Yeah, I must admit I liked the brightness of the Neon Strings (no pun intended).

I thought the neons sounded the best as well, which is not what I was expecting.

DR makes a damn good string. Been using either pure blues or hi beams for decades now.

Can vouch for the coated bass strings, the coating keeps the oils and junk out of the windings and while they are not as zippy sounding to start as uncoated strings, they start out a lit zippier than one expects, and stay fresh sounding longer.

I have a all black (literally all black.. as in hardware fingerboard headstock body pickups pickgguard whammy bar) with slide red details strat and I'm wondering if the gold strings would look good on it zhat

Personally i play the optima gold strings. They sound absolutely incredible on my Strat but also very dynamic on acoustic guitar. A lot better than the regular Ernie Ball super slinkys i used before. The only problem is that the gold finish is not very durable espescially on the higher not wound strings.

Boomers high E never breaks.

I thought the gold strings sounded dead. Didn't like them at all. Would be curious to hear them on an acoustic though to see if it made a difference, or even a hollow body electric.

I thought the same with the Boomers. Very full and clear sounding. Absolutely loved them and this video is going to make me give them a try again.

I used to use these boomers over a decade ago, they are pretty damn good. I use d'addario now, but I've switched to elixir for acoustics.

I used to play Elixirs, but my G kept breaking. The shop keeper put me on to Cleartones. They hold up better, and have a different treatment that's still corrosion resistant.

Elixirs are you the best decision a guitarist can make

But they are not that great if you have ground issues

I still have a set of Elixers going on 20 years old on my Jazz Bass... they were like $40 back then, I'm scared to find out what they cost now.

I agree. I was really surprised by the Neons... I'm going to put them on my niece's guitar (I built for her) because COLORS!!!

DR makes good strings across their lineup. Red Devils and Black Beauties sound just like the neons - best coated strings I've ever tried. Sunbeams are great too, not coated and not long life but very sweet while they last.

@@Orschd Possibly because they just don't fit the theme/title of the video, at all. If you've only ever tried one set of guitar strings, it was probably D'addario. They're the string everyone has heard already. And they tend to have a reputation for bland reliability. So they would be the polar opposite of where he was going with this as a brand (though perhaps there is one particular oddball string that would surprise us?)

I got the neon strings for the guitar and bass for my son and husband so when they play Rocksmith, their instruments match up to the one on screen better. It does help when you can think red string instead of low E string, etc.

This is working well in half a year my wife has learned more guitar than she has in 10 years with me, by using these strings and rocksmith. I never took lessons so i don’t know how to teach her. The game was the trick

Not on the low end, zero bass or resonance. I think a mix of 7-56 would be nice. Or maybe 8-56 because i thought the 7s sounded a bit too twangy.

Lighter gauge strings always detune when you bend it's neighboring strings. While you'd think this would follow a ratio and heavier strings would detune also due to the effort required to bend the intended string, it's not the case.

lol most people I know only ever bought 7's once and never again! they snap too easily, and kink with the slightest pressure! in my day they were called extra slinky, maybe Ernie Ball thought changing the name to Zippy Slinky would improve sales? back then I think Roto-sound used to make a set called extra ultra lights that were also 7's, personally I would not go any heavier than 11's but it's the individual players sound requirements and finger strength/stamina that will dictate in the end.

@@station2station544 Are you sure you weren't using a floating trem or something? Because it doesn't make sense otherwise. I've briefly played with 7's before and don't recall this ever being an issue.

@@genghissu1185 I've been using Dunlop's Dunlop Reverend Willy 07-38 for a couple of years, my first set lasted months, string broke under my finger tip, against the fret, while in a vibrato.

I used to use those back in my band days. We tuned down to c though so it helped stability

Put them on a Tele, LP, or PRS with a stop tail or Wrap around bridge or strat with a fixed Bridge, I don't use them with a tremolo system for that very reason but damn makes easy bending and great for beginners to loosen up on that death grip on chords and makes bar chords easier and lets them build bending strength up over time, so you can practice longer without it taking a toll on the fingers as much. Its also great for experienced players on an experimentation or learning guitar for new songs as it allows to learn the stuff from more complex guitarists without killing the fingers as much. People overlook the utility on 7's

@@nocturnal101ravenous6 Also good for beginners because they're so easy to bend out of pitch it makes you pay better attention your what you're doing on the fretboard.

Billy gibbons says that 7 gauge strings will not break. He has a video demonstrating how thicker strings break faster. I like 9's personally. I rarely have ever had a broken string, but i try to keep them changed as much as i can.

@@geraldhoffpauir5048 Billy gibbons also made everyone believe that B.B. King played .008 gauge strings when he actually used a custom set of 10-54. It feels like most of the things he says about strings are just a fad to make Dunlop Rev Willy's sell better.

Paradigms sounded DEAD.

I've never had a problem with the Paradigms sounding dead. I also pretty much exclusively play guitars equipped with higher output humbuckers or active humbuckers.

@@zakkmylde1712 i believe they were meant for higher output. i had them on a strat at some point and i remember i went back to slinkys in about a month. but, hey, if they work for you, that's awesome ;)

yeah, I agree. I understand that they're hard to play on, but I tend to go with heavier strings because I'm totally with you on them sounding a fair bit sweeter.

You have a good ear. I have been using Fender strings for decades but may try out some GHSs next time for that very reason.

They sound the fullest but that's not always what I want, the Gold sounds mellow and silky I love that, he didn't try chromes or cobalt or titanium, (chromes are my favorite way more silky and mellow than the other two, kinda like gold compared to steel) though or flatwound vs roundwound, he needs to do another video bros

They sound dull, not worth the looks

@@FrankFurther I used them on bass for awhile, and dull is a proper adjective for them. Not even the kind of dull that you get with flatwounds, but something different. They also feel kind of.... sticky? Not the same kind of coating on elixir strings that's for certain.

@@FrankFurther my wife uses them on a squier for rocksmith. Its basically a step above the guitar hero controller, she doesnt exactly care about tone. Shes just trying to learn. For that reason. They are nice. But that squier never goes into an amp. Tone doesnt matter one bit for her

It might also help if it included a string people have actually tried before, such as a DAddario 9's or 10's or anything familiar. Ya need a known reference point to start from. EB 7 gage super slinkies is just not that place

Jimmy pge used to use 7's back in the day. But they had a trick, they changed the high E for a thicker string to solve the problem you described.

They've changed my entire life. I just wish they packed an extra 7 gauge in. I usually get a custom pack of 7 gauge only from Stringjoy, get a little extra life out of those bad boys. I thought these sounded best as well. Really brings out that treble

That's funny. I personally thought the neon sounded dull and lifeless. I thought the Paradigm sound in the best. The 7s were two brash and buzzy, but that might be due to the need for a proper setup when changing between these extreme gauges.

I hammer the shit out of my strings and couldn't break a set of paradigms while trying to break them without full-blown intentionally cutting them. Also if your strings are rusting that fast you should really be using at least a cloth to wipe them down after playing. I can stretch a set of regular strings for 5 or 6 months if I absolutely have to because I clean them after playing and keep them as climate controlled as possible. But as for the guarantee of 90 days that's about as long as you should have a set on a guitar with regular play without changing them. I keep the Paradigms on the guitars I don't play that often (provided they have SS frets) and they get changed every 6 months or sometimes longer depending on the state of the strings.

@@zakkmylde1712 I used to live in Canada where a set of strings could last me a couple of months. Now I live in Asia where the humidity is over 80% most of the times, and what lasted me 2 months back then only last 2 weeks now. And yes I wipe my strings too ;) It is also true that I had that set of Paradigms on my guitar for that long kinda as an experiment to see how long it could actually last. I generally do change strings more often for my main guitars. Just saying that, Paradigms still do break, but it should last long enough for most people.

Me too. Tho I haven’t tried gold or some of these other types. It took me a long time to find the NYXL and I love them. They have a long life, great sound, great feel.
