A sit-down interview with Tengai Makyou/Far East of Eden artist and character designer Yoshiteru "Torajirou" Tsujino that took place in Tokyo on January 3rd, 2022. This particular interview is focused around Tengai Makyou ZIRIA for an upcoming video on that game. He talks about how the first game came to be, shares some memories, describes some of the heroes and villains in the games, and more.
Thank you so much to Mr. Tsujino for giving the the time and opportunity to conduct this interview...and for helping craft the wonderful world of Jipang!

Thank you to "Benten-sama," who helped me refine my Japanese subtitles so I don't come across as a complete moron (which I am). You know who you are.
And a final thanks also goes out to John for his role in getting me to talk about Tengai Makyou, and for encouraging me to reach out to Mr. Tsujino.

Part 1 of the Tengai Makyou Retrospective is out NOW: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sgS-yJEPaQk.html It's all about the first game, ZIRIA, and includes snippets of this interview and a look at the context, development process, trials and tribulations and legacy of the game. I hope you'll check it out and enjoy--once again, thank you to Mr. Tsujino for his gracious help in making the video, and more importantly the Far East of Eden games, a reality.

Didn't know about this interview... What a great piece for preservation. Also, the guy seems really nice. It's so exciting to me that we've come to a moment in history when most of our hero programmers, producers and musicians are still around and want to share their invaluable perspective. Thanks a lot for such a nice job.

This was a treat, thank you for putting this together. Also, why is art styles that are older than 15 years are seen as unwanted? I love his designs and the look of the characters. I more want to play these games for that reason. My dream would get something that Arc System Works with the 3d but is pressed into 2d. I'm excited for Live a Live but wish we could get older games to look more like the art it was based on. Wish I had his work in my hands! I hope we get an official translation here in the west. Thank you to Jonny for pushing this subject and getting me on this channel. Thank you again for this amazing channel and all your hard work!
@ImportGamingFTW
@ImportGamingFTW 2 года назад
Thank you for watching. I agree about the art style thing...but I suppose it's like every other industry these days, almost everything looks the same and is kind of boring, at least in my opinion. Perhaps it's just the result of demographic marketing being perfected, who knows. I much prefer the variety and harder, less clean look in my game art (Triangle Strategy comes to mind as a recent example).

That's right--I'm hoping this video and some upcoming Tengai Makyou videos I have planned will create even just *a little bit* of buzz for people to start harassing...ahem, petitioning Konami for a proper revival, in any form, but preferably as a new game like Mr. Tsujino mentioned. Thanks for watching, Pete!

How that interview turned out to happen is amazing! I wish I could play those games in English, it seems that very few games got English translations, only Oriental Blue for GBA and Tengai Makyou Zero for the SNES, which I think I'm going to try soon. I have known Kabuki Klash for the Arcade/Neo Geo since school and I didn't know there was a whole RPG series behind it.

Watched it in one sitting! I really hope these series get the recognition it deserves and somehow make it to the west. A few years ago I thought about creating a petition page for all the rpgs entries to be localized. But seeing how Konami is neglecting its old franchises, I decided it'd probably be a waste of time and effort.

@ImportGamingFTW
@ImportGamingFTW 2 года назад
Much appreciated, thank you for taking the time to watch it. I've been wanting to do some kind of petition as well, try to generate buzz/interest, but I'm afraid I don't hold enough sway to do anything that would gain traction. I don't think it's a complete waste of time trying to put pressure on Konami on reviving franchises, there are people who work there who want to explore and bring back the old IPs, including a project director Mr. Tsujino introduced me to before we had our interview.

Thanks, we'll see--but I think what's next might be another interview with Mr. Tsujino focusing more on Tengai II and Kabukiden. Awesome interview. I've always been super interested in the series since I discovered the Kabuki Klash game was a spin off of the main games.
