I've marathoned these reviews and just want to say thank you for sparing me the pain of actually having to watch the movies! I watched up to Hellraiser 4 but based on the reviews I read of the others never could bring myself to watch them. Glad you made these comprehensive reviews!

I’m a little confused about Deusdaecon’s feelings on this film. He seems to be keeping his opinion pretty close to the chest.

So it's like what happened to fantastic 4, with a company putting out a terrible movie in order to keep the rights

I heard the director explaining the idea behind this movie in an interview and it sounded like a decent new take but the execution is so hopelessly flawed that it does not, at all, matter what the intentions were.

I have been so hyped to see this review man. I didn't get a chance on Blip.

Personally I thin Clive should take Hellraiser back. Having the Cenobites being a choatic neutral party is pretty good, like they are not a evil slasher monster but a force. If I had my hands on the franchise I would have this be like this. 1, a semi reboot, taking off after the first movie that cuts off all the previous movies making them non cannon. 2. Have the box be used as a sort of initiation into a club. A group of high class, people who bring people who are lost souls in a sense, and tell them that person was selected to join them, even making up the stories of how they were like the lost soul, homeless strung out on drugs and all that, and they were chosen as well. This of course is a lie. They place the lost soul in a large arena, that has clean white tiles and is the bright white. They give the lost soul the box, and tell the person they have as long as they need to open the box, and as long as they do not give up, the lost soul will be apart of their group and they will experience new sensations and be elevated above their old lives. You sum it up the group is using homeless and prostitutes to open the box, so they can watch the cenobites go to work on the lost soul. Since the cenobites clean up after they are done with the main show, with the lost soul still alive (they would have no reason to kill, since that ends the experience) into their world. Long ago one of them opened the box, and in fear for his life told Pinhead he would supply him with people in his stead. Pinhead agreed as long as one was given to them every month, and in return the man would be given riches. The other members of the group he is with is actually Cenobites wearing the skin of old lost souls, making sure the man keeps to his bargain. He not only keeps getting rich, he also is immortal, they also dull his senses, he does not feel pain, nor pleasure. why? To make him want to go back on the deal. Hes not the main character of course hes the villain. The hero is a friend of one of the lost souls (getting the idea of how the title would go yet?) and she is a teenager, yes but not some drug dealing sex nympho. Shes strong smart, and has a strong skeptic head, she does not do anything dumb, and will stare hell in the face and break it down into rational bites, so fear is something that rarely comes into her mind. So to break this down a bit more, she is follows her friend to the initiation area, but is bard to go in cause she was not chosen. She sneaks in and is chased around by cenobites who know she is there. From an outside perspective you see them doing the horror of they show up scare her, and she runs, some do manage to inflict harm on to her, but nothing to bad. At this point her skeptic mind is pretty much gone seeing the things she sees in that building. But shes still rational, not screaming at all, using her mind to keep cool and sneak past the cenobites who are after her. Sadly as I said they know where she is at all times, but they are making it look like shes giving them the slip. Till finally she is confronted with the villain. A man who had his senses, his emotions dulled, and when she arrives, they turn that off. Every thing comes back and he sees her, this cute mousey girl. He just about is ready to grab her, when Pinhead stops him. Saying that what he is feeling is but a small part of a larger scale of what he could feel. He, his mind and body in several forms of ecstasy, agrees. Pinhead smiles and drags the man off, who then comes to his senses but it was too late. As hes dragged off to his world, Our hero, who sadly was just a tool to get the man to agree to be taken, is confronted by pinhead, and her friend, who is bound and is begging to be set free. Pinhead makes an offer to the hero. "Take his place, and you and your friend will not only be spared but will live forever till your desires reach ripen to accept our pleasures. Or leave this place, and your friend come with us." Since she did not open the box, she was in no real harm, even the damage inflicted to her was a mild bruising, not even bloody. They as I said herded her to the mans location. We end with her, wearing fabulous clothes, a sort of Gothic modern Victorian look along side her friend, who is in a similar look with other "friends" around them, which are the victims we see get pulled into the other world. And as the camera pans out title screen of "Hellraiser: lost souls"

You have no idea how right you are about production companies rather burning their unused IPs to the ground than giving them up.

Apparently the film only had a $200,000 budget and they only had $5000 left to offer Doug Bradley. Plus the original director wrote this film and it sounded really good until they changed the script and moved him to work on another film. It was meant to be a story about a bored rich kid who never wanted for nothing and ended up finding the box because he needed more thrills in life.

Not going to lie first time I saw that movie it was on TV and it was already halfway through and I was watching it and I had no clue what was going on until Panhead popped up and even then I was still confused

It is so sad that a horror series that started off so strong turned into a steaming pile of shit, honestly these reviews make me happy that I decided to only watch the first two because those were actually good movies.

Hang on, I know this film is terrible and pointing out issues is like beating up a toddler, BUT who had their face removed if Steven already had all his skin removed? did he get a complete replica of his skin back? and why did Nico end up at the parents house acting horrified when last we saw him he'd escaped and seemed pretty happy. The way they filmed it we were clearly meant to believe opening it partly had let Nico out, but no he apparently just decided to walk all the way there and turned up at the perfect moment for a jump scare.

Something was bugging me about replacement-pinhead's design. Something just made it look way goofier, but I couldn't tell what it was. Then it hit me. Why the actual fuck did they put lipstick on him?

I absolutely HATE that this film was made just to keep the rights. There is SO much potential in this franchise if someone were to lovingly and intelligently and FAITHFULLY make a reboot. I hate to see it die like this.

you know what's a scary thought what if this was someone's introduction to hellraiser what if this was the first hellraiser film or hell what if this was their introduction to Clive Barker and his brilliant works that is far more scary than anything in this movie.

They did it again, but of course, you probably know already. It's still pretty horrible, but I can't really remember much about it except that I was pretty upset from the start and I had to watch it in sections because it couldn't hold my attention. And Doug Bradley is not Pinhead again. It's um... Wow, I really can't remember. I don't want to watch it again either though. Oh, but get this. Check out the IMDB reviews from the audience, there's a couple people calling it the *best* Hellraiser movie. :P

I atleast appreciate that they recognize the fact that the box ALSO gives pleasure from the book. Hell, Before frank was taken, he masturbated because the box gave him ultra sensitivity to his sense. Doesn't forgive the movie though.

And in truth if the original Dude that played Pinhead didn't want to play the part that shouldn't have made this f****** movie

To give this film SOME credit, the gore effects are rather good. And it stays true to the veneer of the Hellraiser mythos, if not the actual spirit. Since Bradley didn't want to return and Dimension had to fast-track the film to meet the rights deadline, it's understandable how it turned out the way it did. And it COULD be argued that it's better than 5, 6, and 7 since it was always intended to be a Hellraiser film. It really angers me how they wasted Ashley Laurence in Hellseeker, who is arguably just as iconic as the Cenobites. Plus, there are some decent performances, particularly from Steven Brand and Tracey Fairaway. Devon Sorvari is also pretty good as the sister. Unfortunately, Bradley is 100% right and the script desperately needed a second pass. And the guy they got for Pinhead just looks goofy. All in all, I'd say they were around 70% there to a bona-fide good Hellraiser film. If Bradley could've been enticed back one more time, the script had had at least one rewrite, and if it had been blocked, lit, and shot as a genuine movie and not a Hallmark special, they might've had a minor hit on their hands.

Too bad it gets worse. I have read that there's supposed to be a TENTH sequel coming out this year, "Hellraiser: Judgement".

It's 1/12/2022. My absolute mixture of pleasure and pain I get from the hellraiser series has me mainlining the whole series of reviews. My love of the first 2 films, the novella, the Scarlette Gospels and Doug Bradley have me trying desperately to carry some water for some of the later films. I find great ideas in all the movies until this one.... most never capitalized on. I can argue that Pinhead could love all forms of pain so the mental torture of hellseeker and inferno are possible. I can appreciate the meta-ish look at Lance Hendrickson doping some kids up and making the kids bad trip balls to fuck with the kids he blames. Again not done well or really capitalized on. BUT THIS IS THE LAST ONE I COULD WATCH! This is the one where they finally stripped the last bit of my goodwill out with the last scraps of hellraiser. I could not watch the last movie made after this one. I know it has some weird angel murder/serial killer shit and a human pinhead so I am done until... no fuck it I'm just done with this series going forward unless I'm ripping on it or watching people rip on it. This guy seems just as sad as I feel about how this series turned out. *sigh* one last review... at least these reviews are good 👍

19:20 - There was no point in it being called "Revelations". It's just a stock final-attempt cash-grab, I guess. And yet it is NEVER a good sign when a movie is subtitled "Revelations". .... The only two good things I remember about this move: 1) the girl playing Steven's sister is hot (although that certainly doesn't help make the incest scene earlier seem any less creepy), and 2) I did like the delivery of Steven's father's line to Nico (after he revealed that it was him wearing Steven's skin, and revealed that Steven's father and Nico's mother had had an affair): "Not you, you little shit!" When he was apologizing about the affair to his wife and not to Nico. ... Sadly, these two minor good points were just about it. I give the movie Hellraiser: Revelations like a 2 out of 10. It's pretty darn bad.
