I turned a tree into a couple of bar stools. If you like what you see, have a look at my Instagram @Kevbotworkshop for a behind the scenes look at this project and other projects
Wedged tenons provided strength, small tolerance of mortise sizing variation and a pleasing aesthetic contrast. All handy attributes for an item in use in a busy area of a home- or workshop. General design appeared robust, functional and aesthetically ok. Impressed with the description, tips and video. Thanks, I look forward to future videos. Gary
Really like the look and craftsmanship of those stools. You have definitely given me some techniques I want to try! Great job on both the project and the video!
I have mad respect for people who use all hand tools. I have enough patience for woodworking but I think my patience has a limit cause hand tools would kill me haha
Well done!! The stool looks great. I'm currently making a stool using floating tenons. Thanks for showing how you made the seat, I"m going to use my router too.
Awesome John! Take your time with the router, I burnt out my old router while working on this project, but it saw a lot of work and it was time for a new one. So no worries this. Wag me on Instagram @kevbotworkshop I'd love to see the final product.!
Thanks Stuff! This is my earliest project so it was done before I had my shop lights. Now that I have them Ill have even better lighting and producing better looking videos. Thanks for watching!
I'm a novice at carpenter. I was trying to make a woodstool, and it was really hard to make a seven degree angle on my leg, but I can understand it after watching this video again and again. Thank you so much. Please post a lot of other things, too.~^^
Hey Kev, there's really creative hacks in here, awesome work! I've got some stools planned for our home, and your router sled idea is perfect for what I need to do. I'm going to add an extra degree of punishment and TURN the legs and spindles as well. Ha. I'll be watching this video again for sure, and I'll check ya on instagram too. Cheers!
Thats awesome!!! Yes the legs and the angles are a little tougher, thats why I practiced with some cheap pine first. Happy Building! Tag me in on instagram with your final result!
You definitively need a bigger band saw. You need a bigger router. You need a large jointer and a belt sander and a big planer. I would even say that you also need decent CNC, a new Domino and a Shaper Origin. I hope new sponsors will line up. Also for a fancy table saw.
Hi Kevin! what is the length of that second router bit that you use for the seat? I think I need to buy one of those for the same reason as you, I want to do that same round seat but my straight bit is to short, like 1 1/4" or less..
yes angles are obnoxious. I made a test out of pine so I could get them right. To help angles should be relatively close for the tilt of the legs and the cross bars.
- VERY, VERY nice pieces. It would be helpful in DIY stool projects, though, to give express directions on how to cut the compound leg end cuts. They're not easy to figure out.
Hello! I am building a stool currently and I ran into the same issue with my legs a little out of whack. When you fixed this did you run just one leg through the table saw blade?
You most likely have to adjust each leg to get it just right. What I did was do the opposite leg first and then work from there. Do a little at a time until you fix the wobble. Cheers
do you have any plans for this project? i'm trying to make my first set and having trouble with the angles and direction of cut for the legs to line up at the same height
I congratulate you for this beautiful work, is there any way to get the plans of these bar stools ?, I would like to make one for my work table, thank you very much !!!
Thank you Valentina! I actually dont have plans for the stools at the moment but will be sure to pass along information to people if I do in the future.
It can be done!!!!! No joke my guy people built stuff without power tools for a long time. Theres plenty of traditional woodworkers on YT. Just takes time and practice and not settling for flaws. I say go for it
I actually don't have plans for these built. At some point I think I am going to make them and then I will get them in a place for people to buy/or download for free.
