In this video, I unbox and install a new Yakima FrontLoader wheel-on roof-mounted bike rack. I already own two Yakima HighSpeed racks but needed a third rack for my daughters bike. Yakima Racks are the perfect roof top accessory for transporting a bicycle/s on your Tesla Roof Rack! I mount my wife's 27.5" mountain bike, my 700c Road / Gravel / Cyclocross bike, and my daughter 20" mountain bike. I also show you how to add a SKS lock core for security.

I've had the Frontloader on my Model 3 for about a year and do not recommend this rack for transporting Mtn Bikes. First issue, the Frontloader does not securely fit/clamp onto the slightly oval/rounded factory Tesla roof crossbars. It may appear to clamp snugly but in the real world once you begin driving the vibration from any little bumps in the road is enough to cause front end of the Frontloader to come slightly loose and so what happens is the Frontloader shifts slightly sideways along the front crossbar. Solution is to crank the front twist mechanism as tight as you can, but even then you need to monitor for the rack shifting on the crossbars. Second issue, on all but the smoothest of roads, the Mtn Bike will sway in the Frontloader because there is just too much play in the rack. I think one of the issues is the Tesla factory crossbars are positioned too closely together. I've driven on bumpy gravel roads and literally had to put one hand out the window to hold the Frontloader in place while I'm driving, and even then the bike/rack was severely rocking/swaying as we drove over any little bumps in the road. So probably the Frontloader would be good for a

Thanks for watching and sharing your opinion on the Frontloader! I personally prefer the HighSpeed, which I have two of and have only used the Frontloader for my daughter's 20" MTB. I have not experienced the rack slipping/loosening that you have but can understand that to be possible with a 40 lb MTB like you stated.

You should check out SeaSucker Hogg spare tire wheel holder. I personally don’t have experience with these but it seemed to be one of the best solutions for not having to put tires in the trunk. I have two fork mounts as well. If I buy them I will make a video.

Thanks for watching! I had a Seasucker and Hogg before I got my Yakimas. I like the idea of the Hogg but the one I had was for QR skewers (have Thruaxles) and there were too many extra steps to attach the wheel like spinning on the Hogg and attaching the Velcro that keeps the wheel from spinning. Just settled on putting the wheels in the trunk.

Great video! With regards to the front loader, any issues with the bikes tilting outwards due to the curve of the racks? I just installed mine today and noticed the tilt. Thanks

Hi Shaun, I really enjoyed your video! How does the range drop compare between the Yakima Frontloder and HighSpeed bike racks for the Model 3?

Thanks for watching! I haven't tested them separately but my educated guess would be more range drop with FrontLoader because with both wheels on a bike, the bike sits higher on the roof and causes more drag. When I don't have to carry three bikes, my two HighSpeeds are my go-to setup.

Also here is a short video I did with two bikes in HighSpeed racks mounted to my Model 3. About 10% range loss. ru-vid.comAZKjeKHq4kQ?si=OXXmUE2NoZdgQXcO
