Worlds first? Hey now lol I been running this guy for a month now with the Canformance box… Though I am xDrive so I suppose I would be 8HP45X. Either way congrats on another conversion I’m sure you’ll work the bugs out although that electrical issue is interesting. One thing I think that needs to be explained is the AT diff ratio for the 335 at least is 3.46 (MT 3.08) Where as most 8HP equipped cars will come with a 3.08. This pretty much renders 1st gear useless in this application but places 2nd gear in a very nice sweet spot for launches somewhere in between the 6HP’s 1st/2nd. I will get a short video up now cuz internet proofz lol
Awww man, i totally for got about your car and it was only last week we were talking about tuning. I better update my title haha. However please do some vids on your setup, experience with cantcu and i will link them to our viewers. Might help others know of different options out there.
Secondly i have been a defender of 1st gear launches with our high power cars. And even our flowmax twin turbo car is faster is launching in 1st with the 8hp. On the street this is. 2nd gear with transbrake will just blow the semi slicks off and result in a 100m skid. Or if i brake boost second it crawls away and makes boost (15psi limited) at about 20kmh in second and promtly blows the tyres off. However in first with boost limited to 10psi, it will get enough inetira and weight transfer to keep the tyres planted as it engages second. 1st gear starts feel like a low 3 second 0-100 dragy with the 8hp. However havnet tested it properly yet. But definitely faster than second gear. My 17t car was also always slower starting in 2nd, that car was around 700hp, but just can't put the power down from a second gear start, to much torque on a street surface, and if you wind the power down to hook, its too slow. I actually think the stock 3.46 diff ration works really well. You wont use first for normal driving, but a stock 8hp car doesnt use first either and at highway speeds the motor is sitting at 2000rpm, which is less than my DCT car with stock DCT diff.
@@ZeroTo60Tube I guess I’m a bit spoiled with xDrive lol. I am on 17T’s but turned down quite a bit right now getting things dialed in. I can only get on the converter for maybe 1 second before I have too much boost to leave the line in 2nd gear. With AWD I have always kind of relied on only having “sporty” tires to act as the shear pin for my fragile front end drivetrain bits. The run is never totally ruined if you don’t get the start perfect for me. I find the 8hp 2nd to be a very happy medium between the 6hp 1-2 so far. Hopefully I will get back to the drag strip soon to see the improvement over last years times with no changes other than 8HP swap. I can say my 60ft times will be much better for sure. I did post a short video earlier but I am no RU-vidr lol… Looking forward to more updates on the flowmax car but sounds like there is a lot going on there.
@@wancsta Ahhhh yes, yes, i would love an xdrive setup. Stupid steering coloums on our RHD cars. What sort of 60fts were you doing the 6at if you dont mind me asking?
@@ZeroTo60Tube 1.9x for the most part. Hoping to see 1.7’s now. It was a coin toss with how the 6HP was going to screw me each time lol. Launch in 1st and it’s blow the tires off and kill timing in 2nd with the clunky shift. Or launch in 2nd sluggishly keeping the power down because if it saw too much clutch slip it would auto upshift to 3rd early like 4500rpm. Anyways 8HP is a welcome change best mod by far. Would be nice if you got your hands on a N54 with xDrive over there. Did the E60’s get it? Or maybe even go next level and start doing xDrive swaps on the channel lol
I feel you on the rain. We've been getting our fair share of that here too lately. I actually just bought my first N54 car. I snagged a E60 535I. Its FBO and has 19T's. I had to drive over Snoqualmie Pass on the way home and hit some crazy rain. That was absolutely the least fun I've had driving in a long time.... and I had just spent a lot of time stuck in stupid Seattle traffic. lol
@Splash Good luck! I was looking for an E92 originally. They were hard to find in serviceable condition for a reasonable price. E90's were easier though and typically a little cheaper. Over in your area they're easier to come by than the east side of the state.
I've seen that electrical failure warning before on 1 series. Sometimes the TPMS module shorts out and causes a lot of problems. If you shake the TPMS and it rattles then that might be your problem. It's behind the rear left wheel (driver side for an LHD car)
The money will be in the 79 series Toyota conversions. Suggest you collaborate with Zone Off Road South Africa, as they seem to be one step ahead of you and about to export conversions kits here to Oz. They have test drive mules, done the shifter, electronics etc. Don't know how they got around the flex-plate balance issue?
Not sure how they have done the flex plate. Mind you they are using a different transmission and controller. So end result will be a different driving experience not to mention ours does provide more control over the trans.
Been watching these turbolamik rather keenly I'm considering trying this in my e39 540i would you have any information on it or maybe you would consider doing one yourself
I'm assuming you can use the torque converter that comes with the 8hp45 without any modification on a e92 2006. Not sure if its the 6 bolt or 8 bolt. Also do you need the adapters for the oil lines?
i know someone who swapped 8hp45 for 8hp75 and the thing ran on the 8hp45 tune, not perfect but it works. have to shift it manually. the 45 drives much more smooth,, feels better, just is weak. i actually drove my e92 with the 8hp45 with htg unit and couldnt get the htg to work, thats how i found out about the great migration of customers over to lamik becasue htg didnt have open loop adaptations at the time, lamik did so i followed suit.
Great stuff…….and stuff this rain 🌧. Enjoy your videos immensely. Had issues with my beastie and ended solving it after two days of head scratching. The 28th looks good so hope to do some PBs at Willowbank. Hope you solve these issues. Brilliant content 👍😎
A nice video but a lot of rain...happily no tears - i was like all the time: please dont hit any of the e39😅 I'm glad it works and it really seems like super smooth! I'm curious what will be the fix for the autoshift. However I'd have tried to bring it into adaptation mode but probably it doesn't come up due to false torque calculations? Maybe the reason for missing Auto upshift too? Oh and thank you for showing the test result with the epoxy, was about to ask you on messenger 😅 ...BTW I'm curious where all the other lamik controllers will go😁
So ZF rate them at 450nm vs 700nm for the 8hp70. However we know generally the boxes will take more than ZF rate them for. To be safe, i wouldnt expect it to hold any more power than a 6HP21. However at the back of my mind, i would also like to run 800hp through one.
Amazing work brother by the way what software are you using to tune BMW HP tuners does not give us support for BMW and that's all I have any recommendations i Tune LS engines but just got into the BMW game
MHD is the only way to go with N54s, the later model cars have a few options, but from what i learn speaking to various tuners. MHD or ECUtek is the way to go.
This looks like what I will be doing to my 6AT car. Do you think the Lamik controller would be able to control the trans while using a 3,000-4,000 rpm stall converter? Or will there be a software limitation on the oem TCU side of things?
So with the lamik there is no limitation. Which is what makes it good. Any reason you want such a high stall? With all the gear ratios you dont need to launch from such a high RPM to get them off the line on power.
@@ZeroTo60Tube That’s great to know. It is a ST car so I want the high stall to launch while under boost. Looking at a PDS built 8hp45 with their high stall converter if it’s possible to keep the car happy while using it. Otherwise I’ll use a regular 8hp45 converter
@@guillermolopez1690 the jaguar 3.0sc converters should fit according to my sources and they are said to be one of the highest oem stalling converters too
@@guillermolopez1690 Ahhh yes, if you have a decent single that makes sense. My concern is you will end up needing to start in 3rd or 4th. This is just a vague incorrect example but the torque multiplication of 1st gear means, you could launch at 2000rpm with 5psi and have more torque making it to the wheels than 3rd gear 4000rpm and 15psi. This is something i really want to play with with the 8hp. Its different if you have a good prepped track. Just hit the rear tyres with all the power you can from the get go, but most of the time we dont have that surface. Our powerglide car would launch at 45000rpm, on 15psi and it would dead hook on a prepped track. But with that setup on the street, the car slower than a stock N54, becuase you either leave the line with no power and slipping converter, or you will blow the tyres off as soon as the converter bites at the high stall point. The 8 gears, really open you up to a new way of thinking with how to get the cars off the line quickly. With so many ratios, there is no excuse to be bogging off the line. Our flowmax car on the street, is fastest launching in 1st with less boost than the transbrake and 10psi. Becuase even with tyres that hook better than ET Street Rs, the car will just do a massive burnout with a 3000rpm launch at 10psi. Just something to keep in mind. The days of only setting the car up for a prepped track are done, i want something that will work on the street, or be able to flick a switch and different agression for hit and dial it in while on the street. A good place to start with research if people will share the info is how people launch the Hellcats between track and street. Mind you i bet anyone thats worked out how to make them quick in both scenarios my not share.
You would need to go a 8hp70 for that weapon. But a 8hp70 from a F series 5 series diesel will bolt in to your car too. Basically the trans i put in our flow max car would be bolt in for you.
Im thinking of moving back to the UK to get some decent weather. LOL. Dont get me wrong, its not cold here, but its damp, humid, mould growing on everything. Australia is not made for this much water to be falling from the sky for so long.
Hi I’ve been watching your channel for such a long time! I truly wish if there is a way to get in touch with you regarding my 19t turbo N54! Just cannot figure out an issue. Please let me know a college kid truly desperate to figure it out as it’s my daily 🙏🏽
Hey Haris, always feel free to post a comment. Alternatively the zeroto60 paid chat is where i will spend time helping people fix specific issues. I am sure you can appreciate i can hundreds of messages some days, so i have to dedicate time to the poeple that help zeroto60.
@@southsiden546 there should be a join button in every video description. The G members, the zeroto60 chat are a huge difference to us being able to afford to do this and all proper petrol heads.
No argument here. But it is easy to read and easy to hit. Not unhappy with it, for what it costs, but would pay more money for a newer style OLED display
That's interesting, the controller is Polish. Which has been around for quite a few years. But i haven seen a 8hp45 in a 135i. Got some info on the ones you have seen, like what controller they are using etc?
