The channel might look a bit strange for the time being, this is because we're updating our video icons to be of the same design rather than being rather random. We're marking all the previous videos as public as we update each icon so hopefully in no time we'll have updated everything and the whole site will be back to normal.
hi guys.the lamp he is showing you is a supervisors/deputys lamp.the normal miners lamp was lit in the lamp room and picked up before the guys went underground.if the flame went out they were in trouble.but for some reason deputies could reignite their lamps.
nice video, just a warning, the two white gaskets are made of asbestos, swap these nasty stuff with modern ones and don't breath the debris. I made mines out of automotive cardboard paper gaskets. (heat resistant stuff) cheers
Great to see the old boys workings. esp the names and dates. i just got back from a tour of Corwall (from Australia). So fascinating. Managed to buy myself an nice good condition Type 6 safety lamp. Were these used in metal mines? or maybe just found its way there from the coal country.
Thanks for the excellent review. I noticed that when you were filming using HDR, that dark areas were much more grainy than when using night mode. I especially noticed the grain in HDR mode when you were filmed your black camera set up on the tripod - the black areas had noticeable grain whereas the same shot in night mode the grain wasn't visible.
In the UK the NCB/British Coal insisted on magnetic locks. Small mines could use the lead rivet style lock. In Australia there was a few mines that also used the lead rivet style lock as well.
My GR6S bought today does not have the same lighting mechanism as yours so not sure how it lights. Just 2 posts near the wick with screws in the top. No hole and bung in the glass either. It does have the magnet latch.
I'm puzzled when you state that you had set the V800 to HDR mode. Your video clearly looks as if it's in HDR but, I found that this mode (for me anyway) produces the grainiest images in low-light. In your above video and the one of the farmhouse interior I can't see anything - it's noise free! As this mode automatically disables practically all other settings, including stabilization, I'm at a loss as to the reason why I'm getting poor results - any thoughts? > Cheers <
I wonder how it compares to Sony AX43. Sony costs a little more but it's 4k (actually pointless for me personally as I record 1080p only). I wonder if the low light and image quality are better in 1080p on sony/
My grandfather Joseph Caygill had relatives owned this mine. I no from 1906 - 1916 William Caygill his uncle took over the mine from a Joseph Caygill which opened 1887 - 1905 then in 1917 - 1919 joint owners with William and William Scott we dont no anything else as my grandad is no longer with us. I would be grateful if anyone had any information or any relatives we may have still living near
Always told lighter fluid over paraffin in Eccles lamps. They have a sort of webbing in fuel cell and will clog up, if using too much paraffin. Lovely video on showing people how to dismantle Eccles lamps👍
After you did the flats, right hand gets really interesting but neck deep water for long periods and sumps in bad weather but origionalky went right through the hill. Lol, I'm nit going down that level any time soon after your pizza event lol. If you'd have kept going on that level and gone through 15 mins if shake, you pop out near the blue pool :) I call it the shale loop, some big stopes down there.
Oww, will head on down and take a look further into it. All that bending over with me stomach churning away definitely wasn't going to end pleasantly - especially for anyone within 5000 or so. The results once home were bad..... (nearly before home at one point lol!)
Hi Tom & Gary, the mine seems to go all over the place, was that sulphur on the ribs or was it Ironstone ??? Another cool exploration guys, I hope you are both doing well. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx ❤
Seemed a bit of a mix in places - some lovely ironstone bleeding out but also a fair bit of very yellow powdery mineral (which I took to be Sulphurous - though no smell.....apart from the bad pizza.....which may have left a sulphurous aroma down there....)
Great one Tom and Gaz drove past it and walked up to it never got to go in, I know the landowner well, It was last worked in the 50s 60s for spar hence all the rotten timber from that time and wriggly tin great to see the carvings on the wall
Hi Tom & Gary, so cool seeing all of those crystals, that first tin you found was a Mackerel tin but it looked really new so obviously someone was exploring and thought that littering was the right thing to do. I hope you've settled in okay now, it's such a stressful thing to do but nice once it's all unpacked and the way you want things. I enjoyed this one because there was so much to see both inside and out. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx ❤
Yes the move came right to the last minute - trying to catch it before the stamp duty change. All done and sorted now with just a few loose ends to finish off, was really stressful mainly with queries on our old house but thankfully all got sorted out in the last few hours. Massive relief!
Ah yes, I cut a lot out of this video to keep the time down, so I mysteriously managed to fill two 128GB cards ??? (must have left the camera in 10bit mode from something else I'd been doing previously - it eats data big style)
Aye Lol, not married on that day but we're having the banns read so have to attend our local church for 6 weeks beforehand. (the same day that we visited the mine - we got up early!) Getting married in the summer after 14 years of practicing, didn't like to rush and all that.
Took some bloody finding, that first adit !! But over a few Saturdays, and after walking many miles, searching everywhere from Marlbeck to Snaisgill, on both sides of the beck, I finally found it....... less than 40metres away from where I'd parked the car every time !! 😳. I also found some very obscure adits in the area that I bet very few visit 😉. Cheers, Graeme 🙂
Welcome back Tom & Gary, I've missed your wit Tom lol. Congratulations on your upcoming Wedding, my invite hasn't arrived yet 😂 Seriously though, I hope you and Shona, (sorry if I spelt it wrong) have a fantastic day and an awesome marriage. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx ❤
Thanks Keith, loads has happened over the last year and time has been a real issue for me to get out and make these vids. We actually made this one three times over about 6 weeks until I realised what the problem was with the camera setup - I have been using the GH5 for other stuff in the mean time so changed all my underground settings from what I remember, but all seems to be working again now (though RU-vid keeps saying processing for some reason?). Thank you for watching and staying with the channel! Appreciated!
Thanks Steve! This last year has been a nightmare of stuff going on and time has been a real issue for me to get out and make these videos. Everything has been a bit of a rush lately so a lot of things had to take a back seat for a while.
