It was wet, really wet but what an amazing mine site!
I've driven this road hundreds of times - always looked at the spoil heaps towering above the quarry but never once expected to find a massive array of mines this high up on the hill. What a strange place! It seems as though the quarry (which is over two hundred years old) has uncovered a load of really old mine tunnels and exposed them in various states of decay, some of which we explore today in this video.
We're not done! We found several other entrances but we had to stop filming because the weather really played havok with our equipment (and underwear), so we will return to continue the movie in the Spring of 2021. What an amazing place!

I've watched this twice. I love your enthusiasm so much. It's great that as adults, we can still feel like a kiddie in a sweet shop.

Pretty sweet exploration. By chance have you heard of geocaching? Part of me almost expects that there'd be geocaches in or near those mine shafts :)

Thank you very much! We didn't intend to do quote so much walking around outside again after the last video - but I couldn't leave the place without trying to see everything so it ended up not quite as we wanted (rain apart). Thank you for the kind comments this year, very much appreciated! Have a great Christmas!!

Fantastic location ! iv been there but never had the bottle to explore into the adits, looking forward to seeing some follow ups on it , you must have passed the old hay bob next to the derelict mine shop on the way , got some good pictures of that , happy new year guys, all the best for 2021.

We have had a look into the mine next to the shop but it was horrendously wet, low, miserable and comes to a large fall not far from the entrance - couldn't put it on video because it is a low crawl and with the weather the way it is and with all the water the lens would have been a nightmare to keep clear (as well as the camera out of getting submersed). Wasn't fun that one lol!

What a fantastic place and I love the video. I went walking up the far side of Coldberry Gutter ( above Newbiggin) and this place reminded me a bit of that though I suspect you got pretty high up.

Thank you! I'm hoping next year to buy some better sound gear as the wind is always an issue. I have a Rode Mic but they are so directional and this also causes problems for the type of filming that I do. Have a good Christmas!

Lol, sorry it depends on how I edit the video - usually we both appear at the very beginning intro but sometimes maybe not depending on if I mess up/forget words etc.

Wow, I need to know where this beauty is!!! :) Think I recognise where you are from the building behind, valley doesn't start with a 't' does it? On watching further, that theory out of the window but could be in hte nearby 'gutter'? Yes, I've been had by those spines before, learned my lesson quickly lol. Lol, thought you were gonna pass out with excitement! lol. You get as excited as me! lol

Hi Steve. This place is a load higher that one would expect to find it - but it seems to have pointed the miners in the right direction for the massive workings further across the valley (UKAME Minator Mine?). I'd gladly show you where it is, perhaps once all this lockdown thing is a bit 'tidier' hopefully early next year we could maybe do a combined video or something? (I know we've meant to do it this year but with the situation as it has been). I will be going back with the intention of canter-levering that rock back up that is sticking down in adit 1 as it is too low to safely crawl under - am worried because of a substantial rock hanging right next to it and worried that if that stone is dislodged then part of the arch may fall (keystone removal and all that). I've got plenty of steel available to either wack it up, support it or bang it out all together - the fall goes up to the surface currently. I don't know what was wrong with me that day, I seemed far too happy - I think I was delirious with excitement haha! Shame about the constant heavy rain ended up getting into the mics on the camera, though we were actually wet through even with the waterproofs on.

@@MineExploration Yup, with that rain, I think you were there the same day I was a couple of valleys over exploring for mines (unrecorded), I got wet to the skin too. Thanks, so it is on the opposite side of the hill to the Minator Mine, I was right in the end. Yes, sounds like a plan, I'm itching to get into those mines now, be better with more people for the safety aspect and doing a colab video would be good. Could give you the minator mine tour too if time/energy.

Hi Tom & Gary, you should get a personal locator beacon, it runs off of satellite so you never lose signal and it will guide emergency services to with a couple of feet of you. So many adit's, you guys need to invest in a dinghy lol. Have a great Christmas and New Year, my love to you and your families. xx🎄🎄🎈🎉💖

Seems more like a military/survival tunnel for resisting the advance of the Romans than like any type of mine! ~( ,m,)~ What were they digging for so hard?
@MineExploration
@MineExploration 3 года назад
Lol yes! This was a lead mine from the early 1800's. The whole site continued to be worked, on and off right up to the 1940's (the last air we explore in this video) but was more successful in extracting barytes in later years.

Looking up the valley i think it was a hush with test levels on each side looks like a wet suit job
@MineExploration
@MineExploration 3 года назад
Hi Keith, yes that would certainly explain the shear amount of very close adits that run in almost every direction. Lol, definitely wet suit required!
