World of Warships - USS Worcester 

My grandfather was a boiler room chief on the USS Worcester. Served on her for the entire duration of the ships life. They stopped having reunions a few years ago because almost every other sailor that served on her is dead now

i think the rapid rise in performance and availability of surface to air missiles as well as the performance of jet aircraft in the 50ths contributed to the short service life of this class.

Roanoke, the town, has a fascinating history jingles. First English colony in Virginia, even before Jamestown. Lasted a few years, and then one day the supply ships show up, and the town is completely deserted, and no one has ever figured out what the hell happened.

Besides hiding behind cover and raining hell on anyone who comes near a given cap circle, it seems like this type of ship would also be very good at screening a carrier or a battleship against air attack, and ambushing destroyers as well as using their excellent radar to help a friendly battleship or heavy cruiser spot targets in concealment.

I am relatively new to this channel and the game, but I would like to say, I do love the historical bits in your videos. My grandfather served on this ship in the Mediterranean Sea, not during the Korean War. This one certainly brings back memories of the stories he would tell me, as a child, of his time in the US Navy. Thank you for this.

Ya but how does this ship do when there's no CV's? We all know that when you take your AA spec US Cruiser into the line up there's no CV's... and when you take your IJN destroyer into battle there's 2 CV's and they always find you! :P

Lived in Massachusetts and a major city there was Worcester, MA. So happy to hear Jingles pronounce it correctly, good man.

Jingles is by far the best Wargaming contributor! He may not be the best at playing infact he's very average, but his presentation and humour is second to none. He keeps you interested and wanting more. Keep up the good work Jingles. :)

Just for the record, the Worcester class was not a post WW2 design as Jingles states. They were designed during the war and though only two were completed, after the war, three were laid down, in January, May, and July of 1945, before the end of the war.

My dad served on this ship during the Korean war and always referred to it as the "Rooster"! Which was then corrupted to the common name of male chickens! It's superstructure was made of aluminum in an effort to cut down on top weight, but because of corrosion problems was not considered a success at the time. Later the use of aluminum in ships again came under criticism, when it was proven to be highly flammable after a hit by anti-ship missiles.

Dear Jingles, I wanted to thank you for showing me when and how to use AP when fighting enemy cruisers. It manged to net me a kill that I otherwise would not have, because you reminded me, if you have a flat shell trajectory, load the AP and, hammer the belt.

Roanoke is pronounced with 3 syllables. Ro-uh-noak I only mention because you said something about pronunciation. I usually try my best to pronounce places and region specific words as the locals who live there do rather than what I think it is spelled. There are plenty of places out there that will confuse you for sure if you go by spelling. lol

Jingles, I believe it is pronounced phonetically (row-en-oak) or (row-en-owe). Usn had an Auxiliary of the same name that I sailed alongside during the 80's. Love your channel, keep up the good work!

What a shame that the proposed piecrete aircraft carrier ((of which there was an prototype built)) will apparently never be in the game....very very sad......😂

I'm from the Western Part of the State (read: Folks from Worcester east to Boston think dragons reside out here, but I digress) and HATE when names of our cities are murdered by others. And, the Des Moines class ABSOLUTELY embarrassed the Worcester and the Roanoke (say it with me Jingles: Row-an-Oak; see? Not that difficult) in shore bombardment. And, btw, the USMC STILL has the ANGLICO detachment who's sole function is naval gunfire support. And AWESOME to see another historical ship video! You and Rita should visit Fall River Mass to see the USS Massachusetts and the USS Kennedy (Gearing Class destroyer). Not only are the ships fascinating, but, Rita will feel right at home, as Fall River has a HUGE Portuguese population- the food and the people are great! Cheers!

I hope the attention given to US cruisers translates to the Battleships too. Right now USN Battleships are not really in a good place until like tier 7. I would also love to see the Alaska class in the game. I lived in Buffalo, New York and got to see the Cleveland class cruiser there and it was such a good looking ship and bigger than I was expecting (and, probably, much bigger looking to my 14 y/o self). Then I read about US ships in WWII and the Alaska and Guam were pretty interesting designs. Essentially battlecruisers, but they were classified as Large Cruisers because they were designed to protect CVs primarily instead of seeking surface engagements. They were quite large but also fast and looked pretty cool from the side, kind of streamlined. Unfortunately, neither survive today, they both got scrapped. This is pretty much anyone's only opportunity to see them and, considering the strength of faster battleship and battlecruiser type ships, they should be a fairly powerful ship and a welcome change from the standard USN battleships (along with their "standard" speed).

I live in Austin, TX. Yesterday I had a gentleman come into my shop who lives an hour or so from Worcester, MA. I asked him how he pronounces it and he said ‘Wirster’, but also said even as close as Boston the pronunciation is noticeably different.

Life is not going to be the same anymore after learning how to pronounce "Worcester". Thanks Jingles!

I was in a game, happily sailing around in my Gearing, but suddenly a Worcester and a pair of Minotaurs appeared about 10km away. It’s fair to say that I shat myself a little bit...

"English is a funny language". Indeed it is. Its one of those languages where you pack too much meaning into a phrase much like one packs a score of sad make-up enthusiasts into a clowncar.

I'm not sure I'd call the US light cruisers selfish, you can lock down a cap zone incredibly hard with the radar access and blistering rate of fire on those HE shells. The fire starting potential alone is enough to get battleships to want to get the hell outa range, and IFHE just makes that even worse. Not to mention in a CV game you can easily protect any friendly DD near you from being lit up by the carrier unless he's desperate enough to get that DD killed to throw entire squads worth of planes away to achieve it

For real fun, get them to pronounce Magdalene...

I love both American and British Cruisers, I was a great fan of Battleships, but god cruisers are so fun, I'm not the best as I'm a injured Veteran, love WOWS Asia server, but love to see more Australian Battleships and Cruisers, but only the Perth to play with, love your channel Jingles, lol, Cheers from DownUnder

My grandpa was in the navy and on that ship. I have his card certifying it. Really wish I could get a model of it to display in his memory.

With a concealment build captain you can drop down to 9.5 km concealment. There are destroyers that don't have that stealth. You're right jingles none of them do

Jingles!!! Worcester has similar gun setup as Minotaur, but in likeness, the ship is very similar to USS Des Moines. Put em' next to each other and see how similar they are. :)

Jingles, you would be surprised how much of that shielding is being used to this day here at Fermilab. If you are ever in the Chicago area, you must come out for a video or two.

My battle tactics with battleships and cruisers pretty much consist of picking a course that takes me out wide enough that I can put islands between me and the opposing force while running at full power and firing broadsides only turning to keep all my guns locked on target. I also will close with a enemy and just fire spread after spread into their ship.

Roanoke is a port city famous for its wooden canoes made with local white oak. "Rowin' oak" become the battle cry during the war of 1812. The British occupied the city of Camptown VA. When Calvin Coolidge liberated the city, he renamed it Roanoke. PRONOUNCED "rowin' oak.

As for ideas for a premium tier 10 overpowered carrier, they should look at simply upgraded premium versions of the existing tier 10's that allow the fighter aircraft to target ships with rocket barrages (like maybe 1/3 or 1/4 as effective as a dive bomber squadron in terms of damage but a high chance of starting fires) and then boost the dive and torpedo bombers to have somewhat more survivability against AA and the ability to return moderate damage against fighter squadrons that attack them. As far as the ships themelves, they remain identical to the standard version of the class, just with an advanced airgroup. I don't know about real life examples of this for other navies, but with the USN there was frequent use of rocket armed fighters to attack surface ships and as far as advanced torpedo and dive bombers that can do a decent job holding their own against fighters, it would be the A-1 Skyraider, which was extremely tough aircraft that could tank some damage, could do dive and torpedo bombing (and could carry more torpedoes and heavy bombs than previous carrier bombers) with ease, and amazingly enough, when no longer carrying heavy bombs and torpedoes they could actually dogfight with fighters pretty well, in fact a couple of them even managed to shoot down jet fighters in Vietnam.

Thank you Jingles, if I had to here one more War-Chester or Worc-ester I was gonna blow my brains out. And then you said Rowan-oakey and I died a little. (It's Rowan-oak I believe ;), don't ever change Jingles.)

To make this ship capable of firing in the open with no cover, WG could Make it move like a Destroyer. Destroyers are hard to hit because there fast and small. But Cruisers are some what easy for there a good size and are kinda slower on the turn. If you make the US CL Line capable of moving like a Destroyer, they could be able to fight at long ranges, provided that they get a range buff and long with a Huge speed buff on the shells velocity.

Worcester (like all US heavy cruisers of the time) had large manning requirements (1400 men). So that's one very expensive ship to run if its not going to outperform ships like the Belfast (800 men when not acting as flagship).

As someone that used to live in Leicester Mass (the town next to Worcester), I can say that he pronounced Worcester correctly.

Fermilab is a really cool place! I’ve been there a couple times and my aunt and uncle live across the street from it. They have a herd of free-roaming buffalo on the grounds 😂

Having a fast reload and fire rate helps with the data and of the fire it can put out and the damage it can do and the chanse of damage with HA, AP, over pens and shatters and will be easier to change them to the stats it should have on the live servers.
