Is the Red Bull RB19 only dominant in the hands of Max Verstappen? If left to his own devices, would Sergio Perez do enough of a job to win the drivers championship? Impossible to know for sure, but lets look back at all 8 races so far this season and try to find out.

the problem is that what he is doing is only possible with redbull, redbull is known for a one man team, yes we all know verstappen is faster than perez that's why they design the car specifically for him but the fact that they don't actually really care about their 2nd drivers they do not take their races serious speaks volumes as to why their 2nd drivers stink, they're not just slow they just forget how to drive that car i had never imagined a driver calibre of perez would consistently fail to qualify Q3 in a rocketship
@RehanX44
@RehanX44 Год назад
@@wildoranges where did albon deny it can you reference me to that evidence? i did not imply that they design the seat for verstappen and ask to adjust to it, of course even a 10 years old would understand when we talk about car design its to do with the characteristics of the car, and yes what you are saying is true to some extent, in theory perez should be able to drive that car fast as well but he fails often because redbull do not really care about what he wants in the car, any other team would try their best to make the car more balanced and then the better driver would be able to fine-tune it and the 2nd driver would also be comfortable but not redbull they do not believe in a balanced car they believe in making the car as fast as they can for their faster driver, i'm quite sure if every team designed the car considering just one driver in? they would be able to fo that and one driver would be flying while the other struggling, it's the only reason why i want to see verstappen in a different team doing what he does in redbull i wonder if it would be the same like vettel who struggled a lot in ferrari
@wildoranges
@wildoranges Год назад
@@RehanX44 I don't have that on file it's in some podcast interview on youtube. if you believe that 'any other team would try their best to make the car more balanced' even though it would cost them car performance and loose them wins, constructor and drivers points, then you don't understand F1. It's not that Red Bull 'don't care' what he wants in the car lmao it's that he's not able to drive the RB to its limits. That's like saying Mercedes didn't care what Bottas wanted and that's why he was nowhere near Lewis, even getting beaten by Max in a Red Bull during Mercedes' dominance, when it was simply Lewis able to do absolute insane things in that car. Would "any other team" make a car that Bottas and Lewis like equally? Of course not, that would be ridiculous. If Perez doesn't want to be a number 2 driver, he should be better. It's that simple.

All of Red Bull's drivers have been very capable operators (Webber, Ricciardo, Perez, Gasly, Kvyat, Albon), some even legendary over their tenure in the sport (Vettel, Verstappen, Coulthard), but I think there's very good reasons for why Red Bull have never had a 1-2 finish in the driver's championship. And I think that trend will continue this year.
@zeezmusic7245
@zeezmusic7245 Год назад
What’s the reason? I don’t think team can influence that, championship rankings are solely dependent on drivers performance. So far they’re 1-2 and they got the fastest car and great chances to keep it that way. RB can’t do much about drivers mistakes and shortcomings.
@invalid8774
@invalid8774 Год назад

@zeezmusic7245 Год назад
@@invalid8774 why don’t you mention those reasons then? Also Bottas was title winning driver?? Lmao mate hahaha why Mercedes was keeping Bottas through all those years? Don’t you think it’s for the same reasons RB keeps Perez?? RB was points away from 1-2 last year, and this year they’re almost halfway through that. I don’t get what you try to say, that Perez is a bad driver? He beat many respectable names as his teammates, it’s just that Max is on another level. Why would RB bring any other name at the moment? Perez does something that many next gen talents couldn’t do. RB doesn’t obsess over 1-2, that’s no achievement whatsoever. They won drivers and constructors last year RB can bring any other name if they want, but if Max makes them look like Perez all Max’s haters will repeat the same story, car is built around Max, RB doesn’t allow anyone to challenge Max and all of the other BS they say.
@brodsta01land12
@brodsta01land12 Год назад
@@zeezmusic7245 No one’s arguing Perez isn’t very capable. But I think we can agree that VER hasn’t been challenged by a teammate while in championship-contending machinery. HAM was pushed to the absolute limit by ROS and was kept fairly honest by BOT, and Mercedes (especially through the ROS years) made every effort to give them equal opportunity for the title. It’s safe to say RedBull builds the team around one driver like Ferrari did in the MSC era, but if they had someone like Norris or Russell alongside him, they’d have no issues achieving a 1-2 in the title if they treated them anything like Max.
@zeezmusic7245
@zeezmusic7245 Год назад
@@brodsta01land12 but Hamilton had 8 years of same regulations and a fastest car in 7 out of those and a great car in 2021 too. This is RB’s second year only. Again having 1-2 in the championship don’t mean nothing. Why would RB chase that? As far as that ‘RB is one man team and MB is opposite’ that’s bs mate. Of course MB made it possible for Ham/Ros battle when they were miles ahead everyone. What happened with Bottas’s 2021 season? They sacrificed his season and used his car to explore tuned up engines durability because Lewis was fighting Max and Bottas changed god knows how many engines because of that. And now when they don’t fight for championship they don’t care who’s number 1 or 2 in their team, same like Ferrari. RB development last winter was more towards Perez wasn’t it? When Perez was winning in Jeddah and Baku did they tell him to let Max pass him? It’s the circumstances that Perez is in the team now. If Bottas was in MB from 2014 you think they would replace him? RB could never bring Russell, he was MB driver with promised MB seat and in 2020 when RB signed Sergio RB was nowhere yet. You think Russell would be interested back then? Also Norris in 2020 had a good rookie season, but far from unbelievable season. He did that in 2021 when RB already had Sergio. And RB already had few young talents that were far from Max to risk it with another promising talent. That’s why they wanted experienced, and solid driver. And it worked and they gave him multi year contract because he was a key role for that championship. And if they extend his contract after 2024 I wouldn’t be surprised at all.

If Max wasn't there, he probably would still fail to get the title. the Red bull would not be dominant. It would be a free for all. RB is dominant cause of Max, and he needs a better team mate, cause they won't always have this advantage even on the hands of Max. RB needs a consistent second top driver. Undoubtedly. What gets Perez "distracted" and forces him to make mistakes is trying to beat Max. His mechanics already said in both Monaco and Spain he was trying different driving styles to see if he could stay on Max's level. Tall order. On pace, Perez hasn't been that far behind, but mistakes prove it takes a lot of effort from him to match what Max does as second nature. The difference between being bred to race since 2yo and getting into a car later in life in a developing country with close to zero opportunities, training and facilities. Those early years are so crucial.

Idk if Checo would win the championship if Max didn’t exist. I mean if he’s cracking under pressure now, can you imagine the pressure against Alonso & Hamilton? Although I’m sure it’s an entirely different kind of pressure and it’s most likely greater against your own teammate, *especially* if that teammate is Max Verstappen. Would the support of the entire team backing him be enough to take away the intimidation that comes with going against two teams like Mercedes & Aston Martin + the media and shitstorm that comes with a championship battle involving Lewis Hamilton & Fernando Alonso. (Think of the pressure cooker environment & all that tension in 2021, but a 3-way battle) Media and fans around the world would be losing their minds. That’s an entirely different type of added pressure, but at the same time it’s not so gut wrenching as having to beat Max in equal machinery.

If Checo were on his own he can have a shot at winning the title no doubt about it, but it's a massive unknown on whether or not Checo can hold to pressure of competing for a title. If he were the one in place of Max fighting Lewis in 2021, can he get the same level of consistency Max got that year? Right now he's (supposed to be) in a fight with Max for a title, but even then there are times he would bin it like in Austrailia and Monaco or in Spain where he was stuck in Q2. So that would suggest he does not have the level of consistency that Fernando or Lewis have (both of which so far haven't DNFed in a race yet), and that's what ultimately going to undo his chances. If he's that close in terms of points to Lewis and Fernando because he would have some good performances and a few bad ones, all it takes is 1 DNF to turn things upside down. And since he's not as speedy as Max, then the likelihood of him say crashing into another car at the start of the race or being pressured by another car to make a mistake and then falling backwards or crashing is higher.

@nymphithys1558

Nah, then season 2023 would probably have been Fernando vs Lewis. I mean, the start of this season would have been similar for sure. However, RB would definitely have been surpassed later in the year after some upgrades of their opponents (seeing Checo is currently already having trouble to pass the AM/MB cars and the occasional ferrari's). We also have to keep in mind that Red bull still has the costcap penalty this year, which will also heavily affect 2024's car. So they cant upgrade 2023's car as much as aston and merc can this year, and i think it will probably be even more visible after the summerbreak. That is why it is so important for RB right now that Max and Checo farm as much points as possible while they have the advantage, because it gives them a pointsbuffer to still secure the championship if AM and MB manage to catch up soon. Because the less of the budget they have to spend on upgrades for 2023's car, the more of the penaltied budget can be put in 2024's car, making them less behind on development at the start of next year. That is also why Helmut is having more serious talks with Checo about his performance after bad races this early in the season already, compared to previous years where he used to tell the media "The season is still very long, he will be fine". If Max didnt exist at this moment then they would have been extremely behind on the development schedule already, and probably thinking the 2023 car would currently already be in dire need of upgrades.. Also, dont underestimate the amount of times perez doesnt get the sweet spot of his own setup going during practises and has to take over and build on max's ( aka the real reason why people still think the entire car is "build in favor of max", no peeps, the setup is crucial in order to feel the confidence to push the car to its limit. If its off you either go slower than the cars potential, or take the high risk of binning it in the wall when you push.) Without max there, checo wouldnt have setups to copy either as his teammate would probably be worse than him.
