“More educational Strongman stuff”? Absolutely. Like another comment said. The silly stuff is fun but your best content is always Strongman training related. 🔥 I -always- learn something new with this type of video.
You should do a video on common strongman injuries and explain the biomechanics behind them. Hopefully you can help me understand my own bicep rupture a bit better
stones for me was my first bicep tear. towards the end of the session and grip and chest squeeze started to fatigue causing the stone to slip slightly on the pickup and me not wanting to drop it tried to almost curl it back up into my chest and boom bye bye bicep
Ditto, I'd love to hear how to address lifting and lifting heavy after hernia surgery. Same with small sprained muscles (I was bloated after surgery and had a hard cough and pop!) since I currently have both at the same time. Not mention its common in not just older guys but people who lift or are athletic in general. Wish I could say I was doing some crazy ass weight but sadly it was just a combo of stupidity, neglect, and age.
I have always wondered if it is from lack of training the bicep compared to training the rest of the body. It seems like strongpeople try to avoid using the bicep because of the fear of tearing it leaving it out of balance in strength compared to the rest of the body.
I wonder if we'll ever see a "raw" stone event in a comp. Either absolutely no assistance or maybe just tacky. Not saying I have any preference or opinion on whether it should be done but I wonder how it would affect the overall standings if you took ten guys and did with/without.
probably not, with the level of strength these guys have a heavy stone run without tacky would be hell on their biceps and pecs. it would be way too dangerous
Honestly I'd prefer they do something we've seen in a couple of the Strength Unknown vidoes - allow the stones to be lifted with the help of a cloth ring. I think it kind of eliminates the need to stick to the stone as much because it gives you leverage to squeeze. If everyone uses the same equipment there is less weirdness about someone getting tacky wrong.
This is an amazing video to see this kind of “behind the scenes” details of not only what you do but also how strongman works. This is so great to see! 👍 Anyone trying to get into strongman will get a lot from this!
😂 I always think the same thing when I Edie hall use it in a title. It’s one thing if it’s recent. But when it’s close to a decade past it seems tacky. But just my opinion. I’m not sure if other strongman have an issue with it or not
If you want something less oily than wd-40, generally isopropyl alcohol is a good option for getting pine sap off your hands, I bet it would work for tacky and not leave your with a pile of oily rags.
I train this movement with circular(ish) sandbags. I hate making a mess, soooo I think I'll never transition to actual atlas stones 😂 I'm jealous of the zero slip, though
That has to require a massive cleanup effort with the tacky sticking to everything it comes in contact with. I used to own a water proofing company and we used WD-40 all the time to dilute the the strong blue epoxy and flashing tar on our arms and hands.
Damn that's a lot of extra stuff you need to compete in stones. Has there been a history of the organizations regulating what kind of tacky and support items like the shirt can be used? I wonder if it was controversial in the beginning to use them.
The issue I've had doing stones is on the lift from my lap, I find the stone is "backspinning" as I go to extend. I take it it's a case of squeeze into your chest harder?
From the WD40 Material Safety Data sheet on page 4, under paragraph # 11 Toxicological Information, "Skin Contact: Prolonged and/or repeated contact may produce mild irritation and defatting with possible dermatitis.".......so make sure to wash all of your skin with soap and water thoroughly after wards! (and dont get in your eyes or breath it in)
I know Shane Jerman is using something other stone sleeves I know it's a tape but I heard alot of athletes are using his method can't remember the name of the stuff
IKR the stress when people rush you and you dont want to get tacky on your giants live trophy 😅 yeah thats really sucks man, we can relate.... right guys? ... right? 😅
Great video but I have to wonder if the same thing couldn’t be accomplished by just using a towel to wipe off the arms before applying tacky? If that didn’t do the trick I wonder if antiperspirant would cut down on the sweating
@mitchellhooperstrongman I might be an idiot but it seems to me it shouldn't be that difficult to custom make some sleeves that a) fits your arms better and are tightened maybe with like a corset-type lacing on the outside of the forearm, and b) are made out of a stiffer material that is less likely to be pulled down and bunch up. Something you have considered?
What brand of atlas stones are these? They look a little different than a lot of the normal concrete molds out there. Love the video and content. Thanks so much!! 🫎
This video hits at the absolute perfect time for me. I'm looking to compete in my first strongman comp and the first time I touch stones will be tomorrow morning. This educational stuff you do is extremely valuable for us aspiring competitors. Who better to learn from than someone with absolutely no weaknesses? Huge thanks, Moose! .........(Moose droppings, did I do it right?)
Okay, I have a genuine question for anyone out there. Why do strongmen insist on using tacky, istead of carving a handle into the stone or using a strap to help hold on? What is the advantage to tacky? Cause what I see is other sports that specialize in stone lifting using handles and straps and absolutely trouncing even the top strongmen while weighing a fraction of the weight. I've seen a 105kg man shoulder a 230kg atlas stone without tacky by using a strap, I've seen dudes equal size should a 100kg stone for 1000 reps by using a handle. Then you get to strongman and their stone performance is based more off of the temperature of the room and how their tacky is mixed rather than their actual strength. And even dudes at the top can hardly train stones more than once a week cause it beats you up so much when if you use a strap or handle you can train them 5,6,7x weekly and be fine.
No concerns among you, your wife, or your team with the structural integrity of the garage floor and if it will be compromised by the repeated impact of the stones? I know how garage floors are built in Alberta, but don’t know if it’s different in Ontario. In Alberta, there are concrete piles drilled into the ground when the foundation created, and the tops of the concrete piles are exposed so the garage floor will connect to the piles when pouring the floor. This is done as the ground inevitably settles beneath the concrete and you end up with hollow pockets underneath the garage floor, and it’s held up by the concrete piles. Just a hunch I’m operating on because I was least experienced on the crew I worked with, but I’m worried that one day that corner of the garage will turn into a crater. Best to have an engineer assess your set up to make sure it’s not damaged.
whenever i have to do mechanic work and my hands are covered in grease and road grime, i have to poop. i would hate to get a code brown with tacky applied
NFL receivers use to use that tacky type of stuff to help catch the Ball but it was banned.... The sticky stuff got on the Balls and couldn't come off.... So they refs had to change them with a new ball after each receiving play
Would you consider other solvents for removing tacky? My grandpa used to rinse with gasoline to get all the gunk from working on his truck (mainly oil and grease) off. The few times I've needed to clean off, it's worked like a charm. Just a quick wash with soap & water afterwards and you're golden.
To the backyard strongman: You dont need all that gear to do stones. It helps but isnt required. I rep a homemade 225lb stone shirtless without tacky or gear. If you want to youll find a way.
At first when you said, “let’s pretend like we are by ourselves” I misheard you and thought you were calling out a strongman for having no friends and naming someone. Had to replay a few times. Hahaha
Have you tried skin tac wipes? I use them to attach my glucose monitor to my arm. I am a big sweater as well and you apply the wipe prior to the adhesive tape. It seems to help a ton.
