Excellent video, have 2019 R1200R, with the older display, brought one of these and absolutely love the display. Didn't realize there were other options by pressing the display. So thanks for the informative video.
Excellent presentation Rikky and extremely interesting, possibly a base from which you can extract more data. Very impressed... great episode 👍. A lot of editing has gone into this episode and it looks very professional indeed. Carl
Not interested in gadgets like that but I gotta say you're explanation and delivery were awesome! Nice one Ricky and hope you have a blast tomorrow at Donny.
I’ve been interested in these for a while as they integrate with the Scenic Nav App 👍🏻 The Connected App/TFT was a big reason I went for a new GS, however it’s a long way from reliable. I’ve ended up using a second phone purely for Connected App duties. It works well for me. Does make me wonder why more manufacturers don’t use Car Play. I guess they don’t want to give up control.
@@RikkyTang Honda have it on the Africa Twin but that has a knobbled Cruise Control system. I’d be fascinated to know why they implement it so badly compared to all the other manufacturers.
Yes that's right it's basically an overlay - I set my smart phone to screen recording mode while the Wunderlinq app is active (this means that the phone screen can't go to sleep). I put the resulting MP4 file into my video editor and edit the size/position of the screen recording to overlay it onto my riding video. I wish I could say it's easy but it takes quite a bit of work!
Nice review. Can you use the Wunderlinq and also the BMW app at the same time? I ask because I'd like to have the turn by turn on the TFT and the map on the phone display.
I have now used the Wunderlinq and the BMW App at the same time, at the track of all places! I screen-recorded the data display screen from the Wuderlinq app and the BMW app was also connected and recorded the sessions too. Once both apps are connected you don't need to keep the Wunderlinq as the main app with focus (perhaps this is different if you have an iPhone) I can tell you that before I fitted the Wunderlinq I have also had the BMW app display the map on the phone at the same time as having the turn by turn instructions displayed on the TFT. That combination works quite well although I wish the BMW map on the phone displayed more information like Google Maps or Waze. Hope this helps 😊
@@RikkyTang Thanks, definitely helps. I'm considering getting Wunderlinq, then remote mounting it inside the fairing of my R1250RS and using a quadlock mount on my bars. I haven't quite figured it all out yet though.
Hi Rikky. Great video! Can I just ask if the software has improved, as I saw it has received an update in March 2023. Also, how good is the phone attachment?
Hi there, Well I have to admit that I don't use this anymore (I wasn't aware that there was a software update), and I am actually planning to do a giveaway with it at some point in the near future! I wanted it for datalogging purposes primarily - which is not what it's designed for at all to be fair to it - but recording the apps screen on the phone is not really a great way to do it. In terms of the phone mount, I found that it attached the phone to the bike well enough, but adding the magnetic mount to the back of my phone case made the phone bulky, and then I had be careful to keep my phone away from bank cards and other things with magnetic strips.
Thank you! This is really helpful. As much as I love the idea of it, I'm not a big fan of big and bulky phones (they keep getting bigger if you ask me) and I hadn't even thought of the bank cards. Hmmm... Maybe using an older phone specifically for this purpose could work? 🤔
I think your bike might just be outside the list of supported models I'm afraid. There is a lot of info to work through so here is a link to their Compatibility page (The link might get removed so please drop me a reply if you don't see one) blackboxembedded.com/pages/wunderlinq-compatiblity
In the end there is actually no problem at all... The Denali lights are only controlled by the WW when the bike instruments are in "TFT" mode. When the instruments are in "NAV" mode, the WW controls the Wunderlinq app on your phone instead and does not control the lights.
