Many thanks for putting us on to the Ring charger RMS10, just to make you aware that if they buy it from Alfords in their own packaged box,the coiled lead is only 60cm long and not the 1metre length that you get when you buy the same Ring product through e bay! The 60cm is too short for my Yaris Hybrid ! Best wishes all Kevin

Excellent vid. I see a lot of concerns from members about this issue and this goes some way to allay fears. I’ve just ordered one off of Amazon but this one has a digital view of the voltage. Tks again.

How about Toyota just building a car that can be used without the 12 volt battery going flat?!!!

It’s a every manufacturer’s problem Parking up any modern vehicle with all the alarms, immobilisation systems,, keyless entry systems and being able to connect to a car anywhere in the world while it’s parked via an app on a smartphone, means systems never power down and the vehicle is always constantly using charge from the 12 volt battery It’s not just a Toyota problem it’s an ongoing issue that motorcyclists have been aware of for years Park your bike for a few weeks, nice day want a ride, flat battery That’s why we use intelligent battery maintenance charges See video in play list on trickle charge set up for the Yaris hybrid

@@paul_nwsxs When you listen to the issues the owners of Yaris cross cars have these are not cars that have been left for long periods unused. These are cars that are used regularly but still suffer flat batteries. Toyota dealers solution is to plug in a portable solar panel to keep the battery topped up. One wonders whether the continual stop starting of the petrol engine during normal driving is to blame. Either way it puts me off buying one.

Yet I never had this issue in 63,000 miles with my 2019 mk 3 Yaris. It never missed a beat, never even had to replace a light bulb let alone anything else! Took delivery of this 2022 Yaris Design on Saturday afternoon, went to go out at 5.00 and the battery was dead, all I'd done was sit in the car with the engine off getting used to the controls. The salesman came out and jump started the thing with his gizmo. It will be used for decent journeys every day but now my big worry is this.. next month its going to sit in a freezing car park at Heathrow for three weeks, when I get back very late at night is it going to start? Please give me some advice Paul. I'm absolutely loving all of your videos BTW.

Sorry it’s a bit long. Quite recently, I came across the same problem with the 12V being discharged, perhaps on account of not enough running time to maintain it properly. It seems to be a common problem with AA staff, in Toyota hybrids. Toyota do actually explain what to do in the Owners Manual (page No 407 on sheet 410 in mine, Owners Manual_Europe_M52M10_en ). They are evidently aware of the risk, and these cars with remote battery positions, under the back seat, have the “Exclusive jump starting terminal” with a red cover clip inside the fuse box on the LH side under the bonnet. It had to be used at my place the other day, after which it was used for a run for an hour or two. Any proper jump start gadget with suitable cables (they show a normal 12V battery in the manual) can be used. In the past, on an older Yaris, I used the same connecting point, with a proper battery charging device made by Black & Decker about 17 years ago. Similar products available now no doubt, but it does do a 3 stage process to charge it up to maximum then shuts off automatically. This should only be used with the built in power switched off, i.e. with the high voltage dc battery pack isolated while running it. The reason why I had that gadget in the first place was that I had suffered a flat battery on another car, which was a Honda Ctdi (a 2.2l diesel with a chunky 12V battery - 70 Ah). Which brings me to the known cause of the fault. I was one of many - in fact thousands, that had the problem. It was caused by a software error in one of the components made by Bosch GmbH, which was sorted out by them issuing a firmware upgrade which was installed by dealers under warranty. No doubt there were some transactions between dealers, Honda, and Bosch over that! Ironic given the Bosch GmbH were the developers of the CANBUS system between 1983- 88, which was involved in faults of that kind. I became aware of the background detail, because I know someone who worked in the Honda factory at the time. The nature of the CANBUS system is that it is reliant on the proper operation of each unit connected to it, so that they don’t clash with each other and create faults that can prevent one or another from shutting down properly (in addition to other built in faults that prevent something from shutting down). Ideally, a lot of things can be connected to a 2 core one. If anyone wants more detail on all that, look up the term mentioned here. No doubt there are potential risks with third party items connected to it, either by the manufacturer, or anyone else using another device that fails in a way that it is always on load on the 12V supply. Of course, there are items that are always live, so there is a continuous demand on the low voltage side in modern cars.

My local garage tells me that Toyota are bringing out a better battery at the end of March and we will all get an upgrade.

I’ve been using Toyota hybrids since 2006 and maybe I’m lucky as I’ve never experienced any issues with my 12 volt battery Or it’s probably that I use my cars every single day of the week and do 20000 miles + every year I will ask my dealer what is happening next time I’m there As I need to go there to order a replacement car for my partner after she had her 5 months old Yaris destroyed by a bus earlier this month

Nice gadget! Last week I had to abandon my Yaris away from home after breaking my arm. 6 days later a friend collected it and of course 12v was flat. (I hoped it would still have life after only 6 days as I’ve gone 4-5 days in the past with no issue in my 2 years of ownership.) Friend got it back to me but I’ll be unable to drive for a few weeks. If I switch on car once every 2-3 days and run a cycle of EV followed by a cycle of petrol, do you think that’s likely to be sufficient to keep battery alive without driving the car?

Starting it every few days and letting it run for an hour would be a good idea , that,s how we treated my dads car over covid due to dad and mum being to scared to leave the house i was driving after my surgery on my wrist the same night of the surgery ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XnvElKuAW6w.htmlsi=HBeg8jGpCBqc2BKq here is the video where i explain the history on my wrist injury good luck with your recovery

@@paul_nwsxs Thanks Paul, remember your vid and just re-watched. Very helpful. We’ve got same cast but you’ve got a lot going on around the wrist and you’ve endured a lot of pain. I broke ulna and radius falling on Wyre estuary near Fleetwood. Blackpool surgeons did a great job with metal plates on each bone so we’ll see how it goes! Good thing I’ve got a CVT and electronic hand break!
