Xbox Series X|S Gamma Flickering Issue *SOLVED*

In this video I explain how to eliminate that annoying gamma flickering once and for all.
Checklist:
-Apply preferred settings (120hz or 60hz with or without HDR10 and Auto HDR)
-Hard boot both the console and display by unplugging the AC power cable from both
-If flickering persists, try disabling HDR10 - this should solve the problem.
*It should be noted that the Series S stock cable is not an Ultra High-Speed HDMI 2.1 cable, so in order to achieve 120hz without flickering, you will need to purchase a separate HDMI 2.1 cable.

If you're still experiencing gamma flickering on your Series X at 120hz, try disabling HDR and/or VRR. OR you can simply run at 60hz. If you're on the Series S, make sure you have an HDMI 2.1 cable. The Series S DOES NOT come with an Ultra High-Speed HDMI 2.1 cable. Thanks for watching, gamers!

I tried using a premium high speed 2.1 cable, but did not stop the flickering. I dont want to buy an ultimate high speed only to find out that the flickering does not stop. Are you sure that the ultra high speed cable will work?

@@mehmetdogan490 high speed HDMI will only get you 4K/60hz. That’s what I’m trying to show in the video. In order to get 4K/120hz you NEED an ultra-high speed HDMI cable (which does not come with the Series S).

Make sure you've updated your controller AND console to the latest firmware. Also make sure that if you are trying to achieve 120Hz, you are using an HDMI 2.1 cable. I myself haven't had any issues with the stock cable that comes with the Series X, but I've heard that some people do. Also, what game are you playing? Because if it's Call of Duty Vanguard, I can tell you that the controller disconnect is an issue coming from the game, and not the console itself.

Awesome video thank you - have the series x link to the LG CX - I have notice a slight flicker and you can only see it in dark seems - not as bad as what you had show. Doesn't do it on the PS5 just on the Xbox, would this be the same problem? You have to really look for the flicker (so to speak) but when you see it you can't stop seeing it.
@Nirvanablue89
@Nirvanablue89 2 года назад
You're welcome! As far as what you mentioned, this sounds like it could potentially be cable related, but I would try turning off VRR in settings and see if it goes away. If that works, then it suggests the cable is the issue. That said, make sure your CX's firmware is up to date!

The HDMI 2.1 stock cable should be fine, however, it is possible it could be faulty. That said, before investing in a new cable, it's worth disabling HDR10 to see if that resolves the flickering. Make sure you've hard booted both your console AND LG CX (unplugging the AC power cable from both the console and television for a couple of minutes) AFTER you've made your preferred settings changes.

Only started for me recently and never in games. Just streaming apps when HDR or Dolby Vision is active. Only thing I found that worked was turning off VRR from the Xbox. Doing so on the Tv didn’t work. It might have to do with vrr and the signal from the media apps getting out of sync with HDR or Dolby Vision. Maybe they don’t handle the drop to 59fps. I don’t know why that would have changed though when it worked flawlessly for over a year with the same Series X and same Tv.

I have flickering on Forza Motorsport 2023....even through the stream, so its got fuck all to do with HDR. I don't even have a HDR enabled tv.

Does the flickering occur while running in 60Hz mode? What kind of display are you using? -Make sure the firmware on both the console and the display are up to date! (sounds obvious, but a lot of people I've talked to say their firmware not being up to date was the issue!) -If you are running in 120hz mode, try doing a hard reset of the console. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try disabling VRR in settings. If there is no flickering at that point, the problem is not with the cable but most likely a handshaking issue between the console and the display, or simply a faulty cable. If none of this works, your best bet is to try getting a new cable. Make sure it's Ultra High Speed!

The problem is the hdmi cable!

Yes, as I mentioned in the description, the Series S comes with a high-speed HDMI, which doesn’t support 120hz. The Series X comes with an Ultra High-Speed HDMI which is what you need if you want to play at 120hz, using VRR and have flicker-free gameplay.

Fixed mine by turning off VRR, my tv maxed out at 4K 60hz so it was trying to find itself between 50hz and 60hz and getting in a state, Gaming monitor to TV lesson #1 for me 😂
