No kill spark means bad di, in theory at least. It took a while for devs to figure it out in rivals 1.

there are kill sparks, but they only appear when there is no possible DI that can save you from death. In rivals kill spark = kill (unless something like a kragg wall blocks your path and u can tech it) unlike smash where kill sparks tend to bait you. u can see an example of this kill spark at 9:48

players and commentators not knowing when something will kill is probably just a consequence of the game being new and people not being able to read the physics as well. eventually we will probably be able to know when someones DI was so bad it would kill them

​​@@DualTheAwesomesmash has a couple types of kill sparks. There are sparks where bad di can KO you (blue), and sparks where really good di can save you (red). The situation at 10:30 could have used a blue spark

@@Lerkeroi agree with you that different kill sparks could be cool, but youre wrong about what blue and red kill sparks mean. blue kill sparks just happen when certain conditions are met, like landing a falcon punch or an incineroar revenged fsmash. red sparks occur when the game thinks youre going to die, and doesnt factor in DI or obstructions. the fault with both of these is that they interrupt the gameplay flow by slowing down the game super hard. if there were a like “bad DI” kill spark i would hope itd just flash a color on screen and not interrupt anything. if its for sure gonna kill then fuck it make the thing pause and take a screenshot idc.
