Exactly what I needed. My page numbering kept starting at 2 but this video helped me figure out how to start it at 1. (if anyone else is having this problem, go to 2:28 of video.

Page number usually attached on header or footer. To got the age number, uswd Insert tab and click page number format.

Your double spaced example looks like a paper typed in the 1980s. My problem is people who are trying to design graphically complicated documents in word. Something Word was never designed to do. To get different headers different sections have to be applied using section breaks. Page numbering as you explain it will not work if different sections are involved. Each different section’s header/footer then needs to have the page number set up separately. This ends up being very similar to manually adding a text box on each page and putting the page number in that text box manually. Don’t get me wrong, for the kind of document you are creating - and it’s a fine approach - your method is great, and you explained it very well. I’m just frustrated with how others use Word and what they expect from it.

I need to have seven first pages WITHOUT numbers. I have done the "Next Page, Page Break" steps. But still When I remove the numbers on my second half of the book, all the numbers disappear, the first section and the second! Right now, I am pulling my hair!

Okay, here's the deal. I have finished a project and I am TRYING to add page numbers. They go to a certain point okay and then start throwing in numbers at random. I have tried three times. Now there are NO numbers on my project. It's a novel so I don't need sections. Just straight through, 1-??? If all else fails, can I manually add the numbers. I can count a LOT better than Word can, so it seems. I don't know how it goes from 70 to 58. Sorry if I sound irritable but I've done this four times already and it's 5 in the morning.

I do this but the thing just repeats page 2 on page 3-6!

I want to confirm will the page number also print on the page same as it looks on the word?

Now how can I remove a page number without effecting the rest of the page numbers? Because my cover book has page number 0 and i want to remove the page numbers from the cover without affecting the rest.

No matter how many times I have tried to do this I can only get it to number odd pages only...any ideas? Am I missing something here? I am using MS Word 10 non-commercial use - the screen layout looks the same.

Still waiting for a solution to page numbers all being the same even with a ton of page breaks.

Caution, if you want to start with page 1 later in the document you will end up with a blank page insertedin your document that you can't remove without losing your page numbering. This video does not address that prolem.

I have tried your page break solution multiple times! This does does work. I am trying to make page 3 be page 1. Your 0 trick does not help either. Several others struggle with this issue to which you post instructions which do not work. Your video is not helpful and you should be fired from the internet!
