Cornell's Yanni Diakomihalis defeated Penn State's Shayne Van Ness during the 149 lb Semifinal at the 2023 Division I Men’s Wrestling Championship. Subscribe to the NCAA Championship RU-vid channel: ru-vid.com...
It’s totally PSU style to have a 12 seed come in and push a guy like Yianni almost to the end. Those guys are always game. They come in to NCAA’s in peak shape and on a mission. Good match
@@HoRRiiBLe1313 where did you hear he was injured this season? He didnt miss any matches this year as far as i know.. sounds more like he leveled up at NCAAs.. not something uncommon for Psu guys..
Those 2 take down attempts in the first per by Vaness were relentless Yianni somehow escapes the first one and time runs out in the second but gives Vaness enough scrap to eat up the clock. WOW!!! Then he comes back w that takedown in the 3rd at the end shot attempt mis direction they come back up taps head reshot somehow stays in the crotch readjust lifts Vaness gets the takedown then turns him to his back reverses half and terks for 4 swipes. Holy SCHNIKES!!!
fr his freshman yr vs heil eirman and meredith then the next year vs eirman again and mckenna last year seemed like the only year he rly cruised to a title
During mid season i predicted top 3 finishes from the frosh @149 thru 65. Al few folks said no way. Like why no way? It's PSU & it's what they do. Facundo is the only one who didn't place top 3.
Y’all hear it at the end 10:09? Yianni walking off says “Fuck I almost blew that.” Coach Grey replied, “Yea ya did!” Blahaha 😝 Shane wrestled beautifully and will be another PSU 2xer. Book it! 🙏🏼
Great match but costly mistake. Why did he let the ankle go after he was awarded the 2pts for the takedown and had 1:30 left in the 3rd.. I always go for the underdog
Yanni-“Fuck I almost blew that.” Mike Grey-“Yeah ya did.” 🤣🤣🤣 Yanni escapes two insane takedown attempts by Vaness then gets the escape in the 3rd after being taken down gets a takedown and 4 swipes. Holy crap that was insane!
I figured this was happening. I guess the best to lose to in a tournament where you've been upsetting and coming back against guys would be the one and only possible 4x champ in Yianni. I still liked Van Ness' chances there until the very end and he just had nothing left there. Now he's just gotta get refocused for tomorrow morning. That's it. Go and get out after it with some possible bonus point wins and solidify a 3rd/5th place match. For his first, and Beau Bartlett's second, tournament it's a really great showing for both and neither have anything to be feeling sorry about. Beau got placed in a terrible spot and still made the semis, same with Van Ness. They both will do better next season, be placed higher seeds, and will both be NCAA champs when it's all said and done. I feel Bartlett slowed down there at the end of his match, but he still got deep on a few shots he just couldn't finish. He'll be gunning for a title next year and a top 5 finish this season. Now Van Ness just needs to put on more muscle and more strength training this off-season, maybe grab Zain Retherford and get him to wrestle Shayne to get him stronger and better.
@@kidsdostuff6655 Nah. He was definitely in control there. Shayne had a couple solid looks, but nothing was really connecting because Yianni's defense is nearly unstoppable.
shayne should’ve won this match is was so annoying watching yianni stall almost an entire match and is shayne got those stall calls he would’ve won so yianni shoving him at the end like that is ridiculous and he’s getting karma now in the fact that he lost to nick lee and didn’t even make a world team! no class and lucky the officials favor him😠
i wanna clean the mats at break, and bring a fake gold tooth with me. Act like i found a puddle of blood plant the tooth look around all crazy. Pick it up, and bite it. Smile, and put it in my pocket and clean up with weird smile on my face.
There isn't much difference between. 23 and a 19 year old. He'll these days freshman are coming in and knocking off 7 year seniors. It's actually a disadvantage to be wrestling folkstyle at 27.
would love to know what he said. We need a johnboy media breakdown. Some extracurricular from yianni at the end though. Kind of nice to see PSU coaches defend their guys like that. Shows they’re human.
