The SIAI-Marchetti SF.260 is an Italian light aircraft which has been commonly marketed as a military trainer and aerobatics aircraft. It is know as the “Ferrari of the sky” for its slick appearance and its relatively high cruise speed.

Nice first look at this stunning and accurately built add-on. Take a look at the inboard front of the tip tanks and you will see a vortex generator on each side which re-attaches the airflow at high angles of attack and low airspeed. The aircraft is controllable even when stalled in roll due to this feature. I have had the pleasure of flying several models of the (See-I Mar-Khet-ti ) SF-260. An airline friend of mine was the sole importer to the US based in Texas. In real life this airplane's only fault is being hard to slow to the 108 kts. gear and flap speed that you need for approach to landing. The Designer, Stelio Frati was a genius and responsible for the Falco also, which was a wooden design very much like the SF-260. It could be purchased as a kit at one time and they were easy and fun to build plus having extraordinary speed and flight characteristics. The attention to detail in this aircraft is carried over for the real aircraft in that it has mostly flush rivets in all the important areas that give it so much performance. With such a high level of detail in the model here I suggest you be careful on the throttle as shock cooling can be a big engine killer as in the real world. I'm looking forward to my copy and I'm sure you will all find it a well behaved and exciting aircraft in your virtual fleet.

I remember seeing a SF-260 on a cross country I was doing years ago. I always loved this plane. I thought I remembered it having throttles to the left of the pilot like a fighter and not only in the center? How can you fly left seat with a right handed control stick and the throttles also on the right? Is this normal? As a military trainer I would expect the throttle, prop and mixture to be to the left of the pilot too. Edit: I just checked with some SF-260's for sale online and most have the PIC sitting in the right seat with all gauges placed on that side and radios on the left which makes sense. Not sure why this one is not setup that way.

I still remember flying RealAir's SF.260 in FSX many years ago. When switching to a new laptop and X Plane, this may just be THE aircraft for me to get!

Great vid Q8! On the inverted flight, that looked like fuel starvation. I don't know if it'll work, but try it with the boost pump on. Most planes require some form of pump versus gravity for inverted flight, but again, this is just a guess. Thanks again! Would like to see a long vid in this.

That's correct. This is the civillian version of the aircraft with carburettor engine. Even turning on the fuel pump will have no effect. The manual states that inverted flight should last no more than 10 seconds. The problem is not only the fuel flow but also the oil lubrication.

Man that sucks about your VR nausea. I have been using mine for almost two years now with no issues. I cannot fly any of my sims without VR now. But I really appreciate the review of this aircraft and REP for it! I have a few REP products, and I was looking at this one to add to the collection. Thank you.

Having tried landing this xplane model myself, and watched JRollon do it on his "FSEconomy" video, it seems really easy to bounce. So, nice landing :)

25 years ago as a student pilot in the Belgian Airforce I used to fly the Marchetti SF 260 M . During these 2 years the airforce purchased another Sf 260 D . And I remember that the M models had a gravity based carborator. For inverted flight of maximum 5 seconds or so, we had to close the fuel, put on the 2 fuel boosterpumps and set power idle ( hope i'm correct.. its 25 years ago ) . The D models had an direct injected carbo and they were way more suitable for inverted flight.

Simcoders are great, and this plane looks fantastic. But what's going on with rain on the windshield? It looks to be flashing at one point. On a related note, A2A's Bonanza uses prop wash to clear the windshield of rain when you push the throttle forwards on the ground. Given that imitation is the greatest form of flattery.... (btw, using the A2A Bonanza made me realise how good Simcoders' F33 is, thanks Simcoders).

@@06L I noticed they've changed the rain effects now I think. Just went for a flight and the rain looked amazing with the aircraft parked. I first noticed it when I was inside with the cover still on and the rain was still a nice effect then.

The GA aircraft that finally got me out of FSX. I love this little thing. Right up there on equal with A2A add-ons. Love that it works with Fseconomy as it adds a whole new level especially when you own the aircraft in FSE. It means any damage charges are paid with money earned from fse jobs🛩️😀 Also the TBM 900 and Aifoilabs B350 are enough for a lifetime in Xplane

I notice wikipedia claims the aircraft has relatively tame stall characteristics, which would match the behaviour here I think. Also I notice from the features listed in this video that each livery will have its own maintenance and history. Is that a first for Simcoders? Nice feature anyway. And the emergency landing gear, emergency avionics and emergency battery. I'm getting to quite like the panel layout as well.

I think it is a first reference the specific maintenance history for the liveries. The aircraft has a real feel to it and is great fun to fly if you ask me.

@@Q8Pilot Wow, loads more features in the list as well. I've always wanted multiple setups because if there's any point in choosing an oil viscosity then its nice to be able to have one aircraft setup for the UK and one setup for California for example. Nice.

Looks fantastic, but those tabs just noticeable on the left screen are distracting. Yes it's a minor gripe considering, but still, I do not like the unnecessary clutter. I really wish developers would give us the option to "control + scroll down" to dim them out completely when they add these quick access option tabs.

Carb heat reduces power and should not be used for takeoff. It is only required when power is low.

I wondered about that, but the fuel pressure gauge didn't seem to move. It made the video a bit more dramatic though ;) edit: Oh yeah: "for reasons only the Italians understood, most SF.260s were fitted with carbureted engines. It must be fuel starvation. I do have the SF260 by RealAir for FSX and there is a Boost Pump switch: Manual says "Note: For best engine operation during aerobatic flight use of the Auxiliary fuel boost pump is recommended to maintain adequate fuel pressure." Hmm carb heat on the ground ? Not only you are robbing yourself of power during take off but most likely bypassing the air filter. Not sure if this is correct, maybe for this plane ?

If you taxi during cold and icing conditions with this aircraft, the engine will accumulate ice and will bring your engine to a halt. You can increase throttle if the engine is already warm (in the green arc), but if not, carb heat is the only option.

@@Q8Pilot Thats correct for longer taxi :), but i wouldn't take off with it though, for those earlier reasons. You are at high power there so you don't need carb heat, plus less power available and possible wear becouse of unfiltered air. I would just do a run up before take off, apply carb heat as a part of the checklist at this point and then take off.

Can you please explain how why it is way far away from the real thing. I real pilot of the aircraft said it is close to the real thing. I would be very interested to know more.
