Wow Mark, you do awesome work, I plan to take 2 years on my 701 and strive to at least come close to your talent. Thanks for the inspiration to try and do the same.

That paint scheme Looks awesome. Always looking forward to seeing you next video. For things like the light mount on the rudder, I like to use silicone sealant/adhesive to hold things from moving around/chafing. It does a good job of securing it, and it's easy to peel off for maintenance. I'd probably just use a small amount (so it doesn't squeeze out and can't be seen) at the top of the bracket, but low from the edge, near the light. With none on the bottom of the bracket, any water ingress could drain out easily; and with none near the screw removing the light for maintenance would be easier.

Excellent advice 👍 … I’d probably ‘wet install’ the screw with that silicone sealant as well. Yeah it’s messy and would require a little careful ‘clean up’ afterwards but it would prevent water ingress via the screw hole as the faring expands during summer’s heat.

Hi Mark. Can you do a video on how you did the checkers? Yours looks great!

The reason your small parts come out better than the wings is that you manage how much material you put down better on the smaller piece. Getting long, smooth, and consistent overlapping application over a larger area is much more difficult. Large pieces also require more precise gun setup as how the material is spread across the entire width of the fan plays a big role in outcome. The single biggest improvement in my ability to lay down good paint came from having a expert show me exactly how to match my gun settings to the environment I was spraying in, the material I was laying down, and the application technique I was using along with the capabilities of my air source.

G,day Mark from Sydney Australia. Any possibility of seeing the efficiency of the exhaust fan in the spray booth? If it's removing the overspray. 🌏🇭🇲

You've put a lot of work into the tail and it shows. I like the fully checkered tail. Thanks for the continuing excellence in the quality of your videos.

Very nice. Do you have a video of how you painted the checkered pattern? Also, where did you get the tail beacon fairing?
@KitplaneEnthusiast
@KitplaneEnthusiast 11 месяцев назад
The checkers are vinyl. There's no way I could paint that without it looking like crap. The tail light fairing is available from Zenith Aircraft.

Mark, what are you using to "cut" the vinyl lettering/ graphics that you are placing placards etc. on your airplane with?

When I installed Knots2U fairings on my old Cherokee, we used rivnuts. Are all of your fairings installed with machine screws into the skin?

You just mentioned spritzing the paint, and it looked better. You know that you can change nozzles to apply less paint. I always had a test surface to shoot at and sometimes a third or fourth coat. Most of the time, 4 coats. Taught my son, now he works for Duncan Aviation. It truly is an art, there's always wetsanding, boy we've done plenty of that. Keep up the great work 👍

It's moot, but I thought and still think that the alternate tail covering idea was very nice. So, pfbbbbst! LOL 😄 By the way, I think that two additional screws on each side of the tail light fairing would be wise. Sheet metal fairing screws on airplanes tend to vibrate loose in time, especially after you have removed them a few times for wiring inspection and maintenance.
@KitplaneEnthusiast
@KitplaneEnthusiast 11 месяцев назад
I already decided to add the other screws because with the one screw per side it moves just slightly. I don't want it to vibrate and slowly wear off the paint or cause any damage from the vibration.

Dude what can I say? I'm the world's most awesome painter! HAHA!! If you've seen my other videos you'd know I suck at painting. I painted the rudder yellow and then cut the black squares out of vinyl. So...they are stickers.

Mark, do you think it is safe to store a Zenith Super Duty outside IF I make fairings like you make, seal all the gaps with special window sealer and keep it covered with professional, custom made covers (such as Bruce's Custom Covers)?
@KitplaneEnthusiast
@KitplaneEnthusiast 11 месяцев назад
Safe? Sure. But like any airplane rain will get inside, wind will beat it up, and the sun will fade the paint. Nothing you can do about that if the airplane is outside. But it's an aluminum airplane and can certainly survive outside. Just try to seal it off as best you can.

"Aerial Surveillance Squadron" wouldn't have been... British enough, in terms of the spelling of the acronym. It would have needed to be something like "Aerial Reconnaissance and Signals Executive" I'll show myself out.
