This interview is very special to me! For the last 5 years, I have contracted with wilderness medical staffing to work in some of the most remote areas of clinical medicine- bush Alaska. This interview is all about wilderness medical staffing- what you need to know about working locums as a NP/PA, and everything about working in Alaska.

David great interview, first thing thanks for the referral to WMS it has been a great experience. For those who may be reading the comments WMS has been great, I am one of those providers that has not committed to full time locum work as I still work full time in a busy suburban ED, but still try to do an assignment each month, I started in Montana and expanding to Alaska this summer. Thanks again David and WMS.

Doing the wilderness courses, can emt basic take them? How do you find wilderness jobs after completing the courses?

Hi David, your videos are very helpful. I am considering applying to PA school vs. an Accelerated BSN and then pursuing an NP. I wanted to ask what your advice is on this topic? I like the idea of being able to take on less student loan debt, the ability to have flexibility and experience various specialties, and from a financial standpoint it seems as if most PA's and NP's are making similar income.

Hey Milan! If it were me- I would 1000% choose PA over NP if I had the opportunity (and wanted to do clinical medicine instead of anesthesia)

Would ICU step-down and ICU experience count towards "emergency experience"? I'm a new-grad RN on an ICU step-down unit and am working to get my WFR cert and get more experience in the backcountry.
