Wow. I’m so envious. I was only 7 when Wings played in Adelaide. I recall standing outside listening with my cousins. I’m a massive fan. Well done on being there !
I usually avoid beetle talks, but I think Linda was a good musician while Yoyo, as evident during the 'SCUMBAG' ZAPPA GOT LENNOHNO 'BOTH' TO SCREAM AS SHE WAS TO A BLIND MAN - BEING REPEATEDLY TORTURED, MASSIVELY STABBED & PAINED AS SHE YODELLED AHH-AHHAHH! AHHHAHHAHAHHH.. AHHAAHHHHHHHH, AHHHH..AAHHH & KEPT HITTING ON SOME TRASHCAN LID OR SOMETHING WITH A TRADITIONAL, BENT TIRETOOL -LIKE I-TEM, REALLY SHOWED THE FUTURE OF MUSIC IN A COUPLES SENSE. SEE IT: ZAPPA & LENNON
I love watching Little Jimmy leaping around on the stage in that red suit. I don’t care if he’s high or not. He’s very entertaining and his playing is spot on.
Jimmy playing beautifully and Wings are excellent! I first heard Jimmy play when Ken Street Jnr a neighbour and acquaintance who was a group and fan club manager - of many bands like 'The Love Affair' and many others - even the 'Jimmy Hendrix Experience he had a Grundig tape pre-release of Thunderclap Newman's 'Something in the air'. Next time, an amateur group of musicians including me playing rhythm guitar had the great honour of Jimmy being invited by our vocalist who was an acquaintance of his. We also were invited to Jimmy's Dad's place near Tottenham, London. Both times Jimmy played superb lead guitar for our entertainment ! Apparently, Jimmy's dad had been a Big Band guitarist and had taught him. At the time, Jimmy said that his girlfriend was Lulu, the Scottish singer - this was about 1968. I immigrated to Australia in 1969 - and left behind wonderful musicians. So sad to hear that Jimmy passed away, so young, so talented RIP.
The Wings Over America tour of 1976 came soon after the '75 Australian tour. The set lists were very similar, except that Junior's Farm was pulled from the American set list and Speed of Sound songs were added. Surely Junior's Farm could've stayed, and say, Call Me Back Again could've been dropped. Oh well.
This, JET, Crackerbox Palace, Photograph, Give Me Love, My Sweet Lord & a few more post- Beatles trx outshine any Beatles songs in my home. They're fresh, hot, cryptic maybe & have a great joy to them - Linda was in WINGS- unlike Yoyo banging on a metal pot w/a stick & yodelling (as at the Zappa show in NY & a Yoyo w/Chuck going through shock. THAT maybe was a joke or something.
I don't really like the beetless, but solo material from each is strong: My Sweet Lord, Give Me Love, Cracker Box Palace Photograph, Sweet Sixteen, JET, Jr's Farm, Band On The Run, etc. All that stuff still has power & freshness.
So this is what it really sounded like, people :-) Not that polished up stuff from Rock Show and Wings Over America, where most vocals are dubbed in the studio :-)
