I really don't think the President was there trying to win a popularity contest. He told people exactly what he believes, and what his goals are for the upcoming year. That is what a SOTU speech usually does. You may not LIKE what he proposes, but he is not trying to make everyone happy. He is sticking with his agenda that he campaigned on when running for President.

Think of comparing the countries with high immigration to those who have tight borders. Is one group economically successful while the other group is poor? Nope. @@purplenights1 Actually, I would like to see those numbers. My bet is most Americans do not like Trump, recognize him for the liar he is, and did not watch the speech in the first place. So who watched it? Trump's racist and misguided base. So, of course the approval numbers are high. His supporters were the majority audience. The rest of us were forced to do what we do anyway...tune Trump out. Of course, that begs the question, why we're his approval numbers not higher? Maybe because his base started filing their tax returns and realized that great tax cut they were supposed to get ain't so great.

What point(s) do you disagree with in this video? Does pointing out the increasing vast economic inequality, which is driving us towards increasing socialism make him a Marxist? I think he left out at least two important points about why China has grown so fast: 1. increasing wages for the world's largest pool of underpaid workers means they're spending more and 2. they have a communist system with almost total control over markets and the 'value' of their currency.

However, I'll just say right now that Wolf, like so many others on all sides of the political spectrum, leaves out anything on the debt money and banking system that we have here in American today as well as in the rest of the world. @@snailer06 ; Ok Bruce; here goes. The vast economic inequality Wolf mentions seems to void out the some 5 million jobs created since Trump's presidency. Sure, some are not at the top of the pay scale, but those in the some 500,000 manufacturing plants came into being as high value jobs. This also speaks contrary to Wolf's statement that 'the capitalist economy hasn't worked well for most Americans." With corp.stock buybacks and salary bonuses for top executives another thing Wolf leaves out is the some 3-7 trillion dollars that has been just sitting offshore, mainly in offshore banks just collecting interest, which are contributory to these buybacks and exec. bonuses. Sure this repatriation of offshore monies qualifies for tax breaks and reduced regs., but again they have been a large factor in the expansion of plants and of high value manufacturing plant jobs which would have otherwise not have happened. To me, this last thing I mentioned is the major part of what Wolf leaves out and misses in this vid. The income inequality, percent growth rate, demonetization of immigrants with scapegoating, USA the envy of the world; all I'd like to deal with in a second comment back to you. Wolf does have it right though, that Trump, unwittingly, has been the biggest booster of socialism which I'd also like to get into further on maybe a 3rd comment back to you. This comment of mine is already long enough and I've found from past experience that the longer the comments get; the entire comment doesn't always come through. @@danzan6951, the Man. Huge subject, but I think smart economies around the world are coming to the realization that they must mix elements from many forms of government. You say the '5 million jobs voids out...', but the reality is that if you're over 50 and you lose your job, you will probably never get a job earning nearly as much as you did. In fact, in my adult lifetime (the last 45 years), the middle class has been decimated while the ultra-rich just get richer. As Dr. Wolff points out that here in the USA, we think we're 'free' but we have very little to no voice as employees (Amazon, I'm looking at you). Giving workers a say in their company may be a Marxist concept, but it sure sounds more 'democratic' than what we have now. The 1% and mega-corporations are really in charge of everything here in America. Seems pretty oligarch-y to me. btw: thanks for the non-ad-hominem reply. (i.e. "your [sic] an idiot").
