The Djinn as a concept being let loose in the prison system on paper is a cool concept using the same rules as the first movie. But this movie just didn't do it.

I quite like the characters of Mr. Elm Street and Mr. Hellraiser, though I'm much more fond of Mr. Halloween and Mr. Friday the 13th.

LOL, in the shower jump scene, I expected Djinn to also lick the glass and breathe heavily against it.

The cigarettes were thrown in to convince the other guy it was a more normal deal like he was used to, not just because he wanted a pack of cigarettes.

I know this is totally random, but I have to ask this: What's it say about this girl that her ex-boyfriend apparently decided to become a Catholic priest after they broke up ? I mean, I've seen the "turned my ex gay" trope, but this is ridiculous.

I remember seeing this on that double movie set with the first one back when I was ten. Even then I could tell it was pretty much bullshit. Innocent little me thought the lawyer shit his pants so hard he died. XD

When I first viewed this film years ago, I thought "Hey, it's directed by the guy who did The Hidden, a well thought out sci-fi/horror film". After viewing this film, I was like "What happened to you, Jack Sholder ???" He's now a professor at a college.

It wasn't just the guard that got two wishes in the first movie, the shop assistant did too. She wished for cash and then youth. Also the MC's boss wished first for the jug to be worth more then for a million dollars. The rule about one wish wasn't in the first film, it was introduced in this one... then also ignored in this one.

Never thought about it. That was a huge time paradox.

27:15 well, the Djinn first says "Here's the man", reference to Pontius Pilate's sentence "Ecce homo"; the priest is also an "alter Christus" in the Roman Catholic Church, hence why he was placed on a cross. The Djinn is making fun of his faith, for he allowed himself to be placed in that situation.

Because this sequel starred the original actor for the Djinn, I didn't think it was that terrible. The two that followed this, though......

Speaking of doing research... The Islamic, Catholic, and Jewish God are all the same. They are called the Abrahamic religions for a reason.

What I would have done( besides change every goddam thing in this movie).......when she wished 'I wish that security guard was alive again' he should have woken up in his coffin underground full of decay and maggots .....that would have been horrific 😁 this movie really was a wasted opportunity. 😧

I mostly agree what you said in this video, I cant believe they fucked up the djinn and the rules for the wishes this badly. It also doesn't help that most of the characters are unlikable assholes

When I saw this on VHS back in the 90's I thought the best kill was Tiny Lister shitting himself when he went toe-to-toe with the Djinn.

I don't think the wish on behalf of the casino counted and those people died because they wished to win that's why he went there everyone was making wishes. That's why the dginn repeated it because it annoyed him that he couldn't touch the guy yet

You gotta applaud that right out the gate the movie tells you it won't adhere to it's predecessor and the writer is a hack.The only more efficient way they could have done that was a title card saying, "Get out now!"

Every time I saw that scene with the prison guard I had always hoped there would be a dancing scene.

I feel like the 'alive again' wish should have had the cop wake up in his coffin.

I really don't want to defend this movie but technically the term 'freeze" can mean "to become frozen" or "the act of freezing something" A freezer freezes water.

Ya know, there's something to the idea of being wished out of existence. Imagine if this movie was about the girl being manipulated by her boyfriend, and the Djinn, into making wishes, and at the end when she realizes just how crazy things are, she wishes that her boyfriend had never been born. Or that they'd never met. Sure, it would re-use the paradox ending of the original, but it could have been a more interesting story than this.

Ironically in Arabian meth and lore which the second film leans more to the gyn cannot possess anything unless the master grants it to them

HEY! I like the actor who plays the cop interviewing the Jinn. I remember him from the Angel pilot. I'm surprised the guy reviewing this missed that since he's a Buffy Fan (and who watched Buffy without watching Angel?).

My question is why they had the stereotypical priest in a horror movie when an Imam would have made much more sense for a movie involving a Jinn. It also would have been less weird to consider him being the devil at any point even if it would have been stupid to try and pull that

Anytime the topic comes up re: why the djinn isn't a more prolific horror character, I mention how the ball got dropped for part 2 and then kicked and fumbled oafishly around for an additional 2 sequels. There was certainly Nightmare on Elm Street / Freddy potential for the character but instead the djinn is lucky to get brought up well after Leprechaun gets a mention.

Andrew is so good in this role it's hard not to enjoy the movie just for him. It's technically a bad movie but he makes it worth the watch.

Did anyone else keep waiting for that bowed top mounted shelf behind Andrew to fall off the wall?

I mean with the "alive again" as the Djinn is meant to fuck about with wishes, you'd think it would cut to the guard waking up in his coffin screaming, and her realising she wasn't pure as she'd just condemned him to die slowly in darkness. That's what I'd have done if I was him, or maybe turn him into a zombie or vampire who goes around killing people. You know anything but the objectively nicest possible way of interpreting that wish.

I just caught this and it's fantastic. If you listen close, when the prisoner asks if the Djinn is tripping (9:46), it's very quiet but you can hear the Djinn repeat Yes immediately after he's asked that. Pretty funny.

Few things. All Abrahamic religions worship the same god but fight over the prophet. The Djinn in Islam are an entity ranking between angels and man. They are made out of smokeless fire and do not have the power destroy the world. I seem to remember that Islam's version of Satan was a Djinn who refused to bow before Adam. I think where the idea of wishes came from is King David's son, Solomon. He bound demons to do his bidding with a ring gifted to him by the angels.

The lawyer scene was probably the most entertaining piece of the film, at least it was an interesting way to fulfil the wish

Ha, I can actually remember liking this quite fondly (though certainly not as much as the first), but you're right. In the less than 5 minutes they destroy any connection to the first film, and it cheapens the overall story in the long run. :/ 9:00 Yeah, that was the other reason why the sequels sucked. The first movie managed to avoid dragging the djinn, a creature of Middle Eastern folklore, into the mess of convoluted cliches which is Western religion.

As far as the casino "manager" goes, he didn't actually get 2 wishes for himself. When he made the first wish he was technically speaking on behalf of the casino, but the 2nd wish he made for himself.

The new rules they came up with were probably to fill the plot hole from the first movie which made the Djinn so easy to defeat. Seriously, how scary is a monster when you can tell him to just go away.

I know thats a small thing but i feel like wishes, when genies are involved, are different than yeah i would like something. Plus we have seen how pedantic this djinn is, so i feel like that distinction should matter to him.

I know this video is several years old but still 6:24 how is the jinn put though the legal system? Im quite sure he dosnt have any kind of presences in any system or i dont know what you call it in the US but in the UK its National Insurance number, he quite literally dosnt exist its almost like he just popped into existence only yesterday. 8:23 snap i said it first (even if i said it 4 years after this video was made) So if the jinn can only be beaten by a woman that is pure of heart where doomed as this meggan has cheated on her boyfriend (that was never born) with a priest there by corrupting a sevent of god, she blasphemes oh and she has murdered one guy and attempted to kill a second (i aren't sure if the jinn counts though) all in all dressing in white and removing piercings dosnt make you pure just look at the kkk they wear white all the time.

For a direct to dvd movie, it's not that bad.

I like the dancing idea, but since he said "Compton-style", they end up just sitting there, listening to the guys demo tape and bobbin' their heads. And the djinn, in that same full make-up, turns to the guard and just deadpan "This is pretty good." And then they're back right where they were and the guard walks off, confused and weirded out but has his demo tape in his hand or something.

I am going to kind of give the movie some credit. The first wish of the casino manager was that of the casino, not himself personally. The second wish was from him personally. So, that must be the logic they are using for the one wish per customer rule. However, a casino is an inanimate place which cannot make wishes, so it should not of been made. That is like a worker at Disney World saying that, "Disney wishes you have the best time here at our wonderful parks!"

I hated the Djinn in this one. In the first one, he was a charmer, he was enjoyable to watch. He's nothing like that in this one. Here he always has some stupid grin on his face, he's sort of hunched over or got his head bowed all the time, he's not sneaky, he's borderline obnoxious. The Djinn in the first one would have had this mission completed in no time. I like the theory that they're all different Djinn (even though this one still has the skin of the original), explaining why the first Djinn was the best and the rest were trash.
