Continuing our tour of Pridnestrovia (Transnistria), we go to BENDER to try and understand more about this post-Soviet breakaway state. On the way we get a surprise tour of the sublime mid-century Soviet architecture of the library and we learn a lot more about the people who live there.

Interesting. I could follow a few sentences as bizarrely we were taught some Russian by an old Polish teacher at school in South London 60 years ago.

Great report. I was there about a month ago. Travelled from the top to the bottom of the PMR over 10 days. Beautiful place with amazing people.

Nice - that's a good amount of time to spend there. I was there for 3-4 days and felt I rushed it, and most are probably there for less than 24 hours!

I couldn't say - but I did see alot of signs and posters about working in the EU or for women selling hair. I think that people's lives are tough, but the people are tough too!

It's not a country really. Correct me if I'm wrong, but so far no officially recognized countries of the world have recognized this thing. Speaking of your question, did you watch the video? Note that it was filmed in 2021, not 1973.

Sad, really. Moved to the place in 1982, says the lady. Of course you did... Imperialist politics of russia haven't changed for hundreds of years and are on full display here. Move ethnic russians to the occupied teritories, locals - to russia, and try maintaining hold on local government, preferably made up of locals. Everything else is secondary. The point? Living in the large and, preferably, ever growing country, however underdeveloped, makes the life worthwhile on its own somehow. Go figure...
