Window Tinting Dot Matrix with Glue 

Method is legit. I've been using this glue on Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ's as well as a few old Taurus models. Glue is stout and Ralph has been using it for years. I

Awesome video and technique. I wish I had known about the DOT Matrix before I took my car to a local tinter. I would have planned ahead to try and deal with this challenge. I ended up using black-matte vinyl on the outside of the window as a graphic accent to cover up the mess the DOT Matrix caused with my tint. Unfortunately my local tint-guy was not familiar with how to deal with this issue.

Can't seem to locate an answer. How does it hold up over time? Does it turn yellow or loosen the adhesive grip? Lots of people asking, so I hope someone can provide an answer based on experience.

Because this is a craft glue what happens as far as yellowing over time? Have you ever considered a uv stable resin? Applied in the same fashion.

Ralph, just wanted to check back with you if you still use this glue and if you had any yellowing problems. Also, may I ask if you use Dotrix vinyl as well? I have a dot matrix silvering prob with my front windshield area where the rearview mirror is situated.

Will not turn yellow with that glue.

What's the working time with that glue. I tried to find it at walmart but couldn't so I used a differnt kind and it dried on me before I could finish. Needles to say had to scrap the tint and it took me a day to get the glue off the dots. Obviously it was the wrong glue. Now I'm nervous to try it again.

I have a Nissan Versa Note that has 4 quarter windows (front & back) with dots all the way around the window opening. The width of the dot pattern is about 3/16 - 5/16 inches before they run into solid black at the edge of the glass. I want to use the glue method to insure a good looking job. I haven't seen any videos on a window like this, so here's what I am thinking and would like your critique. I have zero experience installing film, so anything you can add will be helpful. 1. First, I'll sand the dots and text block with 600 grit paper and then clean the glass for installation.2. Using a paint brush, apply one (or two) THIN coats of blue gel glue over the dot pattern and text. Let it dry completely. 3. Apply a second, thicker coat and let it become tacky-to-dry to touch, but not all the way through. 4. Install the film, more or less normally starting at the center, making sure the glue picks up enough water so the film lays flat all the way around edges at the dots and text block when squegeed.5. The film can be somewhat smaller than the window because the border is solid black. The film will not be tucked under a seal. A million thanks to Ralph, an excellent teacher. We'll see if the student is up to the job!

If I had my tint done about a month ago, can I still pull it back and use this method?

It is clear when it dries.

You should heat it blow the dots, peel it down to the lowest point. And just set it out in the sun for like ten to twenty minutes. Use a gray with a paper towel.

what about the side dot matrix? should we do the same?

Looks really good but, I do think you used way too much glue! I usually use pure water to wash out all the soap and then squeegee it with my yellow squeegee attached to the handle. You have to grind it down to fit in the handle, works better than the Blue Max to me. Cover the back seat with a thick blanket to absorb all the water.

Hi Ralph, that is a fantastic trick for the problem regarding the dot matrix dots on the glass from the factory. Question, can you share kind of the theory behind this trick? Does it work because the glue acts as an adhesive that sucks the film in between the dots? The adhesive on the film not strong enough to stick in between them as good as when using the glue as a adhesive agent? I am just curious as to how this works so well. Also, when you use sand paper to sand the dots down in newer videos (I know you said this is three years old), is it possible to sand the dots down to be flush with or even off the glass? Why not just cut below the dot matrix and not put tint on it at all seems better 2 me
