Quick deep dive into the component holder vs modular component holders offered on the Wyrmwood modular game table Kickstarter.
(Sorry this video was recorded vertical but I had surgery on my one arm and was having trouble holding the phone with that hand already and couldn’t stand the weight in landscape.)

I had no idea the modular ones were smaller and shallower. Thank you so much.

thank you so much for posting! This is a great run through of real world functionality. a couple questions how do you like the table overall for gaming on? are you doing a video about toppers/topper block? what did you end up doing for chairs? thanks again these videos were super helpful!

Everyone who is played at the table absolutely loves it and finds it a “next level experience” for gaming. It does take a little adjusting playing in a vault and with the accessories. In particular deciding on game set ups takes a little extra time and thought. That said worst case throw on the toppers and it’s the same as any table. I absolutely can do one on toppers and topper block as well as game deck. If there’s anything in particular you’d like for me to cover don’t hesitate to throw them in here. I went with gaming chairs since it’s for a board game room (Specifically Secret Labs brand). They work great but have one or two downsides which I can cover in a future video as well.

Firstly, I would like to thank you for posting both this video and the cup holders deep dive as they have been tremendously helpful and detailed! My largest area of concern for this table is how usable it is for TTRPGs such as D&D given the width of the perimeter rail when the recessed vault is in use. For example, how easy is it to balance and comb through a book on this rail? Likewise, how easy is it to keep a character sheet on the rail and make notations as needed? I understand that the player desk may alleviate this issue entirely, but my concern at that point becomes how ergonomic is it during gameplay. For example, when using the player desk, are you able to easily see the center of the table/battlemat with it in place or does it provide a hindrance to visibility, especially when component organizers are attached to the front of it. Additionally, how easy is it to reach into the center of the table when a player desk is in use, both with and without component organizers? I know that it juts out a bit from the outside of the table and I was curious as to how much further back it forces you to sit from the center of the table itself. Are you able to move your miniatures from a seated position, or do you generally need to stand up to sidestep the player desk to move your miniatures around? I apologize for the bombardment of questions, but thus far you are one of the few people that I have seen on RU-vid doing these deep dives and I would greatly appreciate your insights! Lastly, if you are willing to do another video deep dive, I know that I personally would love to see the use cases as described above in a look at the table's usability for TTRPGs including a look at the player desk and how effective it is as a solution with regards to seeing how much it blocks visibility and acts as a barrier from the center of the table. Overall, thank you for providing these videos so far as a picture truly does speak a thousand words and these have been of phenomenal quality and provide a great level of analysis with a wide array of use cases.

I’ll see what I can do to address these questions. I’ve got plans to do a player desk video and can tie in a lot of your questions to it. Thanks again for supporting my videos!

Another great video! Could you please do an overview of each of the different wood types in HD quality?

Just made another video and posted it showing each of the different woods in detail. Hope this is HD enough as I recorded it in 720p. Should have done higher quality but didn’t think to change setting before recording. Still new to making RU-vid videos. Learning the hard way.

Your videos are super helpful. We already own a number of hex tiles, but are considering getting a pair of component and pair of modular organizers. Similar to how you mentioned there’s just something nice about having a vaulted gaming table, do you have a similar feeling for using the component organizer for personal player use vs hex tiles?
@ThePercOfGaming

I use a combination of both very often when gaming. I’ll use hex for communal use and rail accessories for personal use. Sometimes I’ll use rail accessories for two player games since we are traditionally seated next to each other but even then often use hex for keeping the arm reach area cleared and items lower on the table. I would highly suggest having all three from my experience with component holders at 1 per player, Modular at 1-2 per player, and hex at 6-8 total. Most games (~90%) I play we fall in this range if it is a component heavy game.

Great video! Have a quick question: what type of wood is your MGT? It seems like black walnut but couldn't be sure.

Not to sound negative but do you see any point to playing a fast board game like Splendor in a vault rather than on the topper (or a regular table) since there's no dice, nothing that requires bowls and it's fast enough to not have to "save the game for later"
@ThePercOfGaming
@ThePercOfGaming 2 года назад
We leave our game room setup with the vault open so for us it’s just quicker. If you have it set up with toppers on for sure there are many games you might not want to convert for. That said there is something fun and unique about sitting around a vaulted table for gaming that helps everybody get in the mood for gaming. For example we play The Crew in the vault which isn’t necessary but people enjoy leaning over the rail. Poker players can relate I’m sure to sitting at a nice poker table vs a kitchen table. Another side of it for me is lower risk of damaging toppers by only using them for dining purposes but then again I know I can only baby them so long before I need to just enjoy them as intended.
