The only one of these I am guilty of is entering the house through the garage. I guess I justify it in two ways: the space I enter is beautiful. I see a large window with beautiful custom curtains and my kitchen table that I keep set and it’s one of my favorite things. secondly if I had to walk around and enter through the front door then I’m exposed to wind, rain, cold, etc and that will just irritate me. Not to mention bringing in groceries...it just makes more sense to enter at the closest point to where you are going.
This is such and interesting and helpful video! I subconsciously am already doing these things because they feel good, but to have it articulated in terms of energy and the evoked feelings makes so much sense!
Great video, Baiyina. I’m making quite a few of these mistakes, and I’m going to try to correct at least a couple of them to start. I love the way you edited this video to show your Feng Shui consultation. Thank you for always teaching us meaningful design principles.
Yes I am guilty of most of these Feng Shui no-nos, but in some cases there is no option. Definitely agree on the entryways being nice. I have been revamping my home, and this was an important aspect to me, but I have no knowledge of Feng Shui. Strangely enough, I did move my bed around at 2 AM a few months ago, couldn't go to sleep until I got it done, and it has made my sleep much better. Now I know why!
Simplehuman makes a great small trash can that you can attach to the inside of your cabinet door. It has a lid so it never gets smelly, and you’ll be surprised at how much you can cram into it! Hope this helps.
Thank you for this - always been interested in feng shui but ignored lots of it. But have repositioned my bed and got curtains up. I also got a money plant and put it in my wealth corner and it has def helped! Cut expenses, paid off debt and got a pay rise! Def need to sort out my trash tho! ❤️
Great informative video. I have a small space and some ideas just don’t work for me but I try when I can. I like to take a picture of my space when I need to declutter. I notice more in the picture for some reason. When you live in your space day to day I find that I become clutter blind. By taking a picture it changes what I see. Sometimes I cringe because I realize that others have been seining that basket overflowing with crap in the corner but I’m immune to it because it’s been there so long.
Dear Baiyina, Hello! I caught a couple of your previous videos and am hooked. You provide great, no nonsense and totally real content. Thank you so much. Warm wishes from Foster City (SF Bay Area), CA.
Well, I have a beautiful Brabantia garbage container in vibrant red that I proudly display in my kitchen. It actually elevates a rather mundane piece. I love it!😊 Great advice however! Love your channel.
The only time I enter my house through the front door is when I go out to check the mail. I do love the view coming back in better than how I usually come into the house (through the garage and right into my blah laundry room which needs major help.) I seriously need to do something in that laundry room - beige walls, white washer/dryer, trash can and clutter.
@@baiyinadotcom I started right after that post I made today.Your laundry room makeover is my inspiration. Wish I would have taken a before pic. I always forget to take a before pic of my projects. smh
Thanks for this video. I'm about to have a beautiful mirror hung in my dining room, and now I'll give more thought to what it will reflect. I'll arrange something lovely in its view! 😊
I always thought Feng Shui was more a gimmick than a useful tool. You and your consultant made it accessible and understandable. I've made a number of these mistakes and will work to straighten them out. Mom is selling her house and giving us her possessions as she downsized. I have a number of her paintings and a couple great pieces of furniture in the way right now. Need to fish or cut bait. Replace something else with these new pieces, or find them a good home.
Thank you for sharing. I read a lots of Feng Shui books in the past years. And in my opinion, only 25 percent is fengshui and 75 percent is in your hands. Just always remember, what ever you are doing right now is your future and if it is not meant to be , no matter how you try and pray it will not gonna work. This is just based on my experienced.
From a health perspective it is good practice to throw out kitchen trash every day. Organic trash is a breeding ground for organisms such as aspergillus which may lead to aspergillosis - more common than you think. Just put the bin outside and have a smaller bin which you empty out into the large bin every day. I do this, it literally takes less than a minute.
Great video! I've also been enjoying Julie Khuu's Feng Shui and decor videos. Where did you get that beautiful white planter seen behind you in the video?
I placed a copper pot with water & a turmeric sachets under my bed for good energy & prosperity. ☺ As for the tv, i made a pretty slip cover ... Keeps it dust free & reduces negative energy!!
Loved this video! I find practicing Feng Shui so much fun and you explain it so well! And of course Ai is fantastic! ☺️ I have the same issue with small trash can under the sink but I like the fact that it makes me take my trash out very often!
I practice Feng Shui, however, some things are impractical for me. My carport is by my back door and I would have to walk around my entire bldg complex to get to the front door. To remedy this I created a pretty entryway just inside the back door which has a privacy screen because the door is in the bedroom. Some layouts make perfect Feng Shui impossible. Mirrors in the bedroom are a no no but if you have them they should not reflect your bed. Also a mirror over your sofa isn't good (too heavy and dangerous.) I use a trash bag hanging from a hook inside my pantry door. It forces me to dump it more often and it's hidden. In the kitchen, knives should be hidden away ( in a drawer or pantry) not on counter. This one surprised me but it makes sense to not have potential weapons exposed. I always love learning more about this practice. Once you get into it, it becomes more interesting. Thanks! This is a great video for those new to the practice.
Hello, apartment is looking great! I was literally contemplating bedroom curtains right before this video popped up! As always informative and helpful.
@@baiyinadotcom yeah after posting I clued in on the day, lol. I am recovering from a 1,000 mile round trip overnight to pick up my car that broke down when I was moving.
I like the very instinctual nature of Feng Shui. Bad mirror placement would also be at the end of a long and narrow hallway, since it elongates it even more.
Love feng shui, great content, I have read also with the mirror in front of door that when chi is coming in it will bounce off of the mirror and go back out. I try to follow as much as possible but hey real everyday life is a big ole stainless steel trashcan. Lol 🌿 tfs
I totally agree with you! Why have a rear entry garage if you are going to park in front of your house and carry everything (groceries) through the entire house to the kitchen
@@abbeysomething1352 , sorry no-go for me. It’s completely impractical! My foyer is clean and well designed because the family doesn’t dump their crap upon entering house. Its all dumped in garage mud room.
The small waste basket can totally work! We use a small kitchen trash bin!! The trick for us is probably having a separate bin for recyclables. My husband prefers small trash bins because he takes it out more frequently (it's also not as heavy and bulky) and it rarely smells. The recyclables, we keep in a paper bag, toss the contents into the recycle bin and reuse the paper bag.
Great Vid! As someone who still believes in the "closet monster" LOL, my new home has me waking up to reach-in closet doors and there is no other place to put the bed. This has to be a Feng Shui nightmare.
I have double closet on wall beside bed. It has folding doors which stay open. I can see in each side: A sleeping cat on elevated cat bed with lots of good energy from contented cats. They both like to be near me and I enjoy glancing over and seeing them happily curled up and sleeping. 🐱😺
I believe it. The first thing we see on entering, straight down the long foyer and across the living room on the opposite wall is the television 😬, and our bed is positioned paranormal style 😳. I’ve always felt bad about both, but like you I have windows or doors or fireplaces on every wall, now wall space. Maybe you could do something on decorating under those conditions? Gréât vidéo, Thanks! 🙏🏻
@@baiyinadotcom good idea, the only other wall for the bed would be facing the door but with a footboard (do we say that 🤪) or canopy, that would certainly reduce that exposed feeling. Thank you.
actually i didn't know much about feng shui before watching this video but i'm shocked by how many of these ideas i already implement in my life because i notice the difference they make to how pleasant my home is. i guess a lot of it really is common sense, but without someone putting it together in a list, we never really think about it consciously
Thanks for sharing. I must check out Ms. Johnson's channel & perhaps have a consalutation when I relocate. 🏃🏽♀️I feel like the Interior Space SWAT Team are on my trail, & when they catch me they will beat me.😳
Wow I didn’t know about the bed storage under it and I bought a bed purposely for that storage because I’m living in a room and I don’t have much space but I will try to change it.
Instead of getting a tiny trash can for under the sink, look at tilt out trash cabinets. I saw one from U-Eway at Amazon for $139. Not cheap but it just looks like another cabinet and it’s got a wooden top so you could use it as a cutting board.

I have to ask this - is it bad to not use drapes and only use shades?? my new apartment has these large radiator covers under the windows, and I’ve been unsure about putting drapery around them because they’re also right up against a corner, so the drapes would stick out. This is in every room unfortunately. And I hate short drapes so I was going to just do nice dual layered shades or linen ones. Would love your quick opinion!
My entry way was the first space I decorated for 2 reasons 1)I've never had an entry way before! Lol 2) it's the first space everyone enters so it was really important to me that it be welcoming and beautiful.
I’m surprised that I feel so strongly about this “front door” topic. But here goes. 🙏 If it’s raining, I will park in the garage & then leave the garage while closing it with the remote and walk to the back door so I can get inside quickly. (Oh the horror! ) Especially, if I’ve got a baby on my hip & a bag of groceries on the other. Life is complicated enough without having to concern myself with such silliness. Our front door is way too far away from the garage & a really LONG walk especially when you are carrying a grand baby & a bag of groceries in the rain! And, yes, it seems to always be raining.
I had a tiny kitchen in a small apartment. I kept a trashcan the size of an office wastebasket lined with plastic grocery bags, to give you an indication of the small size of the kitchen trash can. I took the trash out every day or 2 & never had a smelly kitchen.
I did great on everything except for the trash can in the kitchen. It’s a nice one though! 😫 We are a family of 5 and my kitchen is small so I’m not sure I have an option. But I’ll keep thinking about it. 🤔
I was thinking about rearranging my bedroom because I’m so frustrated with it. I was thinking about moving my bed facing the door BUT not directly. It would be facing the closet doors more so than the entry.
Another thought: placing a peace lily plant in your bedroom purifies the air and promotes peaceful sleep. Since I don't have a window in my bedroom, I move it in at night and out in the morning. It isn't pet friendly so put it up high so your doggie isn't tempted to nibble.
I understand that Feng Shui is meant to create balance and invite positive energy, but for me personally it's a bit too pedantic to strictly adhere to. But it's definitely an interesting topic for discussion. If it makes you happy, go all in!
"You can take the girl out of CALIFORNIA but just TRY to take CALIFORNIA out of the girl" Love this ....the Entry is indeed important....it's my favorite part of my old house.
Feng Shui is great and all, and I'll stick a money tree in a corner. But I cannot go along with all of these suggestions. First of all, I live in a climate with snow and rain and mud and I'm not interested in bringing the weather in through the front door when I have an entrance into a mudroom with tile floor and a coatrack. Leaving that stuff in the mudroom makes me MUCH happier than it does to walk into the nice clean living room with snowy boots and wet paws. Secondly, I lived for I think about 6 or 7 years in a duplex with my bed against the wall with the door and I slept like a baby and was hardly ever murdered. It made the most sense in the room because of windows and furniture layout. And OF COURSE Baiyina's living room was not welcoming she just moved in. She was always planning on decorating it. So that was silly IMHO. And I'm on the fence about the garbage can. I've had exposed garbage cans in a kitchen and it worked well. Especially because I lived with a man that would NEVER have found it under the sink. Seriously. And it had a foot pedal opener and made preparing meals much easier. So yeah... no. I'm not on board with all this. But I get it. It's a thing.
What if when you open your front door the first thing you see is straight back to the glass back door, mines just an open entry that leads through the house!
