I used to be in the 74th scouts spent many years up there seen some crazy things sometimes you think it’s your mind playing tricks but it’s not my uncle used to run the scouts there used to be over 20 of us sometimes at summer camps we used to have a full size snooker table and have tournaments great memories would love to go back up
Brilliant this one, more like it, love it when you add a bit of history, or extra stuff, keep it coming mate.. Well when it's all back to normal, what ever that is. There's alot more we don't know about,
Very nice and looked like a lot of fun! Awesome place for an overnighter, you could almost smell the history of that place. The mist and rain definitely added character to this adventure. Thank you for sharing! -Jacko
+MuddyTigerOutdoors Thanks Jacko, the place is rich in history and some of the guys have seen and heard unusual things, a woman screaming, ghosts walking around the camp and Trevors tent footage has strange orb like objects moving around so is definitely a place to visit if you believe in the paranormal. ATB, Damian
I had a great time at willow bog cottage with you and the other guys, you done a smashing job of recording the trip considering the near on constant rain. I'll give you the special award for most amount of video gear carried, you certainly suffer for your art on that hike. Gj looking fwd to next one.
+Chippa Fate I had a great time, felt like I'd known you all for years as we got along so well. I carried some extra gear I never used and felt like a pack horse. I had a camera cage to attach lights and other acessories to which weighed half a kilo and other gopro stuff, a selfie stick as well as the tripod I always carry, loads of spare batteries which didnt get used because the rain stopped me filming more. My main camera was fogged up by morning so ended up just using the gopro which is all weather but audio is shite cause its in the waterproof case. In the end we only have the footage we shot but felt I'd captured most of what I'd liked to. If the sky was clear would have liked to have recorded nightlapse as there is no light polution up Kielder. Your new camera takes a nice pic and will comment on your channel rather than mention here. I hope we go again soon as it was a good night. ATB, Damian.
It's what I like about you and your channel your open minded you don't rule out bigfoot UFOs the paranormal etc. There are strange things in this world and unless you go out to these places in the wilderness in countryside you will never have the chance to encounter them.
Well done for keeping it real with your bivvi in a spooky location. I'm sure many would not have the balls and would opt for the tent. My mate had lavu years ago and loved it, great dual purpose as a poncho (x2) too, great kit.
Great video mate. There's some very good tent/tipi setups you can do with your tarp that are better for windy conditions. Shame there were no spooky sightings Atb Steve.
+Steves Outdoors NE I do prefer a bivy and tarp and I know a good pyramid pitch but not keen on using a pole as the tarp material is thin and dont want to risk holing it. just bought a polish lavvu for winter hill camping and although heavy, its old school and a clever design of two ponchos, I love it. ATB, Damian.
Hi Damien, Cracking video mate, it was great to have you there with us, I would like to invite you again to another camp at that spot sometime if you would like and this time bring a fookin tent lol atb Daz
+Darren Coombs Interviews Thanks Darren, I would love to go again so let me know when, just ordered a Polish Lavvu teepee tent so will have a decent shelter for places where there are no trees.
+Ricketymanfilms Thanks Muss, would have been nice if the place was a bothy, could have chilled out inside waiting for things to go bump in the night. Its all locked up and totally borded but the scouts still use it to store their gear so its not totally derelict. Damian.
+shoogelniffty1 Thanks Al, it was a bit bleak up there but not too cold, just the rain caused one or two problems with camera gear, apart from that, a good wild camp. ATB, Damian.
Another brill and excellent quality video m8t love your laid back attitude . The sound track alone cracked me up as well as the banter between everyone .there are too many people on RU-vid acting far to serious about a fun pastime .Liking the tarp and bivvy setup .takes a bit of balls to lie out in all weathers so exposed to the elements . Nearly as tough as me born in Middlesbrough and dragged up in Glasgow glamping for me is a woolly hat and my Spider-Man pants in a field in -5 easy meat . Lol.Anyway enough bull crap keep em coming m8t oh and would love to see another haunted pitch/camp done . Stab
+crazyandy2008 Thanks, I plan on going back for another haunted wild camp sometime in the not so distant future as there is some strange activity going on at that place. I prefer a bivy and tarp to a tent, once inside you are quite well protected so long as you have pitched right. Damian
Hi there, I have really enjoyed the videos on your channel. You present wild camping videos like know other youtuber. This video was great, what an intresting wild camping spot. Nice stove, you have inspired me to wild camp in the future! Fantastic Channel!!! Cheers Roger (outaboutwilts)
+Steve Brookes Thanks Steve, i've watched the other five videos now and its nice to see the trip from another person's perspective. If it wasn't for the rain i would have captured a whole lot more. Damian.
cracking vid damo, as always , looks like ya had a cracking time, good ta get out with diffrent lads i recon, good crack and banter, as for ghosts, im like ya sel, ive gotta see it to believe it, the mind is very powerfull and can play tricks so unless i seen mesel, i wont believe 😉
+northeastbushcrafter John, no mystery is closed to an open mind, the lads are adamant they saw something spooky on an earlier trip, if it wasn't raining I would have bivvied outside and kept a lookout for strange goings on. Was a good laugh to finally get out and start meeting folk, Kielder is great this time of year no midgies. Damian.
I'm glad I cam across this video. I've been trying to find the other fellas videos on here I believe he's a butcher? Can't remember what his RU-vid name is?
checkout some of the earliest comments, they will be of the guys I camped with. Codhunter will know as I don't recall, ATB and thanks for watching.. ru-vid.com
Might fine video you have! I am a new subscriber. Super nice of you to list your friends channels. I'll be sure and check them too. Fun to see the gear and hear the chat. I liked Dave's idea about how to raise money for charity. I took the red pill. My two favorite sayings are, "Keep an open mind just don't let your brains fall out" and "Be skeptical, just don't close your mind." Cheers!
Damien, Your tarp loops need stitching up so there is only a small gap for the ridge line to feed through. I have the same tarp and they have about 4 inches of loop which means loads of movement, so it will still flap around no matter how tight your ridge line is.
+RID Yes I don't like the size of those loops, I wonder what they were thinking when research and development came up with that idea?.. must have Stevie wonder working there oe something.
+Fell Wanderer Ha ha I think your right. Great vids by the way keep them coming. We camped about half a mile down stream on the Akenshaw Burn in December couple of years ago canny place. Cheers Rid
Brilliant vid there bud - you stick with ye tarp mate and let the glampers glamp ;-) I used my 3x3 DD as a tent one night,, formed a tepee style tent,,worked well. - Using the 2 cameras made for a more pro video to. - looking forward to ya next camp - ATB - Marcus
+Woodsman ocD86 Thanks Marcus, I've seen some videos on youtube on how to do the pyramid/tepee style tarp, its a good setup in bad weather, wish i had a tree over me, could have hung a guyline down to the centre point, not keen on putting a centre pole in as the tarp material is lightweight and dont want to risk ripping it. tents go against my minimal ways but if I had to have one it would be a polish lavvu, not lightweight but inexpensive. ive got a one man tent but its like being in a coffin so prefer the freedom of a bivy and tarp lol.. Damian
Those Luxe Hexpeaks can take a good wind battering. One of the lads was using one on our trip Friday night. Vid will be up later on if not tomorrow. 90mph winds and teaming rain and it stayed up. Looked a nice spot did that like. Thanks for sharing Damian. ATB, Mike
+Fergs uK saw that preview last night of you getting cut off on that island with flash floods, looked a bit dodgy to me, hoped you found decent ground and shelter. Them Luxe Hexpeaks are nice and would have one but couldnt justify paying out for a tent i might only use 1 time a year as I will always bivy first unless the weather is too bad. May get a polish lavvu for the occassional winter wildcamp but that probably wouldnt get used much either. ATB, Damian
+Fell Wanderer I dont mind spending £20 for a tent I may only use occasionally but £150 I cant justify even though the Luxe Hex is a great piece of kit
Fell Wanderer That island was the morning after a dodgy night hah. My vid is up now so you can see and hear the storm. Scared the hell outta me. I've been thinking about a Lavvu for ages myself as well to be honest. I wan't to get up to Kielder in the winter for a real good snowy camp. Might have to sort something out. I wild camped once before I got a hammock and I swore I wouldnt ground dwell again. I love my hammock but something about laying on the deck and staring at the stars brings out a primal side of me. I want a clear starry sky with a foot of snow on the ground. I'd be in heaven!
great video as ever, nice to see some Luxe hexpeaks in action :)..i got a question about yr go-Pro mount, do u find the chest rig gives a better "view" than head mounted set-up?
+Wandering Jay both mounts will give the same field of view its just that the chest mount will only be recording facing forward and seeing less wheras the head mounted camera will be moving around more and very shaky but sees exactly what you are seeing. I guess it depends on the situation, if I'm filming just infront then the chesty is great, I think the chest mount is more useful to me for bushcraft and is less conspicious but the head mount has its uses as another POV, like for rock climbing where you may want to capture everything where you are looking and arent able to hold a second camera for obvious reasons. In a nutshell both mounts have their uses and depends on what you want to film and what angles you want to capture
Damian I thoroughly enjoyed that! You captured the event perfectly mate. I am 100% sure I heard a woman-no doubt. You know me now well enough to know I don't want or like ghostly happenings but they seem to happen! Keep the vids coming mate......fantastic. Take Care.
+Codhunter0 Thanks Trevor, was a good trip and if I'd bivvied outside my tarp I may have been lucky or unlucky enough to see something. Just ordered a Polish Lavvu teepee so have a good shelter now as it wasn't really the best place for a tarp. Damian
A bit heavy though around 3.5 kilos but good value for money. Cant justify spending more on a tent that will only be used a couple of times a year when I will be using a tarp mostly
Hi Damien..what I want to know is have their been reports of friendly ghosts or hostile ghosts there? If friendly it could have added to an already great meeting...enjoyed the laughter. Mark
+WyeExplorer The guys on another trip had one walking around their tents and one was seen beside the cottage. Not sure if they are hostile or friendly as there wasn't much interaction with them but while the lads were at a bothy the windows were opening by themselves and writing was appearing on the window glass
Fell Wanderer Now that's interesting. Sounds like the walkers wanted to be close to the living and the windows opening by themselves. Not sure what that might have been but the writing. Depends on what it was. Would have been good to get an image of the messages. Good video..good story. All the best. Mark.
+Markwildcamp Thanks Mark, I would do a solo there as it didn't feel spooky but then again I was under the tarp so seen nothing, theres a lot of history to that place and well worth a visit. Damian.
Its 5 km from the carpark at NY 63544 89610. I don't think they allow overnight parking or there's now a permit system in place. I know they have changed the rules about parking so it will be best to ring them and find out.
Shame you could,nt have got in the place and felt the atmosphere Damian i did a similar camp at Annesley hall ..apparantly one of the most haunted places in Nottinghamshire in a thunder storm a great experience but no para normal activity recorded it is on yt on another channel if interested A great camp up there mate enjoyed watching ATB ..steve
+MuddyTigerOutdoors Its a Panasonic X900, they dont make them now but have newer models available. A gopro will give just as good footage for a third of the price but what a good camcorder has over the gopro is image stabilisation and a zoom lense.
I’m copying and pasting this reply to every vid on this matter. I literally hadn’t thought about this shit until I found my neckerchief whilst sorting my mam’s loft out and was talking about Malcolm’s ghost stories when he used to take us away with the scouts of Silver Lonen. Sorry to kill this whole lore but I have to make a confession here. Basically, our scout group was from Silver Lonen in Newcastle. Our scout leader Malcolm Landreth (I think that’s how it was spelt, it’s been about 24 years) he would rent out this cottage at weekends. This exact narrative the fella in the other vids about the bridges and reavers etc is what I wrote in a completely fabricated article on TheShadowLands about 20 years ago. I can’t believe I’ve caused all this nonsense 🤣
+Brian Harley There is a carpark at Matthews Linn at Kielder then the walk along the Bloody Bush road takes you to the cottage location at Latitude 55°11'53.66"N, Longtitude 2°38'10.48"W Ordnance Survey grid ref: NY 59612 89511
Nice backpacks. Been reading up on Willowbog cottage on bits from Google. You might be interested in "The Winters Gibbet" Google it and pick "Rob kirkup's ghosts of the North East" A bit in there about Harwood forest. I might camp there on me own sometime if I can get a small caravan.
+John S. May Thanks John had a look at that site and know of some of those places, I'm not scared of ghosts, infact its the living I'm scared of the most. Harwood freaks me out of all the places I've camped. ATB, Damian.
Hi mate, the tent itself is very good in wind etc. The bedroom is wide but small and tight for me and I am 6ft tall and use a 5cm mat. The vestibule is large and good for bad weather cooking. You need to carry walking poles or buy the specific pole for the tent. Another down side is the amount of pegs needed ....up to 20 in strong winds or just 6 in calm. As a motorcycle rider myself I would say it's good but.....depends on your size. It is just over 1.2kg. Without the inner it is vast! Hope this helps a little? Trev. RU-vid channel Codhunter0
+Codhunter0 A fantastic tent IMHO, looked like a palace inside for the amount of space to cook and storing gear in although the sleeping area wasn't massive but was ok especially for a shorter fella like me
Tents across the pond look so strange! And it was terrifying to watch you drive on the "wrong side of the road," even though I recognize that to be totally normal.
+James Mcmurrough The Bothy trip was done by Darren, Rob, Trevor and Mick. They have videos up on their channels, links are in the description of my video
That was awesome but you should try do it yourself so you know if there are noises it isn't you like a proper investigation take an air rifle with you though
I'd like to know what warp speed he used to get to the location, and if the cameraman was fine down between his legs? When they met up, you'll have noticed how they all shook each other's hand, and then instantly forgetting whose hand they had shook, they went for another round, just to be sure no one had been missed. Unfortunately, the next segment of the video contained a lot of Geordie talk, but the translator was held up by being asleep in his home. Hopefully, an English transcript of what was said will be forthcoming in the near future? The one with the mammaries was quite animated as he regaled the motley crew of his experiences in a sort of..."Hey, I got knowledge and I insist on unloading it on you all!" kind of way.
Hi mate. I am the person that wrote the shadowlands story about the cottage all those years ago. If you want to get in touch reply to this message. Cheers

Looked a canny spot for a wild camp Damian, Check the league tables mate, Boro are currently 2nd in the championship. Premier league next season. UTB. A.t.b............Gary.
+Fell Wanderer Just watched the toon beat liverpool 2-0, great game end to end. I hope the 3 northeast teams are in the prem next season. A.t.b............Gary.
Haha this is lush, used to camp here with my old scout group , we also stayed in the cottage too on numerous occasions, when I see this place I think freedom
Well thats your opinion and you are entitled to it. I haven't seen a ghost but keep an open mind because I know people who have seen them and had paranormal activity
+marie taylor Hi marie, I can't always find the time to reply to everyone, I thank everyone in a previous video for the kind words and interest in the channel. If theres a question you would like answered I'll try my best to respond, ATB, Damian
I've camped at Harwood forest and recorded strange animal sounds, heard wood knocks and tree breaks in the early hours of the morning when no one else is around. Have heard wood knock responses to my knocks which I've captured on camera and uploaded which is on one of my previous videos. Seen strange tree breaks in the shape of a "W" and was too thick to be broken by a person, seen 2 possible footprints which were around 16" in length, they are in earlier videos and have seen other strange stuff like sheep remains in the forest too deep to have just wandered off as there was no grass in there for to graze and found wool/skin up a tree so all this is a mystery to me. Had a farm worker tell me the other day about a 7 foot tall figure seen in the farm yard and threw a hammer at him in the shed while checking the lambs, he has had corn, chickens, sheep and tools go missing only to find the tools later scattered around. He has invited me to the area to have a look so think he's sincere as doesn't want the attention or be identified but wanted to tell someone his story. So there are some strange things going on around Harwood forest
