Hi Julian. I'm so glad I found this since I used to follow you in the days of Fast Fours and Rotaries with your Liberty RS Turbo. I am in the process of building a similar design and am aligned in your thinking on the design. My plan is for 4 wheel stands with the ability to remove the 'ramp' section to get it out of the way altogether after jacking the rear. Hopefully it will be worth the extra effort.
What about having additional “cubes” for the rear instead of axle stands. Then have the ramps removable and the vehicle sitting on four cubes? Much more freedom of movement.
Sorry, I can't se how it would work. If you had the cubes arranged the wheelbase distance apart, then the car would drive up onto the four cubes (albeit using a much longer total ramp length than the design covered in the video) and then the intervening ramps could be removed. But how could you do that if the cube spacing didn't match the wheelbase?
Thank you for the nice Video, I bought your book and wanted to recreate the Car ramp. I still have a question about Marine plywood, is there another alternative such as plywood (Exterior) it seems to be cooked for the same 72 hours (WATER BOILING POINT). The reason why I ask this is because Marine plywood (MAR) is extremely expensive in The Netherlands. Don't get me wrong I don't want the Car to fall through the wood, but otherwise I have to take a heavier option and use angle iron to be able to drive over it. Greetings from the Netherlands Akko
That's an interesting question. When I first built the ramps I used a lower grade of plywood and when testing with a 2 tonne vehicle, it broke (the wheel cracked the plywood when it was first driven on). Therefore, I suggest you buy a small piece and see if it is strong enough with a heavy test vehicle.
