Great all round performer. Used mine now for 11 years in my pickup truck with the Atas 120A Screwdriver antenna. Covers all bands.. perfect VSWR. Beware of the dreaded zebra stripes appearing on the display screen.. The OEM replacement parts are like hens teeth.. Been waiting 6 months now for a new display from Yaesu Japan..
Great radio I have the ldg auto tuner and a atas 120a antenna for going portable. There’s a diagram on the bottom of the rig shows what the slots are for on the rear of the rig. Thanks for the vlog
Hello mate i got one off ebay boxed for 300.00 and the then got the filters and txo i was told it was deaf all seemed to work,but i changed the toko filters out anyway jeff
The real question is current draw. If the 857D draws a bunch of current (on receive) then it means you can't use it as long in the field as the 817/818

I thought the uk version of this radio only put out 50w? i noticed 2 diff types of connection in the back for uhf/vhf and hf antenna connection, why are they different looks like a scratch on the lcd sreen. does the radio do average power or is it like the ft991a when you put it at 50w it shows 50w.
