Yeah, nearly all generator engines have a tapered shaft. The generator is press fit on because there is no need for timing and such. Having a buddy with a machine lathe is always a huge bonus. Great video guys, I always look forward to them.
I fell out of my seat when I saw you guys working on one. I absolutely love Robin Subaru engines I absolutely love them. If you have any questions about the engine I'm the guy to help you. I live and sleep on these suckers. The engineering they put into the engine just blows my mind. It is literally a small boxer engine
@@ryanmilflores329 remove the governor Jetta carburetor and put a header on it. That's all you really need for those engines they're pretty powerful and heavy-duty out of box
This is why you guys are now my fav go-kart/minibike channel, you guys are more relatable to the rest of us utilizing generators, old Briggs etc, instead of NOTHING BUT predators!
i dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know a method to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly lost my login password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me!
@Derek Titus i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Love those old flat belt lathes. I learned to run a lathe on a '40s South Bend 12 back in high school shop. I like my new Grizzly 11" but something about that clackity old iron just warms the heart.
I have a couple of those Subaru engines on presure washers hanging around. One has fuel injection on it stock. I am waiting for a cool project like that yerf dog for them.
I like the fact that you guys have a buddy with a lathe to very nicely turn down the crank, yet no mill to put a keyway in the crank... how ever ike does have a very steady hand as if i would have done that it would have gone strait in the garbage
Dang! A full one minute, unskipable ad in the middle of your video? You guys are big time! Great vid tho! PS - John; "misunderestimated" haha, good one.
You guys over thonk it!! When I put my 389cc generator engine on my mini bike I had the same problem with the size of the shaft we just fired it up and ternd it down with the hand grinder littile at a Time till we got it down to size.
I really dig your RU-vid channel. I have a question about one of your builds....on the Subaru ohc motor, when you removed the governor, did you have to install springs like you do when removing the governor on the predator motors? I didn't see that in the video
"There's a critter in there" - a House Centipede. When you meet them and it's not on your terms, that's a big "nope nope nope nope" - they're fast and creepy-crawly.
I had the same issue with the tapered shaft. clamp the engine to the deck of my lathe started it machined it using its own power. that way no disassembly required.
oh, and i have a ex17 6.5hp robin on my manco cart...starts every time, i mean, every time, first pull...just added torque converter, doing solid axle conversion, should be fun...havent found anywhere but aussiesports across the ocean to get racing parts, hope you have better luck/resources than i
Love the build and I must say that watching a "pro" like Ike buy an OHV engine that said so on the cover without knowing the hp or that it was OHV makes me feel better for all the times I overlooked something before buying.
A much easier way to adapt a tapered shaft engine off a generator... is from the other end. Take the generator rotor and remove all the windings. Rotor can then be turned down to adopt a larger clutch... or even use a snowmobile clutch, which are also tapered. But I guess not many snowmobile parts in your area.
I was able to pick up a yerf dog 3205 with a 212cc predator engine, modded suspension, light bars, new wheel hubs so you can fit standard wheels and a 5 gallon gas tank for $400 down here in Florida.
One lobe on the cam? One lobe runs 2 valves? WoW! I've been wrenching my whole life and that mystifies me! LOL! I've gotta give the guy on the lathe credit too, that isn't easy on that old of a machine
After you run off the starting fluid for a little bit it'll start sucking gas out of the tank again since I assume it had a clogged fuel line and that's why it wasn't running at first. The vacuum dislodges whatever is clogging the line and then it's good to go.
FINALLY! An engine other than a Predator motor. It just seems like every project they have uses predators. Expand you pallet! There's Briggs, Kohler, Honda, Subaru, Tecumseh, and much more.
Turn that shaft down the hard way. I've done them with nothing more than a good file. Start it up, apply a touch of lube and put the file to it lubing occasionally to help the file cut a bit easier and quicker. ;)
I actually have a go kart an when I bought it it had a 5hp robin subaru on it. It’s pretty much stock except I straight piped it but it’s very reliable, I’ve really beaten it up an it’s still going strong. I just wish it was like the predators where it had performance parts I could buy.
You guys need to go to a Nissan dealership and ask for their gray silicone at the parts department. Solid in 20 mins, ridiculously strong and heat resistant. Best silicone you'll ever use.
pico67ss yes but this was cheap and faster than waiting for some shit to ship from a random seller, We wouldn't have this video for another month if that was the case, Fuck that it'll be fine, We don't need an adapter. We'll turn this bitch down. And that's the cars and cameras way, Thought you'd have know that by now watching these guys the make shit work.
@@CarsandCameras any aftermarket billet flywheel or billet rods bro? Help me out! I made a mud motor out of mine! Stage 1 with no governor and I don't want to blow it up!
The gy6 150cc is 9hp stock an is governed at like 8700rpm an is ohc with upgrade able cams an can get a race cdi that's ungovernerd an doesn't valve float till 10k+
hey guys dont know if youve ever used a straight air die grinder and 1/4 inch carbide cutting bits. they come in a variety of sizes. die grinder u can get cheap at harbor freight and bits you can get cheap on ebay. this tool would have been useful when you did the drilling part on the crankshaft and i know personally after discovering this tool i dont know how i ever lived without it. it will come in handy a lot.
