People have no idea... I have seen Sifu Emin work with so many good people in his seminars around 1990... there was never a judo man throwing him, never a Thai-Boxer able to kick him... He was always showing with the biggest and strongest... he never said he is the best and can beat everybody... but he was dominating them all... an outstanding sportsman... talk bad about him and you talk bad about martial arts at all!!!!!

This sifu Emin Boztepe is straight forward, simple very strong ruthless ofedefensive technique and great teacher because u can understand him easily but when it comes to Bruce Lee im not in aggrement with Boztepe first of all bruce lee has interview and recorded where he is showing the same thing which boztepe talking about bruce infact bruce speaks that his moves with screaming and fancy kicks are just good for movies or to impress someone while in fact the real thing and in real situation he uses very ruthless and straightforward hits that are really practical ...

Being fit is definitely important! However they way you fight also has a huge role on how fit you need to be.. If you focus on being relaxed, and using the enemy's energy, until you have a clear shot and you can unleash your actual force. You save a lot of wasted "unleashed punches" that miss or are deflected, or used against you. This process saves your energy, decreasing your required "fitness level". I fought a guy 2x my size, and the WT works for me. I didn't even break a sweat.

this is from a guy who is just starting to study WT having studied karate, im amazed how well this system is built upon knowing the mechanics of the human body (so you know the machanics of ur opponents physical body, note: not their ability) the only other styles ive came across that seem to demonstrate this is Aikido and maybe judo (regarded as soft styles or arts) all other styles being hard, karate ,taekwando etc, add me as friend and i'll give u a neutral feedback about my learning of WT.

I really loved the videos. Thank you so much for posting. I only regret that Emin is no more part of the Leung Ting organisation. I'm so sad he's separated some years ago. Because I think union makes the force (i'm not saying that Emin is right to do it or not). It just saddens me to see these guys separated. Cause I see them as a family, and it's really sad when this happens to a family. Best regards to you

@Kommisar: Nice desktopfighterspirit man :) In Norway we recently had a Seminar on Takedowns - where we invited all MMA fighers and graplers in a martial arts forum - to share our knowledge. Only 3 showed up. The ones who did - spoke quite warmly about Wing chun after that :) They had the chance to test our teacher if they wanted, but it seemed like the teachings was clear enough in it self. You also have to remember that many of Emin Botzepes students are skilled fighters from many styles MMA:)

@kommisar I have practiced TWC for 7 years, and you can tell the Emin is not a fraud. His movements are precise and fluid and I would not want to face him in a fight. Yes he has made money a driving force of what he does and changed TWC elements into something else, and alot of the the Wing Tsun practitioners are looked down on by many of the traditionalists. Even so, there is no denying he is an excellent fighter and practitioner of what he does. Peace

i can see a lot of applications to other martial arts here- namely bjj (obviously) and how you can keep doing your bjj- guard pass, sweep, mount, not letting opponent pass your guard... and now that i think about it and see him do it- some of the better guys who always tapped me out in no time seem to have figured out this same knee pinching thing...

As for WC not be present in MMA, I believe that many MMA fighters may have had some training in WC, but it is not their primary style. MMA is as much about conditioning as it is about technique and most WC schools do not train to that extent. A great strength of BJJ is that training in it doubles as hardcore conditioning, whether it be with drills or just rolling with a partner, so it is easy to transition from BJJ training into MMA.

When you want to be proficient as a fighter, you´ll have to accept that physical attributes like strength, speed, and especially stamina play a crucial role. Many guys got crushed because they thought throat or groin punches would do the trick and they don´t have to be fit. With practising a martial art, that point should be obvious: If training is exhausting, imagine a real fight. I saw a lot of people getting exhausted after a couple of seconds just from the adrenaline.

-If you've sweeped somebody to the ground, they're not just going to sit up so you can kick him in the face; they're going to control those immediate threats before moving on to YOUR face. -"Not using any force"--You are kicking him in the face and the balls while preventing him from gaining a better position. -at 4:50 --omoplata anyone? -You're comparing someone who is trapping, and then punching, versus someone who "just moves"; obviously there will be a difference.

What was the point ? Emin trained early versions of BJJ and what u call MMA today back in the US during the 1990s. His Gracie challenge however remains a zero point loss for him to this day. The Willie CHung episode you can mark off as two egos, Kernspecht vs Chung clashing, with Kernie sending Emin to do teh fighting. No glory there as well. Emin does his own stuff now and he has evolved. Good for him. Even MMA fighter Josh Barnett speaks highly of WIng Chun in his "Guard Attack" series.

Boztepe can refer to what he is teaching as whatever he likes, but the techniques are not part of the traditional WC system. I am not making any claim that WC is superior, although in my opinion, it is a very effective striking art. Through my training in wing chun, my grappling and BJJ also improved. Just as many football teams bring in WC instructors to train their players to better pass people. If I were to choose one art, it would be BJJ, as it does not take as much training to be effective.
@cloviq
@cloviq 15 лет назад
I apologize for quoting it a little wrong, but Dana White's comment was worded as "Father of MMA". Also the Gracie system as practiced by Helio was his modified JJ. It is not MMA as we know it today. I have trained with BJJ and JJJ practitioners and I have tapped them both, just as I have been tapped by either. I have watched a few of Boztepe's videos and agree that much of his system is flawed, but what you must understand is he is not Wing Chun. This is his system that came from wing chun.

Seen the episode. Hardly even a glimpse of WC. I have watched a video of one of Eddie Bravo's students in which he directly references Eddie's interest in wing chun while explaining "kung fu move". MMA = Mixed Martial Arts and by virtue of the words "hybrid system", JKD would be classified as a mixed martial art as it is not one style. White's comment was based on Bruce Lee's concept of not swearing by any one system, but mixing them together.

I dont seem to be so convinced about this Emin guy. All his video portray him tricking his sparring partners with quick sucker punches. His partners aren't really fighting, theyre just sparring. Emin takes advantage of them, and with surprise quick hits. Even tricks them with kicks. I need to see Emin in real action against an opponent that will actually fight back. Please link me a video.

See, I did Shotokan for 4 years. Now I do mainly boxing and wrestling and there´s an important difference in training methods: Karate lacks free sparring, which is essential if you want to attain some fighting proficiency. Did you ever train in any grappling style? Because I feel perfectly capable to take strikers down, which might be because I have done so time and time again. By the way I also tried EBMAS WT so I know a little bit.

You do have to understand 1 thing about mma fighters. They are good fighters and im sure they can hadle themselfs well on the street,however it is not the same as the ring. on the street you are wearing normal clothing,shoes,the ground is usually concrete,weapons ect.... also these guys that fight mma train up for fights.. so they have perfect prep,nutrition ect..
@KingColt1985
@KingColt1985 15 лет назад
I don´t get that. How could you ever exclude the risk of being taken down and end up on the bottom if you´re talking serious self defense? So the "only on your terms" part makes no sense to me. Sorry about that.

Real WT is based on principles and concepts.. its application is simply a manifestation of those principles.. It seems from your post that you have had some training with Wing Chun guys, and they just as closed minded as most other stylistic martial artists. I love WT, but that's because I see it when I'm training in other techniques, specifically takedown throws and ground fighting.
@cloviq
@cloviq 15 лет назад
I should not have to defend myself, as I considered this a friendly debate, and have not attempted to attack you on a personal level. However, I will say that LARPing is not a hobby of mine, MA is. My MA training was primarily in Okinawan Karate styles, along with some Aikijutsu before I joined the Army, where I was introduced to BJJ thru the Army Combatives program. I came to really enjoy the system and have since trained with many Gracie JJ students. WC, a newer and good part of my repetoire.
@KingColt1985
@KingColt1985 15 лет назад
You are probably right, my point was a different one though. Against an educated ground fighter, this will get you into trouble very quickly. Defending the guard against somebody that isn´t trained in grappling does not validate the effectiveness of the techniques in my opinion. It´s like proving your superior lat sao against a karateka. So as far as Boztepe goes, what I´m saying is: teach wt if that´s what you know, and stay away from the grappling, since you have no clue of it obviously.
@KingColt1985
@KingColt1985 15 лет назад
and by the way, BJJ for example is a style that got famous for enabling smaller, weaker people to overcome bigger and stronger opposition by really proving it in actual fights. So no, grappling does not only teach you how to be stronger physically. You really sound like someone who never trained anything but wt. Am I right? That´s not an insult by the way, just a question.
@cloviq
@cloviq 15 лет назад
It would not be the first, as you may have heard of someone named Bruce Lee. As Dana White refers to him as the "Creator of MMA" (Dana White, president of UFC and Bruce Lee's formal training was 90% wing chun). If you have read any of Bruce Lee's books, you would see that JKD is WC. What Boztepe is showing is not perfect, as it does not account for leg kicks to grounded fighter among other things. But no technique is perfect, just as there is a counter to any BJJ sweep.

@cloviq

Further, I will say that traditional wing chun was not built as a ground fighting system. That is why I have trained in other grappling arts to supplement my fighting skills. All martial styles must evolve over time tho, and just as BJJ is no different. The rubber guard was pretty much unheard of until recently and now you can clearly see it in use in MMA today. Wing Chun is evolving and many instructors are experimenting and to attack Boztepe for doing something different, is childish.
@KingColt1985
@KingColt1985 15 лет назад
Of course, plus in a street fight conditioning doesn´t necessarily play that that much of a role. My original point was seek out the right instructor. And from my point of view Boztepe isn´t a qualified ground fighting teacher. Plus I feel that chain punches and the like are not economic fighting, but to each his own. This will lead to nothing, I believe.

I get the idea of having an open system that incorporates what is useful for you, but you´ll still have to learn it from a qualified instructor, i. e. for groundfighting I would`nt seek Boztepe. And as for other arts not teaching follow ups, combinations, counters I think you´re way off there, no offense. If you want to develop as a martial artist, seek out the best available instructors for each part of fighting, even if they´re not wt trainers.
@cloviq
@cloviq 15 лет назад
Your haste in making this a personal issue suggests a high level of immaturity that would lead me to believe you are a high school kid who has had some minimal training in BJJ and thinks that it is the end all be all. Boztepe is using WC concepts to make his own techniques for ground fighting. In my opinion, there are flaws. I am a big fan of BJJ as it allows for a smaller person to handle a larger, but I have chosen to broaden my knowledge to be a more complete Martial artist.
@KingColt1985
@KingColt1985 15 лет назад
You said other martial arts don´t teach what to do when you "fuck up", which is wrong. What you guys call sensitivity training has a similar goal as sparring in striking and rolling in grappling arts. I think your general perception of how grapplers and strikers train outside of wt is just wrong. According to that logic, it´s best to learn everything from people that have no clue because they´re easier to overcome? In training we don´t aim for ego props, but self improvement.
@cloviq
@cloviq 15 лет назад
What real WC are you looking for? A collection similar to the Gracie's that had set out to show their systems superiority? WC does not have such a collection. Neither does any other system that I know of. Plenty of credible systems like Krav Maga, Silat, and the Filipino Arts do not have such videos, but are taught as combat systems to military. BJJ is easier to demonstrate in competition safely because rules can be set in place for safety without really detracting from the effectiveness of it.

@elvisigi if you cant see the flaws in these 'concepts' will then you are brainwashed. That´s why you always find wt instructionals that say "anti grappling", "anti boxing", anti whatever. Truth is I have never seen any of this work in a real fight and I´ve sparred with wt guys, and guess what? They couldn´t withstand the little nancy grappling crap. I still won´t call wt crap as you do with grappling, but I am saying this demo is straight up BS.

Why are you so intence about WT? What are trying to proove? That WT sucks? Even if you sucses to do that and show it to the whole world, there will be always people who will learn it. It's inevitable. So save your energy and do something good with it. Do something creative, something positive. Every "Bozo" can flame. But not every ono can do something positive. Do you can?
@KingColt1985
@KingColt1985 15 лет назад
What I thought was funny by the way is that they claim to be such a free spirited style (just like you did) that takes in everything that works but then they don´t even look at other styles saying "that´s not WT, so it won´t work" (just like you did). When I wanted to try something in training, no was the answer always. So from this and demos like on that video my conclusion is you all don´t know what you´re talking abut and the ignorance that the wt community boasts is embarrasing

Sorry but straight BS, and I´m not trying to bash WT but wake the f up and realize that this is not your field of expertise, seek a qualified instructor and learn there.
