It’s an Aluminum backplate, it is effectively an additional heatsink. Also the design choices regarding the aesthetic of the card, some people prefer a product that looks like it belongs in an adults rig. Unlike the gaudy rgb puke versions some manufacturers make. Also compared to the other cards you compared the backplate to, it is a functioning heatspreader. Compare the function, notice how much thicker that backplate is compared to the other ones. It isn’t cheap to CNC a block of aluminum. I have been running the XFX cards since the 5700xt for the performance and the clean look. It’s the third XFX card I have bought-5700xt-6800xt-7900xtx. All for the better cooling performance and overall performance those cards have provided. :)
I think the aesthetic works well for a black/silver/gray minimalistic build. Not the prettiest and gamer looking GPU, but i have to appreciate that there’s a gpu thats simple looking when you dont want it to scream “Gamer bro!!! Bing chilling gaming!!!! RGB social credit score up!!!”
@@Top3Entertainment Maybe you should go for a minimalistic evga appearance. Grab a red sharpie and draw a line from the top of your head down to your chin 😅
@@antman9501 it doesn't look too bad. Was just clickbaiting mostly and then just matched people's energy towards me lol. Just don't like that it looks genericish but that's ok
I used to be team green always, I’ve been rocking a 3060 12 gig for years. I recently switched to amd over the year, on a Black Friday deal, a Merc 319 7800 xt for 500 wit the warranty and a game. Been loving it not much rt over just raw performance per dollar.
Not trying to be biased but I would take and over Nvidia for the same reasons. Ray Tracing is nice but It honestly doesn't make too much of a difference compared to her more frames at natural rasterization
Hola buenos días que buen análisis tengo una duda que posición son los displayport 2.1 por qué la página dice que son 2 displayport 2.1 y 1 es 1.4 sabes cuales son los 2.1 ?
What about Power Draw? Heard it's 415w stock at 100% usage..(2450MHz).. 470w OC at 100% usage (2750MHz) It's might be not that hot thanks to it's gigantic dimensions & heatsink.. but 415w stock is kinda a lot
you just can't appreciate the industrial look :) 52 degree under load temps are kind of insane though, how does that stack up against the other cards like the nitro +?
Even with this gigantic heatsink & lenth.. Nitro+ is still #1 GPU for a reason.. And that's it's an exclusiveity.. they work close with AMD cards as usual.. just like EVGA did with Nvidia Still, Merc 310 is still A- card (Red Devil comes in #2 with A) while Nitro+ comes as A+ #1 spot Oh. and am not talking about cooling only.. am also talking about binned chips also
Just bought this card but not getting it until Monday. I have the mesh 2 version of the case you have. I don't like the gpu bracket that it comes with so I'm looking to get another one. What's the measurement from the bottom of the case to the gpu? About 75mm?
I always like Sapphire and Evga. But they always more expensive where I live. Sapphire design sometimes over do it in some past generation. XFX one looks like it's missing a textured look. But I guess it's easier to clean being minimalistic.
Thanks for the video. I appreciate the comparisons. i just ordered my new 7900 xtx Black card yesterday to replace my EVGA 3080ti. within a year and a half i had TWO 3080ti cards go out with bad fans and start over heating. The last one the warranty co refunded my money. SO i decided to jump ship from Nvidia and try an AMD card (it's been about 15-20 years i bet). I'm looking forward to the lower temps too.. the 3080 cards tend to run HOT.
It looks alright. I like the side profile and metal look of it. I think the fan blade design looks kind of off though but its gonna usually be facing downward with the bracket unless ur a psychopath and want to mount sideways to look at the ugly fans lol
im not sure why your results for the merc and gigabyte 7900xtx is all over the place. Did you test on different drivers? i know the boost clock speeds advertised is different but it shouldnt make much difference as they generally boost all the same with amd boost algorithm. With overclock none of the xtx cards boost past 3000mhz without fps penalty really, even with different max power limit by different cards manufacturers.
This Merc definitely has higher power spike and higher GPU clocks than the gigabyte gaming. It's not a huge jump but yes different GPU from different AIBs perform different. Usually no more than 1%
Laser engraving, cut-outs, rgb, etc, all add to the final costs of a product. Give me greater performance at cheaper price, I'm golden. My last 2 cards were both Red Devils. Great cards, but their price now doesn't justify buying one to me, not for an extra $100 anyway.
@@Top3Entertainment That was a quick response lol. Maybe, but the more I save the better, is how I look at it. I rarely look through the window of my case. I actually just ordered this card. Decided to build my daughter a new computer in micro ATX, was gonna give her my old card, 5700 Red Devil, didn't realize I bought it 4 years ago lol. I don't know why your video has more dislikes than likes. XFX fan boys, I guess. I saw in another comment that you moved your AIO. Good, cause having the hoses up top is bad, as the water is not at the top. Good luck with your channel man.
@@Top3Entertainment You know what's funny? I just looked at 2 cards from XFX, the 6950xt and the 6600. Both of their backplates had things done to them, so I take back my statement. Boo!
I used to test it and I was getting the results pretty much on every card no matter what I changed. I could try and test it again to see if it has changed or if I'm cpu bottlenecked
the XFX 6800XT did so well for me I grabbed this card, its looking pretty good, cannot play the free Last of Us for more than 10 secs w/o crashing but that's the games fault. Been smashing to maxed out World of Warcraft Dragonflight though ;p What were your OC/UV settings and did you use Afterburner or Adrenaline?
@@GamersGuard everything should be pretty much equal but it might have the slight edge in performance by like 1%. I haven't tested them personally so Im making a calculated guess
19:47 the 4070 ti performs slightly better than the 3090 TI at Ray Tracing. On this Cyber punk ray tracing benchmark, the 4070 TI is tied with the 7900 XTX so it's barely better in ray tracing than the 3090 Ti
Some people like games like me. Others like that Christmas tree look. Cards used to not gave rgb at all. I miss that. I love my xfx card and thats all that matters. I respect others opinions because they dont interfere with mine. I do think it is funny however that people do want leds/rgb especially when it blows up the price. I paid less than 900. I could get a liquid cooler that works that makes it look better or again just plug in my christmas tree.
Im not gonna take cosmetic ideas from a dude who puts a hennesy bottle in his pc LOL. just say that you haven't grown out of being 16 and thinking drinking alcohol is cool lmao.
If it was actually BLACK. I mean all black it would look amazing. I hate the grey. And i hate the LED light. But this is a beast of a card. So who cares, really =P
No but when buying a expensive card it is important to pick one that you like in performance and aesthetics. All 7900 xtx perform similarly enough to where physical appearance should play a factor
Just had a blast reading through the comments. This content creater fighting and talking like a hurt kid. These are video cards. The style is secondary, but obviously not for you seeing your dress style.
Lol yeah bro only time I get to have fun since this is the only video I have like this so why not. I literally wear the same clothes you were in your profile pic so we're both childish right
using clickbait thumbnails to get views is the norm nowadays but using a clickbait title to tell people the thing they like is ugly :D the dislike bar speaks for itself.
I agree that they could have definitely done a lot more with the back. The 7900 XT black does a lot better in that regard with the Merc on it. Aside from that i like how mature it looks. The lack of RGB isn't a deal breaker. I would personally take that back plate off and paint the sh* out of that metal.
@@Top3Entertainment as they damn well should have. I mean you're paying more for it. Paint it, have cut outs, have RGB, have something. At this point, cheaper Merc, Swift and even some Quick look like they had more effort thrown in. Still, at least the face looks well polished. I say mount it arbitrarily and call it a day. Although, nobody buys a high end card just to pay extra for a riser...
@@Top3Entertainment you were saying it doesn't look good but people that are professionals arent going to be worried about that, the backplatye helps add more surface area and keeps the card more rigid too so idk man, this card also has copper plate modding for the vram modules to better transfer heat, its construction is also very good. Some of us came from a generation when the only thing that mattered was performance vs price and how much wattage it pulled
Who gives AF what it looks like? Not me... You've spent at least 5-6 mins talking about that so I haven't watched your review. Time to rethink your approach and cut down the video time given to aesthetics... if you really have to cover it, no more than 2 mins absolute max. Free advice.
A lot of people give a fuck. That's why I put timestamps for those that don't . Time to rethink how you watch videos and how everyone does it differently
This XFX card is DEFINITELY AN UGLY CARD!!! Holy Smokes!!! You are soooo correct. Screw what people are saying, most of them are idiots. And there's NEVER a reason to take idiots seriously. Ugly is ugly. There's no doubt about it, it's the ugliest card there. The MSI Gaming Trio 7900xtx card is the nicest looking one I've seen, and the Asrock's card also has a decent design.
Whatever he cited; what matters is what the card does, not what the card itself looks like. yes the card is ugly, but if it is the best XTX then I will buy it.
@@Tha-King-Arthur it is an amazing card. At the end of the day price and performance are the most important factor but if all are the same price and all cool the same then that's where looks come into play
