Depends where you are located. In Louisiana - a warm place - there was never an issue with excess heat - even when standing still - but the radiator fan turns on much more than before. Extra venting holes will without doubt be beneficial in order to lower the engine temperature.
@@orbsurfer8195 Thanks. Appreciate that. Finally had to settle for that skid plate. Had planned on B&B but the only ones in stock were on the other side of the pond. I'll probably drill some holes. Dont want the fan running all the time. Trying to round it up for the build. See you on the TAT.
Yes. If needed due to high engine temperature, I am planning on doing some perforations along the exhaust down pipes. Will monitor the temperature gauge on the display, and try to listen to radiator fan cycling on more than before when the bike is standing still. Checking the flow from the rear of the radiator and the electric fan, a large part of the airflow moves past the exhaust pipes when the RallyeForm Skid Plate is fitted, so in theory :-) a build up of heat should not be an issue. Totally agree on the bolts! The fastening/bolts issue was even bigger when I installed the Touratech Upper Crash Bars for the Ténéré 700! The sad part with Touratech is that the issues are not cost related, just a "Good Enough" attitude throughout the whole company... Why Touratech?
@@orbsurfer8195 hows the skid plate doing? i like this design looks good, im planning to fit this one on my t7 but my concern is how was the engine cooling while this skid plate is fitted?
@@rtcivic While riding slowly; below roughly 30 mph - 50 km/h, the engine gets warmer than before, but the radiator fan turns on and keeps the temperature in safe operating range. At speeds above roughly 30 mph - 50 km/h, no problems. Later on, I will probably drill some air vents holes along the exhaust pipes to help alleviate this.
@@rtcivic No, but the side of the skid plate covers a large part of the two plastic pipes leading to the water pump, and this feature was one of the reasons I bought this skid plate.
Website says it is. The expedition is not. Wont work with euro 5 exhaust! Will let you know how much trouble after the build. Hunter gatherer mode for another week.
All bike parts are 1000 percent markup. At least touratech has a competent website. The others have their head in their ass when youre looking for items. Ask for fuel tank and get to look at tank bags. Hate them all!
