Extending the wheelhouse cabin side is a great idea, makes the lines of the boat go from ok to beautiful.

7:10 the upper structure is the flying bridge, anywhere on the roof. A Bridgedeck boat is anything with the engine UNDER the floor, ie the Deck BRIDGES the engine. Alternative is the engine in the room in a box making a Sedan launch. Bear in mind terminology is different for England and North America.

I love the looks of this type of boat. The sorta art-deco look. Fantastic. But for us, wood is a no go. A maintenance nightmare. Kudos to you for your passion. We are probably about the same age. Our next boat will be a trawler. I want to enjoy it not loathe it for being nothing but work.

Peter, First let me say your daughter is just beautiful with such a bubbly personality! I hope you'll add her to the show as often as possible while she visits. Now, I have to tell you how much I loved that little pull out table by your bed. What a great idea! I'm so going to steel it and build one or two for my berth. I always find something great while watching your videos! Just love this channel and all the great ideas and work you offer us each week. My most sincere THANK YOU!

I watch your Chanel for the first time this past weekend. I can’t not watch nothing else and I have not finish. Your an amazing communicator. You always have respect for everything. In each situation you are very positive. I just read all the comments and I agree for the most of them. Thank you to doing that such video. I have nothing else to tell you. Continue...From Quebec.

Peter, I'm loving your plans for the boat, she has character, she deserves to be beautiful. You are so right: The hull and it's integrity are to be at least the top 10 priority's. The next 5 also, and then the all rest follows. You will have your work cut out though if restoring her must ever so slightly match your contribution to your daughter Caitlyn. Greetings from The Netherlands.

There’s nothing wrong with a dose of reality to keep potential owners aware of the work involved with wooden boats. I heard the word “bachelor” a couple times in this video, but come on, there must be a story about ALL those pillows on the bed? Nice visit , nice surprise. Family, sunny sky’s and beer, these are the good times! Cheers, me b’y!

Once again a great video. Nice tour of the boat. Agreeing with the others here on making the lines on the outside better. There are so many smooth lines on this boat but something I'd missing between the big and low part. The topic about the hull hit straight home with me. I bought a wooden boat in February. It looks very nice but I have crawled all over below deck looking for bad wood. So far it looks very promising. A haul out is planned for June. Hopefully that will go well, fingers crossed. Thanks for a good video Peter. Keep e'm coming.

Congrats on a beautiful work in progress. Hundreds of hours cheerfully rolling of the tongue and hundreds more to go. Personally I think your most important lesson is planning and disciplined project management. As for the definition of a bridge deck cruiser - a bridge deck spans the space between the for and aft cabins thus the bridge

How about alternately putting a tabletop in on top of the stove, that can slide out and hang down the side if you don't want it to extend out , that way you can have additional countertop space that is adjustable.

An idea for your sundeck helm seat - fixed box/seat on the center line (storage?icebox?) with a pivoting back rest that allows forward or aft facing support and also provides a stool height brace for standing st the helm

Cracked and broken frames at the turn of the bilge are, as you said, very common. You can sister the frames at those locations. Alternatively you can cut out the broken/cracked wood and laminate in new repairs. That involves cutting scarfs into the frames and laminating in strips with epoxy. The only trick is cleaning up the laminated stack after the epoxy sets. There is nothing wrong with galvanized steel fasteners, but do not change to a different metal below the waterline. With galvanized clench nails I would use galvanized screws for any fasteners I replaced. That has the advantage of maintaining the same metals and galvanized steel screws are a small fraction of the cost of bronze. Bronze is, of course, best for fasteners, but in your case is not an option unless you want to replace ALL the fasteners. I am unfortunately very familiar with these issues because my boat was originally fastened with wrought iron boat nails. Unfortunately a previous owner/owners had the boar refastened with bronze. The result was that the iron nails immediately started to die. I spent months removing iron fasteners (below the waterline), drilling out and bunging the holes and refastening with bronze screws. That was done during reframing. You are very lucky to have yellow cedar planking below the waterline. I wish I had that material. My boat is planked with Douglas Fir, which is hard to get here on the east coast. I look forward to watching you repair the hull. Incidentally, your daughter seems like a delightful person.

Cracked frames at the chine seems to be a normal occurrence. How heavily is she framed? Clinch nailing is good. A quick check to see if the planks are loosening is to stand in front of a door frame and rock the boat side to side. If you see the frame rising as the hull rocks back and forth your plank fastenings are getting tired. I noted this on 1927 Dream Boat I was on and it resulted in me putting two kegs of galvanized screws from shear to garboard to tighten her back up plus several planks and new complete new transom and frame. Sounds like you have a handle on what she needs.

are you going to build storage into the plinth? like some toe kicker type drawers you see on some english narrowboats? an 8 inch deep drawer would be good for storing blankets and stuff maybe especially if your modular setee turns into a bed in one configuration. or it could also be a pantry for canned and dry goods?

Seems kind of counter productive to put the fridge right next to the range/oven. If you put it on the opposite side of the sink, moved the sink closer to the range, and had the drainage area on the stove side, you would have a big air gap for insulating the fridge from the stove heat, and would also create space for putting hot items in/on/near the sink . The metal would also be easier to keep clean from spills and spatters.

Thanks for the very thorough tour of the boat, and its actually great to hear you have so much work to do in the future, as I assume you will allow us to watch as you work your way through your many, many projects! Look forward to it! I've personally decided to undertake renovating an old house for a while, before I attempt another old boat, so I will quench that fire by watching your progress. I have an honest question, though- how is MV Geordie heated? I assume there is some way of warming yourself besides the evening beer? And again, I (we) really love your channel, Peter. Thanks!

What a great video Peter. It's really interesting to hear about the long-term plans and the thought and planning that have gone into the whole project. At times, before, it has seemed a little haphazard (nothing wrong with that either though) but now we have more of an idea of the longer term. Acorn to Arabella recently dismantled Victoria it was shocking to see how badly she had deteriorated pretty much every issue you mentioned but 'to the death' Funny you mentioned Mads ... I am not sure how he would cope with a wooden boat haha, but I mean that in the nicest possible way. Enjoy spending time with Catelyn (sp?) has she broken her wrist? an apprentice boat builder in the making? Oh, forgot to say .. I loved the little slide-out coffee shelf ... brilliant use of space

Something is different with the deck bridge. I'm going to look for the pictures of my uncles. His was 1954' or 55 I believe 45 or 50 foot. Ok the inside is so different. We had a booth style table that folded down with cushions stored underneath that remarkably made into another bed. Lol it also was a 6inch step down from the kitchenette. With a bar!!!

Huh. I watched all the previous videos (or thought I did) but somehow missed the whole thing about Bondo and paint! You’re a better man than I am, Gunga Din! Good point, too, about the wheelhouse door - being a raised pilothouse fan I never really considered how handy that must be for docking. It’ll look REALLY nice when you get the after part of the wheelhouse curved in to the aft/trunk cabin. 7:05 - For what it’s worth I think the flying bridge should henceforth be known as the COHO deck! I’d say you’re fortunate to have a relatively worry-free wet head for now. Any idea what the wood is like under the FRP? Congrats on your progress so far; things are really coming along nicely and, as always, you make it look easy! Looking forward to seeing how you deal with the floors, ribs, planks, and punky wood in general! I remember the episode when you hauled out and did some bottom work and I’d say you have indeed been blessed! Good to see your daughter aboard - she brightens the beer-o-the-week segment considerably! Hope the cast comes off soon!

That picture from the front of an old magazine was a great find ! Looks like there were some big light fixtures hanging on the side where the two cabins meet which makes it difficult to see the structure clearly. I like your idea to re-shape the cabin top in that area but with all the other projects you are talking about that seems a long way off. Looking forward to seeing what you tackle next although I noticed you didn't make any mention of setting up the helm or controls on the boat in the near future, does that mean you are not planning to take it cruising this summer ? It probably would make sense to concentrate on getting the boat nearer to completion really before going cruising but I bet you are feeling a little frustrated about that.
