Hi and welcome to the craft. Pricing can be a minefield. There are two mistakes some turners make. Charging too little and charging too much. Charging too little does two things, it undermines the craft and it tells clients that you are not confident in your skills. Charging clients too much also does two things, it gives you a bad reputation and you will not have happy clients which neans you will not have returning clients. Not to mention it is just plain wrong. I will give you two examples of turners I know bit I will not name them. There is one who seems to follow me from market to market and who sells at below what it costs to make his items (generally referred to as an anything for a sale turner). He sells the odd thing but not even close to what he should sell. The reasons , he charges too little which does not convey the right message, I also have a couple of personal opinions which I will keep to myself as it is not right to take someone apart without them having a chance to defend themselves. I also know another turner that prices according to what he thinks the piece is worth. This never works as we all think our pieces are worth more than a fair price as we remember the amount of work that goes into them. He rarely sells anything. Don't fall into either trap. Basically what I do is charge based on this simple equation, cost to me including wear and tear on equipment plus and hourly rate and that is how i charge for everything. Never do people.
