Tom's fast technical punch, which is apparently extremely repeatable too, is pretty much as powerful as Eddie running into a Hail Mary. That is pretty scary.

Eddie is throwing his whole body into it where as the rest are throwing punches like they would in a fight so they are in position and not off balance. Eddie nearly headbutts the machine.

Rico scoring hi in the jab makes sense. Hes a precision striker chipping away for the KO (when he gets them) rather than loading up and trying to time a big overhand.

These machines have always been the same. A light sensor that measures how fast it passes through. The faster you send it on an upward arc, the higher it will score. That's why most people punch high and down through the bottom edge of the ball. It doesn't measure power, it measures angular momentum.

Punch downwards to make the ball fling up faster gives you a much higher score than straight punches

Respect to Eddie for making the distinction between raw strength and the other skills you need in fight. Absolutely MAD power you have Eddie. Really fun video to watch. As a person with martial arts background, I found the results very interesting and validating. If you do the math and compare the power to weight ratio of Eddie to Rico (highest personal score on the machine divided by the weight of the person) you can see the effects of training quite clearly: Eddie -> 901/170 = 5.3 Rico -> 875/116 = 7.5 That means if you master your speed and technique to the level that Rico has, whatever your untrained strength is, you could see up to a 41% improvement in your power with training. Good to know.

I'm already a longtime mma and strongman fan but this video makes me want to get into kickboxing too. Both of those guys are insane. The smaller guy is faster than the lightning and the big guy puts up almost the best kick with pure technique looking like he's putting in like 30%

These punch machines work by using a light sensor. When you hit the bag it flies up into the machine going past a sensor that reads how fast the bag moves past it

It's cool to see these guys hit the thing. Wouldn't want to get hit by any of them. Rico's explosiveness is lovely! I'm no expert, but I think having the total of energy going "straight" on the ball will benefit, instead of going in any form of angle. Any deviation will be slower in it's trajectory upwards. As far as I am aware, fighters don't train to go "straight", but to hit a person properly.

Very inspiring . I know how I will be kicking The Boxing Machine next time I see one ! I have seen or heard some awesome punchers play with these things ! I think the bell rings when an Athlete scores 1 000 . But that happens on a Saturday Night in The Club I can't get in ! Soldiers seem to be extremely good at punching those things. Plus there was a guy in The Rock Club who was pretty good at it . I thought of an awesome way to kick it.

Eddies comment about fighting was very true. As someone who haven't trained fighting you may still have a good power in your hits. But in any real fight you're happy if you get to throw one punch before being totally clobbered. As a kid my father wanted me to go train boxing. To encourage me a bit as I was uninterested he got some gloves and sparring protection and tried to train me a bit. Turned out I had a punch and he stopped trying to train me after I nearly broke his arm as I hit the pads he was matching me with. But that was the end of it, I could hit but I had no sense of how to move or use my hands as protection, and no way in hell was I going to go to a club and risk someone would punch me in the face. The idea of a sport where the intention is to punch your opponent out just seemed wrong to me. But knowing how to punch was remarkably often all needed to get guy's to back down. One time at school there were some guys from a higher class that thought hassling the new kids at school was fun, and they went after me. I turned to the wall and punched my hand through some kind of board, turned back and just looked at them and for some reason they thought it was a good time to walk off. I had to show some similar stunts but through out school or my teen years I never threw a punch at someone and I never got hassled. I wasn't popular but they thought I would be to much of a problem so they let me and my friends be. unconscious

Eddie, next time you try one of these machines try punching slightly downward on the bag. You can take advantage of the mechanical swing of the pivot to max out the machine no problem.
