The U.S. manages foreign assistance programs in more than 100 countries around the world through 20 different U.S. government agencies. These agencies, such as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), fund and organize programs with the aim to promote global security, sustainable societies, poverty reduction and economic growth. They are often employed in regions that are underdeveloped or have experienced conflict. The questions pertaining to Jade Wu's story included: How effective are these programs, particularly in regions working to resolve or recover from conflict?
