just worried about wind and snow think the company should have made the roof stronger more poles to support the roof wear patches on corners and top along the ridge and anchor screws to hold it down . But we shall see how it servives lol awesome video . And awesome property . I was wondering if someone complained to the county to get you on their radar . Keep the vids coming peaceout.

These municipalities and their code enforcement are getting ridiculous. It's a sad day being told what you can and can't do on you're own property.... Oh wait.. homeowners don't actually own their property. The corporation of the municipality does.

here is my 2 cents: Technically since we are forced to pay taxes on the land we own we don't actually own it. the government does since they get to reserve the right to take that land back if we don't pay our taxes. Its truly not "free" then in my opinion if someone else can take it from you at their discretion if you don't follow their rules.

Stanley in March 2020, went to my local Home Depot and bought five of those tents. At that point in time we were giving away hot meals to the elderly And needy families at the beginning of the Covid event. After keeping them up for 10 months with no problems a few modifications. We used 5 gallon buckets and strap them around the leg bases . Thanksgiving of 2020 we started putting these tents up for food bank distribution at daily sites. We would put the tents up at 7 AM and strike them about two in the afternoon. We made a plywood case to store all the parts as well as the tops and sides. In May we were given A portable ice box AC by the Miami Dolphins. The tents are great, we’ve use a occasional spray WD-40 on the joints. And really think the quality of their products was very good to use

As long as your not hurting people physically or the town /city property physically they shouldnt be telling you what to do with your dang PRIVATE property since they dont own it . you purchased it you do as you want ... thats why its called private not town / city property .... Court should back you up ..... Any good lawyer would tell you the same ..... PLUS city /town people shouldnt be on your private property without your strict permission aka prior notification , so if they come onto your property they are trespassing as same rule would go with a neighbor that you wouldnt want on your property ..... shoot you can put up 10 solar panels if you have the space and guess what they cant say squat same goes for Dirty or sand piles . my aunt n uncle hand sand piles on their property for years and Nobody ever came to them threatened them with jail ....

if u want it to last longer this is what i did . i used a 2x6 and connected the legs to it then i drilled a hole in the 2x6 and spiked it into the ground with rebar . it lasted through the winds and u don't have these ropes to trip over trying to hold it down
@Dirtmonkey
@Dirtmonkey 2 года назад
How long has that held up for you?
@wesstokowski7273

i had it for 4 years and then sold it . it was still going strong and was easy to transport it just picked it up and set it On a flat deck trailer. another thing i did was put round dowal wood On the bottom of the doors makes it easier to roll them up and the wind doesn't hurt them as bad
